New records of Xorides (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Xoridinae) from Florida
Xorides albopictus (Cresson) and Xorides calidus (Provancher) are recorded for the first time from Florida. New Florida records are given for Xorides semirufus Townes, previously known only from the holotype female collected near Archer in Alachua County in 1953. A key is provided to the Florida species of Xorides. A photograph of X. semirufus is included.
On four species of Copepoda new to Chesapeake Bay, with a description of a new variety of Paracalanus crassirostris Dahl
At this time, four additional species, unreported by Wilson [1932], can be added to the list of those species to be found within the limits of the bay. These are Acartia tonsa Dana, Cyclops vernalis Fischer, Diaptomus spatulocrenatus Pearse, and Paracalanus crassirostris Dahl var. nudus nov. The specimens from which identifications were made were collected by means of Clarke-Bumpus nets, in use on the motor ship "Mahatru.
Introduction
This issue of Explorations in Ethnic Studies brings into focus the vision NAIES has had from the onset, i.e., the pursuit of ”explorations and solutions” to problems within the context of oppression as they relate to the coloured ethnic minority experience in the US. and other places. In two separate essays, lack Forbes and Vine Deloria present issues which ethnic studies proponents must address if such study is to be viable. These writers recognize ethnic studies as being about the business of empowering individuals to be creatively involved in their futures. Forbes and Deloria present varying perspectives, recognizing the history and implications of fascism and institutional racism on a global scale as well as the more immediate policies such as affirmative action and ethnic minority preference
A remarkable new species of Zethus Fabricius (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Eumeninae) from Costa Rica
Porter, new species, is described from Costa Rica. It forms a species group of its own, unique in its grotesquely enlarged male mandibles and reduced clypeus, single mid tibial spur, and in having a medio-apical bulge on the second sternite. It was previously identified as Z. magretti Zavattari but reexamination of the type of this species shows that it actually belongs to the coeruleopennis species group
Habronyx Foerster (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Anomaloninae) in Andean and Neantarctic South Americawith description of new species from Bolivia and Chile
Habronyx Foerster occurs in all regions except the Afrotropical and parasitizes lepidopterous larvae (Geometridae, Noctuidae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Psychidae). Habronyx albifrons (Spinola) inhabits neantartic Chile and southern Argentina. It is black with a white flagellar annulus and with a strong prepectal carina on the lower half of the mesopleuron. Habronyx albifrons is redescribed and descriptions are given of two new species which belong to a group of their own: Habronyx citrinus Porter, n. sp., from central Chile; and Habronyx punensis Porter, n. sp., from the high Andean steppe of Bolivia, where it attacks noctuid larvae on Chenopodium quinoa Willd. These differ from H. albifrons because the prepectal carina is absent on the mesopleuron, being developed only on the mesosternum, and because they have the flagellum uniformly black and the gaster extensively orange. Habronyx punensis differs from H. citrinus in having a sharp carina on the front, the mesopleural punctures not reticulately confluent, the discoidella weaker and in part desclerotize
