This paper examines land development using an integrated approach that combines residential decisions about choices of community in the Southern Appalachian region with the application of the GIS (Geographical Information System). The empirical model infers a distinctive heterogeneity in the characteristics of community choices. Synthesis and Micellar Characterization of CBABC Type PLGA-PEO-PPO-PEO-PLGA Pentablock Copolymers
Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) were grafted to both ends of Pluronic (R) F68 ((EO)(75)(PO)(30)(EO)(75)) triblock copolymer to produce poly {(lactic acid)(m)-co-(glycolic acid)(n)}-b-poly(ethylene oxide)(75)-b-poly(propylene oxide)(30)-b-poly(ethylene oxide)(75)-b-poly{(lactic acid)(m)-co-(glycolic acid)(n)} (PLGA-F68-PLGA) pentablock copolymers. Molecular weights of PLGA blocks were controlled and five kinds of pentablock copolymers with different PLGA block lengths were synthesized using in-situ ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide and glycolide with tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate (Sn(Oct)(2)) catalyst. PLGA-F68-PLGA pentablock copolymers were characterized by H-1- and C-13-NMR, GPC, and TGA. The numbers (2m, 2n) of repeating units for lactic acid and glycolic acid inside PLGA segments were obtained as (48, 17), (90, 23), (125, 40), (180, 59), and (246, 64), with H-1-NMR measurement. From NMR data, the resultant molecular weights were determined in the range of 12,700-29,700, which were similar to those obtained from GPC. Polydispersity index was increased in the range of 1.32-1.91 as the content of PLGA blocks increased. TG and DTG thermograms showed discrete degradation traces for PLGA and F68 blocks, which indicate the weight fractions of PLGA blocks in pentablock copolymers can be calculated by TO profile and it is possible to remove PLGA block selectively. Hydrodynamic radius and radius of gyration of pentablock copolymer micelle were obtained in the range of 46-68 nm and 31-49 nm, respectively, in very dilute (i.e. 0.005 wt %) aqueous solution of THF:H2O = 10:90 by volume at 25 degrees C.X1121Ysciescopu
Synthesis of horizontally aligned ZnO nanowires localized at terrace edges and application for high sensitivity gas sensor
We developed step edge decoration method for the fabrication of semiconductor ZnO nanodots and nanowires using pulsed laser deposition. We synthesized high quality ZnO nanowires with the small diameter of about 20 nm and the uniform interval of about 80 nm between each nanowire, which has a simple structure for the formation of contact electrodes. The ZnO nanowire-based sensor was prepared only with the simple process of a gold electrode formation. The ZnO nanowire-based sensor exhibited the high surface-to-volume ratio of 58.6 mu m(-1) and the significantly high sensitivity of about 10 even for the low ethanol concentration of 0.2 ppm.open115860sciescopu

Probing Z' gauge boson with the spin configuration of top quark pair production at future linear colliders
We explore the effects of extra neutral gauge boson involved in the
supersymmetric E6 model on the spin configuration of the top quark pair
produced at the polarized e- e+ collider. Generic mixing terms are considered
including kinetic mixing terms as well as mass mixing. In the off-diagonal spin
basis of the standard model, we show that the cross sections for the suppressed
spin configurations can be enhanced with the effects of the Z' boson through
the modification of the spin configuration of produced top quark pair enough to
be measured in the Linear Colliders, which provides the way to observe the
effects of Z' boson and discriminate the pattern of gauge group decomposition.
It is pointed out that the kinetic mixing may dilute the effects of mass mixing

Exploiting Inter- and Intra-Memory Asymmetries for Data Mapping in Hybrid Tiered-Memories
Modern computing systems are embracing hybrid memory comprising of DRAM and
non-volatile memory (NVM) to combine the best properties of both memory
technologies, achieving low latency, high reliability, and high density. A
prominent characteristic of DRAM-NVM hybrid memory is that it has NVM access
latency much higher than DRAM access latency. We call this inter-memory
asymmetry. We observe that parasitic components on a long bitline are a major
source of high latency in both DRAM and NVM, and a significant factor
contributing to high-voltage operations in NVM, which impact their reliability.
We propose an architectural change, where each long bitline in DRAM and NVM is
split into two segments by an isolation transistor. One segment can be accessed
with lower latency and operating voltage than the other. By introducing tiers,
we enable non-uniform accesses within each memory type (which we call
intra-memory asymmetry), leading to performance and reliability trade-offs in
DRAM-NVM hybrid memory. We extend existing NVM-DRAM OS in three ways. First, we
exploit both inter- and intra-memory asymmetries to allocate and migrate memory
pages between the tiers in DRAM and NVM. Second, we improve the OS's page
allocation decisions by predicting the access intensity of a newly-referenced
memory page in a program and placing it to a matching tier during its initial
allocation. This minimizes page migrations during program execution, lowering
the performance overhead. Third, we propose a solution to migrate pages between
the tiers of the same memory without transferring data over the memory channel,
minimizing channel occupancy and improving performance. Our overall approach,
which we call MNEME, to enable and exploit asymmetries in DRAM-NVM hybrid
tiered memory improves both performance and reliability for both single-core

Expression analysis and functional characterization of the monosaccharide transporters, OsTMTs, involving vacuolar sugar transport in rice (Oryza sativa)
In Arabidopsis, the compartmentation of sugars into vacuoles is known to be facilitated by sugar transporters. However, vacuolar sugar transporters have not been studied in detail in other plant species. To characterize the rice (Oryza sativa) tonoplast monosaccharide transporters, OsTMT1 and OsTMT2, we analysed their subcellular localization using green fluorescent protein (GFP) and expression patterns using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), performed histochemical beta-glucuronidase (GUS) assay and in situ hybridization analysis, and assessed sugar transport ability using isolated vacuoles. Expression of OsTMT-GFP fusion protein in rice and Arabidopsis revealed that the OsTMTs localize at the tonoplast. Analyses of OsTMT promoter-GUS transgenic rice indicated that OsTMT1 and OsTMT2 are highly expressed in bundle sheath cells, and in vascular parenchyma and companion cells in leaves, respectively. Both genes were found to be preferentially expressed in the vascular tissues of roots, the palea/lemma of spikelets, and in the main vascular tissues and nucellar projections on the dorsal side of the seed coats. Glucose uptake studies using vacuoles isolated from transgenic mutant Arabidopsis (tmt1-2-3) expressing OsTMT1 demonstrated that OsTMTs are capable of transporting glucose into vacuoles. Comparison of the kinematics, repeatability, and reproducibility of five different multi-segment foot models
Abstract
Background
Multi-segment foot models (MFMs) for assessing three-dimensional segmental foot motions are calculated via various analytical methods. Although validation studies have already been conducted, we cannot compare their results because the experimental environments in previous studies were different from each other. This study aims to compare the kinematics, repeatability, and reproducibility of five MFMs in the same experimental conditions.
Methods
Eleven healthy males with a mean age of 26.5 years participated in this study. We created a merged 29-marker set including five MFMs: Oxford (OFM), modified Rizzoli (mRFM), DuPont (DFM), Milwaukee (MiFM), and modified Shriners Hospital for Children Greenville (mSHCG). Two operators applied the merged model to participants twice, and then we analysed two relative angles of three segments: shank-hindfoot (HF) and hindfoot-forefoot (FF). Coefficients of multiple correlation (CMC) and mean standard errors were used to assess repeatability and reproducibility, and statistical parametric mapping (SPM) of the t-value was employed to compare kinematics.
Results
HF varus/valgus of the MiFM and mSHCG models, which rotated the segment according to radiographic or goniometric measurements during the reference frame construction, were significantly more repeatable and reproducible, compared to other models. They showed significantly more dorsiflexed HF and plantarflexed FF due to their static offset angles. DFM and mSHCG showed a greater range of motion (ROM), and some models had significantly different FF points of peak angle.
Conclusions
Under the same conditions, rotating the segment according to the appropriate offset angle obtained from radiographic or goniometric measurement increased reliability, but all MFMs had clinically acceptable reliability compared to previous studies. Moreover, in some models, especially HF varus/valgus, there were differences in ROM and points of peak angle even with no statistical difference in SPM curves. Therefore, based on the results of this study, clinicians and researchers involved in the evaluation of foot and ankle dysfunction need an understanding of the specific features of each MFM to make accurate decisions
Genetic Polymorphisms of the Bovine NOV Gene Are Significantly Associated with Carcass Traits in Korean Cattle
The objective of this study was to investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the bovine nephroblastoma overexpressed (NOV) gene and to evaluate whether these polymorphisms affect carcass traits in the Korean cattle population. We resequenced to detect SNPs from 24 unrelated individuals and identified 19 SNPs within the full 8.4-kb gene, including the 1.5-kb promoter region. Of these 19 SNPs, four were selected for genotyping based on linkage disequilibrium (LD). We genotyped 429 steers to assess the associations of these four SNPs with carcass traits. Statistical analysis revealed that g.7801T>C and g.8379A>C polymorphisms in the NOV gene were associated with carcass weight (p = 0.012 and 0.008, respectively), and the g.2005A>G polymorphism was associated with the back fat thickness (BF) trait (p = 0.0001). One haplotype of the four SNPs (GGTA) was significantly associated with BF (p = 0.0005). Our findings suggest that polymorphisms in the NOV gene may be among the important genetic factors affecting carcass yield in beef cattle
