In the title linear coordination polymer, {[Cu(C2H3O2)2(C12H10N4)]·2H2O}n, the CuII atom is coordinated by two N atoms from two different symmetry-related 1,4-diimidazol-1-ylbenzene (dib) ligands and two carboxylate O atoms from two acetate ligands in a square-planar geometry. The Cu atoms are linked by the dib ligands, forming an extended chain. These chains are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional supramolecular network. The CuII atom lies on a center of inversion

Introduction: Hypospadias repair is a challenging technique in pediatric urology with a long learning curve. This study presents the results of urethroplasty performed by a single surgeon to repair hypospadias in children and compares the surgical outcomes at different periods. Materials and Methods: From January 2009 to February 2016, patients who were less than 18 years old and were operated for hypospadias were retrospectively reviewed and divided into two groups: group I (from January 2009 to February 2012) and group II (from March 2012 to February 2016). All operations were performed by the same pediatric surgeon, andsurgical outcomes of the two periods were compared. Results: This study considered150 patients (69 in group I/81 in group II). The Mean operative age was 30.4±32.7 months in group I and 33.6±43.3 months in group II(p=0.309). The selected procedures mainly depended on the subjective anatomical analysis in the operating room and the surgeon’s preference. The mean follow-up duration was 21.7±28.31 months in group I and 13.6±16.6 months in group II (p=0.033).The overall complication rate was 44.9% in group Iand 35.8% in group II (p=0.316). The incidence of glanular disruption significantly decreased from 21.7% to 6.2% (p=0.007) because of the wide dissection of the glanular wings and the deep incision of the urethral plate, which led to tension-free sutures for glanular reconstruction. Conclusions: One-stage repair of hypospadias may achieve satisfactory outcomes in cosmetic appearance and voiding function. Surgical outcomes could be improved by increasing practice

The title compound, C19H14O, contains two independent molecules with the same s-cis conformation for the ketone unit. Both molecules are non-planar with dihedral angles of 51.9 (1) and 48.0 (1)° between the benzene ring and the naphthalene ring system. In the crystal, neighboring molecules are stabilized by intermolecular C—H⋯π interactions, giving a two-dimensional supramolecular array parallel to the ab plane

In the centrosymmetric polymeric title compound, {[CoGd2(C14H8N2O5)4(H2O)4]·4H2O}n, the GdIII cation is coordinated by one water molecule and four pyridine-4-carboxamidoisophthalate (L) anions in a distorted square-antiprismatic arrangement, while the CoII cation, located on an inversion center, is coordinated by two pyridyl-N atoms, two carboxylate-O atoms and two water molecules in a distorted octahedral geometry. The asymmetric unit contains two anionic L ligands: one bridges two Gd cations and one Co cation through two carboxyl groups and one pyridine-N atom; the other bridges two Gd cations and one Co cation through two carboxyl groups and the uncoordinated pyridine-N atom is hydrogen-bonded to the adjacent coordinated water molecule. Extensive O—H⋯O and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure

The title complex, [CuFe(C5H5)(C20H14N3)(C12H8N2)](ClO4)2·C2H3N, consists of a mononuclear [Cu(C12H8N2)(C25H19FeN3)]2+ cation, two ClO4 − anions (one of which is disordered over two positions with equal occupancy) and one CH3CN solvent molecule. The CuII center has a distorted square-pyramidal coordination with three N atoms of the 4′-ferrocenyl-2,2′:6′,2′′- terpyridine (fctpy) ligand and one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) N atom in the basal plane and a second phen N atom in the apical position with an axial distance of 2.254 (4) Å. The disordered ClO4 − anion is weakly coordinated to the CuII ion with a Cu—O distance of 2.766 (11) Å. The two cyclopentadienyl rings of the ferrocenyl group are almost eclipsed with a deviation of 4.7 (1) °, and are involved in intermolecular π–π interactions with the outer pyridyl rings of the fctpy ligands [centroid–centroid distance = 3.759 (2) Å.]

Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis, a host-adapted pathogen of swine, usually causes septicemia. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains have been widely studied in recent years for their probiotic properties. In this study, a mouse infection model first screened for potential agents against infection, then a pig infection model evaluated effects of LAB strains and herbal plants against infection. Scutellariae radix (SR) and Gardeniae fructus (GF) showed abilities to reduce bacteria shedding and suppressing serum level of TNF-α induced by infection in swine. Bioactivities of SR and GF were enhanced by combining with LAB strains, which alone could speed up the bacteria elimination time in feces and boost immunity of infected pigs. Baicalein and genipin exhibited stronger cytotoxicity than baicalin and geniposide did, as well as prevent Salmonella from invading macrophages. Our study suggests LAB strains as exhibiting multiple functions: preventing infection, enhancing immunity to prepare host defenses against further infection, and adjusting intestinal microbes’ enzymatic activity in order to convert herbal compounds to active compounds. The SR/GF-LAB strain mixture holds potential infection-prevention agents supplied as feed additives
