Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 1983The distribution and growth of walleye pollock, Theragva ohalaogvamna (Pallas), were studied in relation to bottom water temperatures, in an area between latitude 54°30'N and 57°30'N and longitude 160°W and 170°W, from the data collected from 1976 to 1980. The annual variations of bottom temperature distribution, including mean temperature, are described. It is found that temperature boundaries regulate spawning aggregation areas and feeding distribution of adult pollock. Young pollock were distributed in a wider temperature range and revealed a clearer feeding migration pattern than the adults. The weight growth for walleye pollock aged 2 to 4 was determined. The growth rate varied with age, sex and year. The relative growth rate was related to the initial weight of the fish and the mean temperature. Additional seasonal variations in the length-weight relationship and condition factor were observed

Casino gaming is growing. In America, casino operations have become the largest segments of the entertainment industry. In Asia, another four countries will legalize casino gambling in 1994. The legislators are evaluating the necessity of legalized casino gambling in Taiwan. According to other countries\u27 casino operation experiences, some legislators consider hotel industry investors to be the most suitable operators of casino operations. One of their concerns was whether or not owners of hotels would be willing to invest in casinos. The purpose of this study is to assess the attitudes of key executives of International Tourist Hotels toward casino investments in Taiwan; The results disclosed that the key executives\u27 perceptions of casino investments in Taiwan are positive and the majority of them are willing to invest in casinos in Taiwan

An investigation into the relationship between commitment as loyalty: Commitment as a key mediating variable for loyalty

Many studies have verified that a service provider can benefit greatly from customer commitment and loyalty. However, there is a lack of consensus in the definition of commitment and loyalty constructs and ways of measuring them. As indicated by Pritchard, et al. (I999), there is a dearth of empirical consumer research examining the relationship between commitment and loyalty. Understanding the role that commitment plays in developing and explaining loyalty and the relationship between commitment and loyalty are critical in facilitating the evolution of loyalty; This study empirically examined whether commitment is a key-mediating variable for loyalty. The relationships between commitment and loyalty constructs, and their antecedents and consequences were accessed; Simultaneous multiple regressions were applied to test all one-tailed hypotheses at the .05 alpha level (n = 290). Six hypothesized relationships proposed in this study were supported by the results of this study. The first three hypotheses were sustained, indicating that a direct and positive relationship existed between benefit and commitment, between trust and commitment, and between personal identification and commitment. Furthermore, the fourth hypothesis was endorsed, denoting commitment directly influenced resistance to change to competitors. Finally, the fifth and sixth hypotheses were substantiated, indicating that resistance to change to competitors directly led to repeat purchase and partnership-like activities; Conceptual and theoretical implications are discussed. General implications of the result from the research are presented. Limitations of this study are discussed. Finally, suggestions for future research were provided
