Objective: The main objective of this research work is to improve the bioavailability of curcumin using beta carotene nanoparticles in experimental animals. Methods: Curcumin-loaded beta carotene nanoparticles (NPs) have been prepared by emulsion–diffusion–evaporation method. Beta carotene and ethyl acetate were used to formulate NPs, and poly (vinyl alcohol) was used as a stabilizer. The emulsion diffusion evaporation method was used to prepare the nanoparticles and bioavailability and various pharmacokinetic parameters were compared with curcumin suspension in rats. Results: The nanoparticles were successfully prepared using beta carotene and curcumin and the drug loading was almost 93% of the initial weight. Particle sizes were below 200 nm with negative zeta potentials. Comparing the pharmacokinetic parameters of curcumin loaded nanoparticles (Cmax, Tmax, Kel, and AUC were 105 µg/ml, 2 h, 0.23/h, and 1629 µg.hr/ml) with pure curcumin (Cmax, Tmax, Kel and AUC 16 µg/ml, 1h, 0.275/h and 58 µg.hr/ml) indicated a drastic improvement in bioavailability of curcumin. Conclusion: The relative bioavailability was almost increased 30 times with beta carotene nanoparticles

Risk factors for fetal growth restriction in preterm births: a retrospective case control study

Background: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) and preterm birth (PTB) are two adverse pregnancy outcomes. There are many maternal risk factors that predispose to preterm and FGR independently. Very few studies have identified risk factors for combinations of preterm and FGR. The aim of the study was to find out whether risk factors for preterm FGR are different from the preterm non FGR.Methods: It was a retrospective case control study in which a total of 204 subjects (102 cases and 102 controls) were analyzed. Singleton, live as well as still births that occurred between 28+0 and 36+6 weeks of gestation were included in this study. FGR was defined as birth weight less than the 10th percentile as per intergrowth 21 charts. Odds ratios for the occurrence of preterm FGR and preterm non-FGR newborns, and respective 95% confidence intervals were estimated for each exposure variable. Results: Logistic regression analysis identified four significant risk factors for preterm FGR; low socioeconomic status (OR=1.9), manual labour (OR=12.9), BMI<18.5 kg/m2 (OR=9.2), passive smoking (OR=2.48). After adjusting these factors in multivariate analysis, underweight (OR=8.37) and manual work (OR=9.99) were found to be independent risk factors for FGR among preterm births. Conclusions: Interventions to promote early attendance to ANC services, reducing poverty, educating to avoid smoking and manual labour may significantly decrease the burden of FGR and preterm birth

TRIP BASED INFERENCE USING AUTOMATED FARE COLLECTION AND NAVIGATING BUS

The methodology is applicable to entry-only system designs coupled with distance-based fare structures, also it aims to boost raw AFC system data using the destination of person journeys. Automated fare collection (AFC) systems are utilized in lots of urban trains and buses systems all over the world. Because the designation indicates, these are generally made with the particular reason for automating the ticketing system, easing trains and buses use for travellers and adding efficiency to revenue collection procedures. It proposes new spatial validation features to improve the precision of destination inference results and also to verify key presumptions contained in previous origin-destination estimation literature. A methodology for estimating the destination of passenger journeys from automated fare collection (AFC) system information is described. The outcomes brought towards the conclusion the methodology works well for estimating journey locations in the disaggregate level and identifies false positives reliably. This paper describes a formula designed to implement the methodology and also the is a result of its application to bus service data from Porto. Additionally, AFC systems are utilized to enable integrated ticketing across different trains and buses modes and operators in cities

Abstract: In this paper, we analysed the potential of green management implementation in the working environment as all over the world protecting the environment is a major concern, due to the depletion of major green resources very fast, So green technology activities on green management as part of corporate social responsibility to implement the green management system within an organization level. This introduction of firm characteristics could simultaneously influence green systematic efforts are to reduce waste, planting trees, reducing natural resources as well as pollution reductions and thereafter monitoring systems of continuous basis to the objectives for positive results for all stakeholder

Terra firma-forme dermatosis – a dirty dermatosis: report of two cases

    No full text
Terra firma-forme dermatosis is characterized by ‘dirty’ brown-grey cutaneous patches and plaques that can simply be eradicated by forceful swabbing with alcohol pads. The pathogenesis has been attributed to abnormal and delayed keratinization. Although affected patients present with typical lesions, the disorder is not well-known by physicians. From a clinical point of view, we lay emphasis on its unique expression and diagnosis/treatment. From a histological perspective, we highlight its resemblance to dermatosis neglecta and speculate on the role of ‘neglect’ in a patient with seemingly adequate hygiene. The role of urea containing emollients in the development of this disorder remains to be determined
