A Taxonomy of Hyperlink Hiding Techniques

Hidden links are designed solely for search engines rather than visitors. To get high search engine rankings, link hiding techniques are usually used for the profitability of black industries, such as illicit game servers, false medical services, illegal gambling, and less attractive high-profit industry, etc. This paper investigates hyperlink hiding techniques on the Web, and gives a detailed taxonomy. We believe the taxonomy can help develop appropriate countermeasures. Study on 5,583,451 Chinese sites' home pages indicate that link hidden techniques are very prevalent on the Web. We also tried to explore the attitude of Google towards link hiding spam by analyzing the PageRank values of relative links. The results show that more should be done to punish the hidden link spam.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure

Chronic Inflammation Connects the Development of Parkinson’s Disease and Cancer

Increasing number of genetic studies suggest that the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and cancer may involve similar genes, pathways, and mechanisms. The differences in the pathological and cellular mechanisms, and the associated genetic mutations, may result in two such divergent diseases. However, the links between the molecular mechanisms that cause PD and cancer remain to be elucidated. This article appraises the overlapping molecular features of these diseases and discusses the implications for prevention and treatment. We propose that chronic inflammation (CI) in neurons and tumors contributes to a microenvironment that favors the amassing of DNA mutations and facilitating disease formation. CI may therefore play a key role in the development of PD and cancer, and provide a link between these two diseases

While animal experimentations have spearheaded numerous breakthroughs in biomedicine, they also have spawned many logistical concerns in providing toxicity screening for copious new materials. Their prioritization is premised on performing cellular-level screening in vitro. Among the screening assays, secretomic assay with high sensitivity, analytical throughput, and simplicity is of prime importance. Here, we build on the over 3-decade-long progress on transistor biosensing and develop the holistic assay platform and procedure called semiconductor electronic label-free assay (SELFA). We demonstrate that SELFA, which incorporates an amplifying nanowire field-effect transistor biosensor, is able to offer superior sensitivity, similar selectivity, and shorter turnaround time compared to standard enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We deploy SELFA secretomics to predict the inflammatory potential of eleven engineered nanomaterials in vitro, and validate the results with confocal microscopy in vitro and confirmatory animal experiment in vivo. This work provides a foundation for high-sensitivity label-free assay utility in predictive toxicology
