Identifying Biomagnetic Sources in the Brain by the Maximum Entropy Approach

Magnetoencephalographic (MEG) measurements record magnetic fields generated from neurons while information is being processed in the brain. The inverse problem of identifying sources of biomagnetic fields and deducing their intensities from MEG measurements is ill-posed when the number of field detectors is far less than the number of sources. This problem is less severe if there is already a reasonable prior knowledge in the form of a distribution in the intensity of source activation. In this case the problem of identifying and deducing source intensities may be transformed to one of using the MEG data to update a prior distribution to a posterior distribution. Here we report on some work done using the maximum entropy method (ME) as an updating tool. Specifically, we propose an implementation of the ME method in cases when the prior contain almost no knowledge of source activation. Two examples are studied, in which part of motor cortex is activated with uniform and varying intensities, respectively.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures. Exploring Continuous Integrate-and-Fire for Adaptive Simultaneous Speech Translation

Simultaneous speech translation (SimulST) is a challenging task aiming to translate streaming speech before the complete input is observed. A SimulST system generally includes two components: the pre-decision that aggregates the speech information and the policy that decides to read or write. While recent works had proposed various strategies to improve the pre-decision, they mainly adopt the fixed wait-k policy, leaving the adaptive policies rarely explored. This paper proposes to model the adaptive policy by adapting the Continuous Integrate-and-Fire (CIF). Compared with monotonic multihead attention (MMA), our method has the advantage of simpler computation, superior quality at low latency, and better generalization to long utterances. We conduct experiments on the MuST-C V2 dataset and show the effectiveness of our approach.Comment: Submitted to INTERSPEECH 202

Decomposition of the complete bipartite graph with a 1-factor removed into paths and stars

Let P_k denote a path on k vertices, and let S_k denote a star with k edges. For graphs F, G, and H, a decomposition of F is a set of edge-disjoint subgraphs of F whose union is F. A (G,H)-decomposition of F is a decomposition of F into copies of G and H using at least one of each. In this paper, necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the (P_{k+1},S_k)-decomposition of the complete bipartite graph with a 1-factor removed are given

Formation mechanism of SiGe nanorod arrays by combining nanosphere lithography and Au-assisted chemical etching

The formation mechanism of SiGe nanorod (NR) arrays fabricated by combining nanosphere lithography and Au-assisted chemical etching has been investigated. By precisely controlling the etching rate and time, the lengths of SiGe NRs can be tuned from 300 nm to 1 μm. The morphologies of SiGe NRs were found to change dramatically by varying the etching temperatures. We propose a mechanism involving a locally temperature-sensitive redox reaction to explain this strong temperature dependence of the morphologies of SiGe NRs. At a lower etching temperature, both corrosion reaction and Au-assisted etching process were kinetically impeded, whereas at a higher temperature, Au-assisted anisotropic etching dominated the formation of SiGe NRs. With transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses, this study provides a beneficial scheme to design and fabricate low-dimensional SiGe-based nanostructures for possible applications

Understanding Mobile Apps Continuance Usage Behavior and Habit: An Expectance-Confirmation Theory

    Get PDF
With the growing development of information technology and the wireless telecommunication network nowadays, mobile devices have been expanding rapidly and have been emerging as important tools for consumers. Using m-services and applications (apps) on mobile devices becomes custom in people’s daily lives. This study proposes a theoretical model to explore the continued usage behavior for smartphone. The objective of this study is to explore how perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, and confirmation influencing satisfaction and habit of consumers, and in turn influencing continued usage behavior, as well as the moderating effect of three characteristics of m-commerce. The proposed model will empirically be tested using survey method and collecting data from smartphone users in longitudinal setting. The structural equation modeling technique will be used to evaluate the causal model and confirmatory factor analysis will be performed to examine the reliability and validity of the measurement model. The findings of this study are expected to illustrate how factors influence individuals to use m-services and mobile apps and become a habit, as well as how these habits influence continued smartphone usage
