    Hemiselmis andersenii and Chlorella stigmatophora as new sources of high‐value compounds: a lipidomic approach

    To unlock the potential of Chlorella stigmatophora (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta) and Hemiselmis andersenii (Cryptophyceae, Cryptophyta) as natural reactors for biotechnological exploitation, their lipophilic extracts were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy with Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIR-ATR) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) before and after alkaline hydrolysis. The GC-MS analysis enabled the identification of 62 metabolites-namely fatty acids (27), aliphatic alcohols (17), monoglycerides (7), sterols (4), and other compounds (7). After alkaline hydrolysis, monounsaturated fatty acids increased by as much as 87%, suggesting that the esterified compounds were mainly neutral lipids. Hemiselmis andersenii yielded the highest ÎŁÏ‰3/ÎŁÏ‰6 ratio (7.26), indicating that it is a good source of ω3 fatty acids, in comparison to C. stigmatophora (ÎŁÏ‰3/ÎŁÏ‰6 = 1.24). Both microalgae presented significant amounts of aliphatic alcohols (6.81-10.95 mg · g dw-1 ), which are recognized by their cholesterol-lowering properties. The multivariate analysis allowed visualization of the chemical divergence among H. andersenii lipophilic extracts before and after alkaline hydrolysis, as well as species-specific differences. Chlorella stigmatophora showed to be a valuable source of essential fatty acids for nutraceuticals, whereas H. andersenii, due to its high chemical diversity, seems to be suitable for different fields of application.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Introduction : Le diverticule de Zenker est une pathologie acquise rare qui touche surtout le sujet ĂągĂ©. Il peut ĂȘtre Ă  l’origine de sĂ©rieuses complications pulmonaires.MatĂ©riel et mĂ©thodes : il s’agit d’une Ă©tude rĂ©trospective Ă  propos de 6 patients opĂ©rĂ©s pour diverticule de Zenker au service d’ORL Farhat Hached de Sousse sur une pĂ©riode de 15 ans (1996-2010).RĂ©sultats : Le symptĂŽme majeur Ă©tait la dysphagie. L’ñge moyen Ă©tait de 64 ans. Les six patients Ă©taient opĂ©rĂ©s par voie de cervicotomie. Les suites opĂ©ratoires immĂ©diates Ă©taient bonnes. Un seul patient a  dĂ©veloppĂ© une stĂ©nose oesophagienne.Conclusion : Le diverticule de Zenker est une pathologie rare qui touche le sujet ĂągĂ©. Le tableau clinique est peu spĂ©cifique. Son diagnostic positif est confirmĂ© par le transit pharyngo-oesophagien. La cervicotomie ainsi que l’endoscopie reprĂ©sentent les deux modalitĂ©s thĂ©rapeutiques possibles. La diverticulectomie avec myotomie trans-muqueuse reste le traitement de choix pour le sujet jeune.     Cliophysics: Socio-political Reliability Theory, Polity Duration and African Political (In)stabilities

    Quantification of historical sociological processes have recently gained attention among theoreticians in the effort of providing a solid theoretical understanding of the behaviors and regularities present in sociopolitical dynamics. Here we present a reliability theory of polity processes with emphases on individual political dynamics of African countries. We found that the structural properties of polity failure rates successfully capture the risk of political vulnerability and instabilities in which 87.50%, 75%, 71.43%, and 0% of the countries with monotonically increasing, unimodal, U-shaped and monotonically decreasing polity failure rates, respectively, have high level of state fragility indices. The quasi-U-shape relationship between average polity duration and regime types corroborates historical precedents and explains the stability of the autocracies and democracies.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

    Structural and magnetic properties of Co2MnSi thin films

    Co2MnSi (CMS) films of different thicknesses (20, 50, and 100 nm) were grown by radio frequency (RF) sputtering on a-plane sapphire substrates. Our X-rays diffraction (XRD) study shows that, in all the samples, the cubic 〈110〉 CMS axis is normal to the substrate and that six well defined preferential in-plane orientations are present. Static and dynamic magnetic properties were investigated using vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and microstrip line ferromagnetic resonance (MS-FMR), respectively. From the resonance measurements versus the direction and the amplitude of an applied magnetic field, most of the magnetic parameters are derived, i.e.: the magnetization, the gyromagnetic factor, the exchange stiffness coefficient, and the magnetic anisotropy terms. The in-plane anisotropy results from the superposition of two terms showing a twofold and a fourfold symmetry, respectively.     Profile of patients with HPV infection at the regional hospital of Saint-Louis, Senegal

    Background: Objectives of current study was to define the sociodemographic characteristics of patients, to determine the frequency of HPV infection at the CHRSL and to describe factors associated with HPV infection. Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted in the gynecology-obstetrics department of the Saint Louis Regional Hospital Center from November 11, 2019 to November 11, 2021, a period of 24 months. We studied sociodemographic, clinical and test results characteristics. Samples were taken from patients in the gynaecological position using a dedicated kit (cytobrush and tube). Viral research was carried out using the Atila Biosystems device for amplification and detection of viral DNA. This test genotypes HPV 16, 18 and 45, and detects 12 other HR HPVs (31, 33, 35, 39, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68) simultaneously using three probes labelled with different fluorophores. Analysis was performed using Epi-Info software and Excel 2010. Results: The study population comprised 128 patients. The mean age of the patients was 41.95 years, with extremes of 23 and 70 years. They were married (92.97%) and housewives (46.88%). Almost all patients (77.34%) were genitally active. The average age at marriage was 21.78 years, and polygamous households predominated (53.91%). The average age at first intercourse was 20.05 years. The average age at first pregnancy was 21.78. Over (57.81%) of patients had at least two partners. Incense was used in 97.66% of cases. The viral HPV test was positive in (38.28%) of patients. High-risk papillomaviruses were the most common, at 63.27%. Colposcopy was performed in 17.19%; normal and satisfactory in (63.64%) of patients, with 22.27% of cervical biopsies, and histology showed one CIN2 and two CIN3. Therapeutically, one thermoablation and two hysterectomies were performed. Conclusions: HPV viral typing in primary screening for cervical cancer offers opportunities and remains realistic and feasible in less developed countries such as Senegal, despite modest resources

    Second T = 3/2 state in 9^9B and the isobaric multiplet mass equation

    Recent high-precision mass measurements and shell model calculations~[Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 108}, 212501 (2012)] have challenged a longstanding explanation for the requirement of a cubic isobaric multiplet mass equation for the lowest A=9A = 9 isospin quartet. The conclusions relied upon the choice of the excitation energy for the second T=3/2T = 3/2 state in 9^9B, which had two conflicting measurements prior to this work. We remeasured the energy of the state using the 9Be(3He,t)^9{\rm Be}(^3{\rm He},t) reaction and significantly disagree with the most recent measurement. Our result supports the contention that continuum coupling in the most proton-rich member of the quartet is not the predominant reason for the large cubic term required for A=9A = 9 nuclei

    Heavy metal levels in tissues (gonads and fillets) of Horse mackerel collected from Ghazaouet Bay (Western Mediterranean coast of Algeria)

    The concentration levels of Zn, Pb, Cd and Cu were evaluated in the gonads and fillets of Horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) collected from Ghazaouet bay. The results showed the accumulation of Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn in the gonads and fillets. The metal concentrations in the fillets and gonads decreased in the following order: Zn >Cd >Pb >Cu and Zn >Cd >Cu >Pb, respectively. The levels of essential metals (zinc and copper) in both target organs generally complied with the recommended value for fish while the levels of non-essential metals like cadmium and lead, which are toxic and present in traces, greatly exceeded the recommended values in both target organs, which are ascribed mainly to the industrial pollution in Ghazaouet area. Therefore, it can be concluded that these heavy metals in different tissues of Horse mackerel, which is highly consumed in the Algerian coastal regions, could pose adverse health effects on consumers

    Static and dynamic magnetic properties of epitaxial Fe1.7Ge thin films grown on Ge(111)

    We have studied the magnetic properties of thin epitaxial hexagonal Fe1.7Ge films grown on Ge(111) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. For all samples, X-ray diffraction revealed an excellent epitaxy of the Fe1.7Ge films, with crystallographic [11 (2) over bar0] and [1 (1) over bar 00] axes lying in the sample plane. The static magnetic properties were studied by Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) at room temperature. The dynamic magnetic properties at room temperature were investigated by Micro-Strip Ferromagnetic Resonance (MS-FMR). The frequency dependence of the spectra versus the orientation of the applied in-plane magnetic field shows that the contribution of the in-plane anisotropy to the magnetic energy density consists in two distinct terms exhibiting a twofold and a sixfold symmetry, respectively. The amplitude of the sixfold anisotropy constant is an increasing function of the film thickness. The observed angular dependence of the MOKE reduced remanent magnetization is described using a coherent rotation model. A good agreement is observed between the in-plane anisotropy values derived from MS-FMR and those obtained with MOKE Transverse Bias Initial Inverse Susceptibility and Torque data.
