    Get PDF
A vehicle counting and tracking system automatically detects and classifies vehicles from traffic surveillance video sequences. The system are used to replace manual labor to collect vehicles data for various application such as transportation planning and road safety evaluation. The existing Vehicle Detection and Classification System does not have tracking and counting module implemented. Tracking is required to enable automatic vehicle count. The objective of this project is to develop and implement tracking and counting feature into the existing vehicle detection and classification system, assess the vehicle detection and classification with tracking and counting feature system performances, and select the optimal parameters for tracking and counting module. Visual Background Extractor (ViBE) is used to extract the vehicles (foreground) from the traffic surveillance video sequences. Simple tracking and counting algorithm is used to track and count the detected vehicle. Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) is used to extract features from the detected vehicle. Multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to classify the detected vehicle into four classes, which are motorcycle, car, lorry, and non-vehicle. The system is evaluated using two video sequences which are 670 seconds long with total of 20100 frames. The overall system performance achieves 78.19 % and 88.14% for vehicle detection and classification, respectively

Foundations of Character - Developing Character and Values in the Early Years

Foundations of Character takes a deep and insightful look into character and values development during the 'early years' phase of education. It is commonly assumed that the influences on the early years of a child'slife are determinative for the future individual: the evidence from this report suggests that it is more complex. Children's exposure to and engagement in early childhood education is currently a widespread phenomenon in England, with 92% of three year olds and 98% of four year olds benefitting from some free early years education of up to 15 hours per week. This study aimed to explore the developing dispositions, values and attitudes of a sample of young children in the familiar contexts of their homes, early education settings, and primary schools. It was hoped that this exploration would also provide insights into the values of the significant adults in these children's lives, and these adults' views about the development of character and values

The purpose of this study is to investigate the parameters of displacement. velocity, and acceleration of water polo over arm throwing. Six water polo athletes participated in this study. Kwon 3D was utilized to analyze arm movement of water polo shooting, including the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of wrist, elbow, shoulder, and ball. The results indicated, first, the displacement of arm movement was quadratic polynomial at a frequency of 0.6 second with maximum distance of 130.97 cm for ball, 117.17 cm for wrist, 107.04 cm for elbow, and 94.22 cm for shoulder. Second, the velocity of arm movement was a cubic curve with maximum speed of 25.368 m/s for ball, 20.092 m/s for wrist, 19.732 rn/s for elbow, and 23.846 m/s for shoulder. Moreover, the change of maximum velocity of ball and wrist occurred after 1.5 seconds, while the velocity of elbow and shoulder both decreased for 0.5 seconds. Third, the acceleration of arm movement showed a 6th order polynomial at a frequency of 0.2 second with maximum acceleration of 505.082 m/s2 for ball, 545.526 m/s2 for wrist, 401.82 m/s2 for elbow, and 568.26 m/s2 for shoulder

: Since it is a well known fact that the cost to attract a new customer is approximately 5~10 times more than the cost of keeping existing clients for the enterprise, it is a very crucial issue for the business to focus on the need of customer relationship management. Therefore, e-CRM (electronic CRM) is widely accepted recently and the adopting rate in certain organization is up to 49% annually. In this study, a systematic multi-case study in Taiwan is performed for the B2B manufacturing industry and B2C service business in order to find the critical function and important issues for e-CRM in those businesses. In addition, the efficiency factors for e-CRM are analyzed since the roles of the clients in B2C and B2B are different, i.e., the organizational and personal behavior is compared. The preliminary results show e-CRM in Taiwan has been successfully improving the service for B2B and B2C and promoting closer relationship for both the sellers and buyers. The target of new customer acquiring is also improved effectivel

Problems of Online Physician-Patient Communication: An Investigation of a WebHospital in Taiwan

This study investigates patterns of on-line communication between physicians and patients on the consulting board of the KingNet WebHospital in Taiwan. The dermatology, urology, gynecology and pediatrics departments, which all have frequent physician-patient interaction on KingNet, were selected as samples. After conducting content analysis of total 600 on-line messages between physicians and patients from these four departments, we classified patients’ questions into four categories: “Symptoms and Diseases,” “Medications or Treatments,” “Tests or Diagnostic Procedures,” and “Prevention.” We also analyzed physicians’ responses and classified them into three types: ignore, partially-fulfil and fulfil. While questions involving “Symptoms and Diseases” were the ones most commonly raised by patients in all four departments, they were also the ones that most physicians ignored or answered only vaguely. To understand the possible causes of this gap, interviews were conducted with the physicians. The results show that, for physicians it is difficult to answer such questions on-line due to uncertainty of medical treatments, restrictions imposed by medical regulations, the possibility of medical disputes, and the perception gap between patients and physicians. Consequently, physicians tend to either offer “partial” suggestions or ask patients to go to hospital for further examination

First-principles Calculations of Engineered Surface Spin Structures

The engineered spin structures recently built and measured in scanning tunneling microscope experiments are calculated using density functional theory. By determining the precise local structure around the surface impurities, we find the Mn atoms can form molecular structures with the binding surface, behaving like surface molecular magnets. The spin structures are confirmed to be antiferromagnetic, and the exchange couplings are calculated within 8% of the experimental values simply by collinear-spin GGA+U calculations. We can also explain why the exchange couplings significantly change with different impurity binding sites from the determined local structure. The bond polarity is studied by calculating the atomic charges with and without the Mn adatoms

This paper analyzed the effect of online trading on investors’ trading behavior based on investors’ trading data provided by a major security firm in Taiwan. Our empirical findings are summarized as follows: 1. Male and the younger traders preferred online trading. Investors who had better gross return tend to switching to online trading mechanism. 2. Even though investors traded more actively after going online, their trade performance is not negatively affected. 3. Online trading does not significantly increase information-triggered trades (speculative trading), even though there is more access to information after going online. 4. Finally, the order execution efficiency of online trading is better than phone-based trading
