Measurement of the t-channel single top quark production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7TeV

    No full text
Electroweak production of the top quark is measured for the first time in pp collisions at √s=7TeV, using a data set collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36pb-1. With an event selection optimized for t-channel production, two complementary analyses are performed. The first one exploits the special angular properties of the signal, together with background estimates from the data. The second approach uses a multivariate analysis technique to probe the compatibility with signal topology expected from electroweak top-quark production. The combined measurement of the cross section is 83.6±29.8(stat+syst)±3.3(lumi) pb, consistent with the standard model expectation.0info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Measurement of the differential dijet production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV

A measurement of the double-differential inclusive dijet production cross section in proton-proton collisions at √s=A7 TeV is presented as a function of the dijet invariant mass and jet rapidity. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb-1, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the dijet mass range 0.2 TeV to 3.5 TeV and jet rapidities up to0e-Print: arXiv:1104.1693 [hep-ex]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Search for a vectorlike quark with charge 2/3 in t+Z events from pp collisions at √s=7TeV

    No full text
A search for pair-produced heavy vectorlike charge-2/3 quarks, T, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events consistent with the flavor-changing-neutral-current decay of a T quark to a top quark and a Z boson are selected by requiring two leptons from the Z-boson decay, as well as an additional isolated charged lepton. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.14fb -1, the number of observed events is found to be consistent with the standard model background prediction. Assuming a branching fraction of 100% for the decay T→tZ, a T quark with a mass less than 475GeV/c 2 is excluded at the 95% confidence level.0info:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Measurement of the weak mixing angle with the Drell-Yan process in proton-proton collisions at the LHC

    No full text
A multivariate likelihood method to measure electroweak couplings with the Drell-Yan process at the LHC is presented. The process is described by the dilepton rapidity, invariant mass, and decay angle distributions. The decay angle ambiguity due to the unknown assignment of the scattered constituent quark and antiquark to the two protons in a collision is resolved statistically using correlations between the observables. The method is applied to a sample of dimuon events from proton-proton collisions at √s=7TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.1fb -1. From the dominant uū, dd̄→γ */Z→μ -μ + process, the effective weak mixing angle parameter is measured to be sin2θ eff=0.2287±0.0020(stat.)±0.0025(syst.). This result is consistent with measurements from other processes, as expected within the standard model.0CMS Collaborationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Measurement of the tt̄ production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7TeV in dilepton final states containing a τ

    No full text
The top quark pair production cross section is measured in dilepton events with one electron or muon, and one hadronically decaying τ lepton from the decay tt̄→(ν)(τ hν τ)bb̄, (=e,μ). The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.0fb -1 for the electron channel and 2.2fb -1 for the muon channel, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. This is the first measurement of the tt̄ cross section explicitly including τ leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=7TeV. The measured value σ tt̄=143±14(stat)±22(syst)±3(lumi)pb is consistent with the standard model predictions.0CMS Collaborationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
