An AEE Working Paper on women's access to land in Zimbabwe. In recent years, the issue of women's status; vis-a-vis land, has been of primary concern to those rural development agents who have become, aware of the vital role women play in. agricultural development. Several principal arguments demonstrating the effect that this lack of access has on agricultural development have emerged. Some, studies have argued that women's lack of access to and control over land has contributed to a decline in food production (Truscott, 1984). In this argument, lack of access is the absence of title to" usufruct or ownership rights, which excludes women from controlling land utilisation through the decision-making processes

A research paper on the history of rural financial markets in Zimbabwe. In the period 1980 to 1991, Zimbabwe’s commercial farming sector was serviced by a highly developed and regulated financial system. In contrast, the less developed rural sector was inadequately serviced by a poor formal financial system consisting of the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) credit scheme and building societies, or had to depend on informal financial institutions. Table 14.1 shows that only 16.5 per cent of all building society outlets were located in communal lands where 70 per cent of the country’s total population resided. The distribution of commercial banks also followed a similar pattern. Only 14 out of a total of 69 branches, sub-branches and agencies of Barclays Bank, for example, were in rural areas

Oxfam GB implemented the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme in Shurugwi, Chirumanzi and Kwekwe districts of Zimbabwe from September 2007 to April 2008. The VGF Programme responded to harvest failure within the context of a declining macroeconomic environment. It targeted vulnerable and food insecure households by providing food commodities to meet basic nutritional needs. This final evaluation focuses on the effectiveness of outputs and resource management, progress made towards achieving objectives, and areas of future improvement. It also assesses the current food situation in the selected sites. The aim is to learn lessons and make recommendations for future programme planning and design
