The power spectrum of solar convection flows from high-resolution observations and 3D simulations

We compare Fourier spectra of photospheric velocity fields from very high resolution IMaX observations to those from recent 3D numerical magnetoconvection models. We carry out a proper comparison by synthesizing spectral lines from the numerical models and then applying to them the adequate residual instrumental degradation that affects the observational data. Also, the validity of the usual observational proxies is tested by obtaining synthetic observations from the numerical boxes and comparing the velocity proxies to the actual velocity values from the numerical grid. For the observations, data from the SUNRISE/IMaX instrument with about 120 km spatial resolution are used, thus allowing the calculation of observational Fourier spectra well into the subgranular range. For the simulations, we use four series of runs obtained with the STAGGER code and synthesize the IMaX spectral line (FeI 5250.2 A) from them. Proxies for the velocity field are obtained via Dopplergrams (vertical component) and local correlation tracking (horizontal component). A very good match between observational and simulated Fourier power spectra is obtained for the vertical velocity data for scales between 200 km and 6 Mm. Instead, a clear vertical shift is obtained when the synthetic observations are not degraded. The match for the horizontal velocity data is much less impressive because of the inaccuracies of the LCT procedure. Concerning the internal comparison of the direct velocity values of the numerical boxes with those from the synthetic observations, a high correlation (0.96) is obtained for the vertical component when using the velocity values on the log(tau500tau_{500}) = -1 surface in the box. The corresponding Fourier spectra are near each other. A lower maximum correlation (0.5) is reached (at tau500tau_{500} = 1) for the horizontal velocities as a result of the coarseness of the LCT procedure.Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, accepted in A&

Green City or Urban Countryside?; An Analytic Review of the Urban Sprawl Phenomenon in the Algerian City N’Gaous

Urban sprawl is a global phenomena in which a city expands and suffocates its surrounding countryside. These two indivisible entities coexist in a field that juxtaposes and composes urban and rural traits according to their respective modalities. Sociologically rural and economically urban, N\u27Gaous orchard city par excellence, located in the heart of the Aures and characterized by its apricot trees, has experienced an astounding spatial expansion over the last 60 years, establishing a strong presence in its territory, solidifying its service, and reaffirming its attraction. Its land area expanded by more than ten times (from 33.7 to 379.7 hectares), while the population increased by more than six times (from 4,887 to 33,515 persons ). The fast growth of its urban sprawl creates a number of issues, the most serious of which are these peri-urban orchards. The goal of this article is to investigate urban growth and urbanization in N\u27Gaous, Algeria. The purpose is to ascertain the effects of urban expansion on peri-urban agricultural land, the primary economic activity in the area, and to chart its evolution. Accordingly, the article employs an analytical approach to assess the agronomic potential of soils in order to quantify and monitor the agricultural potential consumed by the construction. This method is supported by the use of Geographic Information Systems as a decision support tool for spatializing the city\u27s growth. The focus of the article is not merely to avoid urban expansion, but to achieve the optimal agri-urban balance feasible. Hence, it will serve as a demonstration that the urban future is fashioned with the inherent potential to guide growth via the use of land assets

    Objective functions with redundant domains

Let (E,A) be a set system consisting of a finite collection A of subsets of a ground set E, and suppose that we have a function ϕ which maps A into some set S. Now removing a subset K from E gives a restriction A(K¯) to those sets of A disjoint from K, and we have a corresponding restriction ϕ|A(K¯) of our function ϕ. If the removal of K does not affect the image set of ϕ, that is Im(ϕ|A(X¯))=Im(ϕ), then we will say that K is a kernel set of A with respect to ϕ. Such sets are potentially useful in optimisation problems defined in terms of ϕ. We will call the set of all subsets of E that are kernel sets with respect to ϕ a kernel system and denote it by Kerϕ(A). Motivated by the optimisation theme, we ask which kernel systems are matroids. For instance, if A is the collection of forests in a graph G with coloured edges and ϕ counts how many edges of each colour occurs in a forest then Kerϕ(A) is isomorphic to the disjoint sum of the cocycle matroids of the differently coloured subgraphs; on the other hand, if A is the power set of a set of positive integers, and ϕ is the function which takes the values 1 and 0 on subsets according to whether they are sum-free or not, then we show that Kerϕ(A) is essentially never a matroid

The Mediterranean constitutes today one of the regions most marked by the displacement of persons, individual and collective migrations and is thus characterized by the pluralingualism, multiculturalism, social and cultural diversity. In this perspective, languages play a primordial role. They are the medium of the mutual experiences, intellectual and cultural environments, systems of values, and social codes. They are actually the media of the feeling of close, social relationships at the collective as well as individual levels. This is particularly true for Algeria, a pluralinguist society whose linguistic area could be described by the coexistence of several linguistic varieties from the Berber substratum to the various foreign languages via Arabic, vector of Islamization and Arabization of north Africa. Finally, this linguistic and cultural diversity calls, within the framework of intercultural dialogue of the Mediterranean region, for media diversity.

There is a reasonable number of documents on the design of hospitals and related buildings, and even on mental health facilities, but there are no psychological benefits studies for the basic design elements that are mandatory in mental health institutions. This work analyzes different aspects of ambient design dealing with seemingly minor interior choices such as texture, color, sounds / noises, decoration, and all the elements that create a mood. In doing so, we should be able to see how design decisions can affect patients’ health outcomes and prove that spatial ambiences can be used to improve health, and mental health in particular. For this, a field study was conducted on a sample chosen at the Er Rasi psychiatric hospital in Annaba, in Algeria, as well as the neurology department at the Annaba University Hospital. These two categories of patients are extremely reactive and receptive to the atmosphere of the space that surrounds them, a key factor that motivated our choice. Interdisciplinary and trans-sensorial aspects, common to analysis and design, rooted in the concept of spatial atmosphere, encourage us to use the NICT (New Information and Communication Technologies) as a tool for the creation of an interactive living space evolving in real time capable of spontaneously modifying the physical properties of space, depending on the environment, to serve as a therapy for depressed people in a psychiatric environment.

Production of laccase without inducer by Chaetomium species isolated from Chettaba forest situated in the East of Algeria

A positive laccase strain which showed a positive reaction with guaïacol was isolated from Chettaba Forest, which is situated in Constantine, the East of Algeria. It was identified as Chaetomium species (Ref 051A) according to the morphological and ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) DNA genomic sequence analysis. Laccase activity was determined by using 2,2-azinobis(3- ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonate) diammonium salt (ABTS) as a substrate. Its highest activity was achieved by using potato dextrose broth (PDB) as a culture medium. Metal ion CuSO4 had no positive effect on laccase production. The laccase activity obtained in submerged fermentation (20 L) was higher than that produced in Erlenmeyer flask (500 ml). The study of pH and temperature effects showed that pH optimum was 5 and 6, and temperature was 35°C. Laccase produced by Chaetomium spp. can be used in industrial production. Keywords: Chaetomium species, guaïcol, laccase, 2,2-azinobis(3- ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonate) diammonium salt (ABTS), submerged fermentatio
