Fully integrated InGaAs/InP single-photon detector module with gigahertz sine wave gating
InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) working in the regime of
GHz clock rates are crucial components for the high-speed quantum key
distribution (QKD). We have developed for the first time a compact, stable and
user-friendly tabletop InGaAs/InP single-photon detector system operating at a
1.25 GHz gate rate that fully integrates functions for controlling and
optimizing SPAD performance. We characterize the key parameters of the detector
system and test the long-term stability of the system for continuous operation
of 75 hours. The detector system can substantially enhance QKD performance and
our present work paves the way for practical high-speed QKD applications.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication in Review of Scientific

Robust creation of entanglement between remote memory qubits
In this Letter we propose a robust quantum repeater architecture building on
the original DLCZ protocol [L.M. Duan \textit{et al.}, Nature \textbf{414}, 413
(2001)]. The architecture is based on two-photon Hong-Ou-Mandel-type
interference which relaxes the long distance stability requirements by about 7
orders of magnitude, from sub wavelength for the single photon interference
required by DLCZ to the coherence length of the photons. Our proposal provides
an exciting possibility for robust and realistic long distance quantum
communication.Comment: Comments are welcome, to appear in Phys. Rev. Lett., accepted versio
Integrated Chassis Control of Active Front Steering and Yaw Stability Control Based on Improved Inverse Nyquist Array Method
An integrated chassis control (ICC) system with active front steering (AFS) and yaw stability control (YSC) is introduced in this paper. The proposed ICC algorithm uses the improved Inverse Nyquist Array (INA) method based on a 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) planar vehicle reference model to decouple the plant dynamics under different frequency bands, and the change of velocity and cornering stiffness were considered to calculate the analytical solution in the precompensator design so that the INA based algorithm runs well and fast on the nonlinear vehicle system. The stability of the system is guaranteed by dynamic compensator together with a proposed PI feedback controller. After the response analysis of the system on frequency domain and time domain, simulations under step steering maneuver were carried out using a 2-DOF vehicle model and a 14-DOF vehicle model by Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the system is decoupled and the vehicle handling and stability performance are significantly improved by the proposed method
Generation of Narrow-Band Polarization-Entangled Photon Pairs for Atomic Quantum Memories
We report an experimental realization of a narrow-band polarization-entangled
photon source with a linewidth of 9.6 MHz through cavity-enhanced spontaneous
parametric down-conversion. This linewidth is comparable to the typical
linewidth of atomic ensemble based quantum memories. Single-mode output is
realized by setting a reasonable cavity length difference between different
polarizations, using of temperature controlled etalons and actively stabilizing
the cavity. The entangled property is characterized with quantum state
tomography, giving a fidelity of 94% between our state and a maximally
entangled state. The coherence length is directly measured to be 32 m through
two-photon interference.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
