Optimization of Technological Parameters for Preparation of Geopolymers Fabricated with Pulverized Fly Ash
Geopolymer is widely considered as an important direction for the comprehensive utilization of fly ash with its production increasing sharply year by year. The effect of mixing proportion including SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio, Na2O/SiO2 molar ratio and water-solid ratio on the performances of geopolymer fabricated with pulverized fly ash with a median particle size of 3.3 μm was investigated by an orthogonal test in this work, and the optimum preparation technics were also obtained. Results indicated that the compressive strength of geopolymer reached the maximum of 61.0 MPa when SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio was 3.3, Na2O/SiO2 molar ratio was 0.11 and the W/S ratio was 0.30 under the optimum preparation technics of aging time of 3h, mixing time of 3min and curing at 80℃ for 24h. Overall, Na2O/SiO2 molar ratio played the most important role on the compressive strength of geopolymer, but SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio had a minimal impact. FTIR spectrum demonstrated that the sample with the optimum proportion exhibited a more complex asymmetric stretching vibration peak, which indicated that there were more activated silicon/aluminum monomers and dimers in fly ash depolumerized and repolymerized and tetrahedral phase transitions, and then geopolymer paste with denser microstructure was formed
Small interference RNA targeting tissue factor inhibits human lung adenocarcinoma growth in vitro and in vivo
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The human coagulation trigger tissue factor (TF) is overexpressed in several types of cancer and involved in tumor growth, vascularization, and metastasis. To explore the role of TF in biological processes of lung adenocarcinoma, we used RNA interference (RNAi) technology to silence TF in a lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549 with high-level expression of TF and evaluate its antitumor effects in vitro and in vivo.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The specific small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed for targeting human TF was transfected into A549 cells. The expression of TF was detected by reverse transcription-PCR and Western blot. Cell proliferation was measured by MTT and clonogenic assays. Cell apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. The metastatic potential of A549 cells was determined by wound healing, the mobility and Matrigel invasion assays. Expressions of PI3K/Akt, Erk1/2, VEGF and MMP-2/-9 in transfected cells were detected by Western blot. In vivo, the effect of TF-siRNA on the growth of A549 lung adenocarcinoma xenografts in nude mice was investigated.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>TF -siRNA significantly reduced the expression of TF in the mRNA and protein levels. The down-regulation of TF in A549 cells resulted in the suppression of cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis and induced cell apoptosis in dose-dependent manner. Erk MAPK, PI3K/Akt pathways as well as VEGF and MMP-2/-9 expressions were inhibited in TF-siRNA transfected cells. Moreover, intratumoral injection of siRNA targeting TF suppressed the tumor growth of A549 cells in vivo model of lung adenocarcinoma.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Down-regulation of TF using siRNA could provide a potential approach for gene therapy against lung adenocarcinoma, and the antitumor effects may be associated with inhibition of Erk MAPK, PI3K/Akt pathways.</p
Ferromagnetic and insulating behavior in both half magnetic levitation and non-levitation LK-99 like samples
Finding materials exhibiting superconductivity at room temperature has long
been one of the ultimate goals in physics and material science. Recently,
room-temperature superconducting properties have been claimed in a copper
substituted lead phosphate apatite (PbCu(PO)O, or called
LK-99) [1-3]. Using a similar approach, we have prepared LK-99 like samples and
confirmed the half-levitation behaviors in some small specimens under the
influence of a magnet at room temperature. To examine the magnetic properties
of our samples, we have performed systematic magnetization measurements on the
as-grown LK-99-like samples, including the half-levitated and non-levitated
samples. The magnetization measurements show the coexistence of
soft-ferromagnetic and diamagnetic signals in both half-levitated and
non-levitated samples. The electrical transport measurements on the as-grown
LK-99-like samples including both half-levitated and non-levitated samples show
an insulating behavior characterized by the increasing resistivity with the
decreasing temperature
Operational risks and coping strategies of micro-enterprise in peer-to-peer accommodation service sector: Evidences from China
Focusing on the supply side of peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodation service sector, this study identifies the emerging types of micro-enterprise operators in the growing Chinese market, and investigate their respective operational risks and coping strategies.
A qualitative study was adopted to explore the micro-enterprise in peer-to-peer accommodation in China. Twenty semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore the operators’ behaviors in the service sector.
Based on the types of property ownership and forms of interaction, four groups of operators were identified, i.e. hospitable sharers, remote sharers, roommates and butlers. This study uncovers their operational risk factors (safety, cost, legal and social, psychological) and respective coping strategies.
Most prior studies on P2P accommodation sector are conducted from the demand side about customer behaviors. This study not only enhances the understanding of the hosts in the sharing economy by developing a novel typology of operators, but also provides insights into the operational behaviors on an individual operator perspective
High-resolution chalcogenide fiber bundles for infrared imaging
An ordered chalcogenide fiber bundle with a high resolution for infrared imaging was fabricated using a stack-and-draw approach. The fiber bundle consisted of about 810,000 single fibers with an As2S3 glass core of 9 μm in diameter and a polyetherimide (PEI) polymer cladding of 10 μm in diameter. The As2S3 fibers showed good transparency in the 1.5–6.5 μm spectral region. It presented a resolution of ~45 lp/mm and a crosstalk of ~2.5%.
