The Value Of Conflict In Software Project Team: A Social Network Perspective

    Get PDF
Conflict management is critical to project human resource and communication management. Conflict is inevitable in project and teamwork. Properly managed, a certain amount of conflicts is beneficial. However, the relationships between conflict management and team performance are inconsistent in previous studies. This study investigates the how project members\u27 interpersonal relationships among internal members and external actors are related to the conflict solution satisfaction, and examines the effectiveness social interaction and satisfaction on the relationship between conflict management style and team performance. This study strives to make two contributions. First, this study adds to the sparse empirical evidence on the impact of social interaction ties on conflict management. Second, recent work on social interaction in organization has emphasized how social ties provide information and resource to a focal individual. We attempt to extend this concept at team level. In examining the relationship between social interaction ties and conflict solution satisfaction, and further affect the relationship among conflict management and team performance, this study provides a rationale for project managers to develop their conflict management skills

The Impact of Social Constructs on Continuance Intention in Online Auction: Community Prespective VS Transaction Perspective

This study analyzes social constructs from different types of actor behavior (i.e. transaction-oriented and community-oriented) to understand the influencing factors of their intention to use with online auction. We introduce social influence process and social capital theory to conceptualize research model, and a survey-based study was conducted. The simultaneous analysis of several groups was applied to test the research hypotheses. Our results verified that varied social constructs promote continuance intention for different types of online auction behavior, which are believed to contribute to the online auction development and management. We also conclude with a consideration of academic implication of the findings

Knowing who to know in Knowledge Sharing Communities: A Social Network Analysis Approach

    Get PDF
Information stored in online communities consist not only knowledge contents, but also the information of knowledge providers and searchers‟ connective relationships, and network structures. Online Communities provide effective platforms for interaction and play pivotal roles in making provision for the basis of analysis as all the ask-response paired relationships are automatically recorded. This paper demonstrates how to apply social network analysis to analyze the interaction data for generating the “role information” of the knowledge searchers and providers. Integrating concepts of uncertainty in knowledge searching and sociometric used in social network analysis, we develop a mechanism for role matching in knowledge search for each questions posed. Roles identified in this approach including central, network entrepreneur (e.g. spanning structural holes), neighboring mediate (e.g. knowledge gate keeper), and resource competitor (e.g. structural equivalent players). The result is demonstrated and visualized in a web-based community platform and tested in a real-world programmer forum-based community

The mechanism of high transfection efficiency of human serum albumin conjugated polyethylenimine in A549 cells

Background: In our previous study, HSA-PEI demonstrated high pDNA transfection efficiency and low cytotoxicity. Materials and Methods: In this study, the relationship between albumin receptors and the high pDNA transfection efficiency of HSA-PEI was investigated by fluorescent microscopy and flow-cytometer in A549 cells. Results: According to our results, the presence of an albumin receptor on A549 cells was confirmed via the application of a fluorescent tracer, FITC-HSA, and the dose-dependent competition of HSA. The transfection efficiency of HSA-PEI/pEGFP showed a dose-dependent inhibition when different amounts of HSA were added to the culture medium of the A549 cells. However, the inhibitory effect of HSA did not affect the transfection efficiency of some cationic transfection enhancement reagents, such as lipofectamine, jetPEI-RGD or PEI; their transfection was a result of contact between the positively charged reagents and the negatively charged cell surface. Conclusion: It was determined that, unlike other cationic reagents, the high transfection efficiency of HSA-PEI was not from the electronic effect but, instead, predominantly from its ligand effect

Ubiquitous Emergency Medical Service System Based on Wireless Biosensors, Traffic Information, and Wireless Communication Technologies: Development and Evaluation

    No full text
This study presents a new ubiquitous emergency medical service system (UEMS) that consists of a ubiquitous tele-diagnosis interface and a traffic guiding subsystem. The UEMS addresses unresolved issues of emergency medical services by managing the sensor wires for eliminating inconvenience for both patients and paramedics in an ambulance, providing ubiquitous accessibility of patients’ biosignals in remote areas where the ambulance cannot arrive directly, and offering availability of real-time traffic information which can make the ambulance reach the destination within the shortest time. In the proposed system, patient’s biosignals and real-time video, acquired by wireless biosensors and a webcam, can be simultaneously transmitted to an emergency room for pre-hospital treatment via WiMax/3.5 G networks. Performances of WiMax and 3.5 G, in terms of initialization time, data rate, and average end-to-end delay are evaluated and compared. A driver can choose the route of the shortest time among the suggested routes by Google Maps after inspecting the current traffic conditions based on real-time CCTV camera streams and traffic information. The destination address can be inputted vocally for easiness and safety in driving. A series of field test results validates the feasibility of the proposed system for application in real-life scenarios
