    LightNER: A Lightweight Tuning Paradigm for Low-resource NER via Pluggable Prompting

    Most NER methods rely on extensive labeled data for model training, which struggles in the low-resource scenarios with limited training data. Existing dominant approaches usually suffer from the challenge that the target domain has different label sets compared with a resource-rich source domain, which can be concluded as class transfer and domain transfer. In this paper, we propose a lightweight tuning paradigm for low-resource NER via pluggable prompting (LightNER). Specifically, we construct the unified learnable verbalizer of entity categories to generate the entity span sequence and entity categories without any label-specific classifiers, thus addressing the class transfer issue. We further propose a pluggable guidance module by incorporating learnable parameters into the self-attention layer as guidance, which can re-modulate the attention and adapt pre-trained weights. Note that we only tune those inserted module with the whole parameter of the pre-trained language model fixed, thus, making our approach lightweight and flexible for low-resource scenarios and can better transfer knowledge across domains. Experimental results show that LightNER can obtain comparable performance in the standard supervised setting and outperform strong baselines in low-resource settings.     Grass-livestock interaction: a critical review of current research progress

    IntroductionGrass-livestock interaction is of great value in maintaining ecological balance, regional economic development, and the sustainability of grassland husbandry, which has gained attention in recent years in both academia and practice, however, study on grass-livestock interaction possesses cognitive bias and gaps.MethodsThis study clarified the latest research progress and development trend in the grass-livestock interaction field by illuminating publication trend, cooperative network, keyword co-occurrence relationship, keyword clustering during 2000 to 2022 based on the Web of Science core database.ResultsThe results indicated that the annual number of publications in the grass-livestock interaction field showed a globally increasing with interdisciplinary and international collaboration, and the United States of America ranked firstly, followed by Brazil, England, Australia, China. Agricultural Research Service, the U.S. Department of Agricultures was the organization with the highest number of publications, and Rangeland Ecology & Management, Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, Grass and Forage Science were the top three journals. Furthermore, in terms of the temporal evolution, the research targeting the grass-livestock interaction mainly went through three stages: initial exploration period (2000–2011), to the period of rapid development (2012–2016) to transitional development period (2017–2022), and the notable existing keywords was Management, Livestock, Cattle, Vegetation, Growth, Soil. In terms of the structural composition, four broad divisions including mechanism of human activities, grassland resource monitoring and management, grassland livestock competition/adaptability, grassland land/soil research were identified. The results provide positive and objective insights into that grassland sustainability and grazing control through strengthening cross-disciplinary and cross-regional cooperation, and applying of standard methods based on evaluation system in the grass-livestock interaction field.DiscussionThe overall contribution of the work is provision of novel insight into the intellectual structure and temporal progression of grass-livestock interaction research at a macroscopic scale and the directions in which the field is headed currently

    Patients With Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Exhibit Deficits in Consummatory but Not Anticipatory Pleasure

    Background: Reward dysfunctions have been reported in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which implicates a high possibility of anhedonia for this disease. However, several components of anhedonia, such as consummatory and anticipatory pleasure, has not been substantially studied in OCD patients.Methods: The Chinese version of the Temporal Experience of Pleasure Scale (CV-TEPS) was used to evaluate both the consummatory and anticipatory pleasure in 130 OCD patients, 89 major depressive disorder (MDD) patients, and 95 healthy controls (HCs). The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were scored for assessing the severity of obsessive and compulsive symptoms and depressive symptoms, respectively. Analyses of covariance (ANCOVA) were used to compare the differences of anhedonia among the three groups with the severity of depression controlled. Regression analyses were also used to analyze the relationship between consummatory and anticipatory pleasure and clinical variables in OCD patients.Results: After controlling for the effect of depression, there were significant differences in TEPS scores among the three groups (p < 0.05). Compared with HCs, OCD patients had lower scores on the consummatory subscale, but not the anticipatory subscale, of the TEPS. MDD patients had lower scores on both the consummatory and anticipatory subscales than HCs.Conclusion: OCD patients exhibit deficits in consummatory but not anticipatory pleasure, which is distinct from MDD patients

    Unleashing novel horizons in advanced prostate cancer treatment: investigating the potential of prostate specific membrane antigen-targeted nanomedicine-based combination therapy

    Prostate cancer (PCa) is a prevalent malignancy with increasing incidence in middle-aged and older men. Despite various treatment options, advanced metastatic PCa remains challenging with poor prognosis and limited effective therapies. Nanomedicine, with its targeted drug delivery capabilities, has emerged as a promising approach to enhance treatment efficacy and reduce adverse effects. Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) stands as one of the most distinctive and highly selective biomarkers for PCa, exhibiting robust expression in PCa cells. In this review, we explore the applications of PSMA-targeted nanomedicines in advanced PCa management. Our primary objective is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge nanomedicine research and clinical practice, making it accessible to the medical community. We discuss mainstream treatment strategies for advanced PCa, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy, in the context of PSMA-targeted nanomedicines. Additionally, we elucidate novel treatment concepts such as photodynamic and photothermal therapies, along with nano-theragnostics. We present the content in a clear and accessible manner, appealing to general physicians, including those with limited backgrounds in biochemistry and bioengineering. The review emphasizes the potential benefits of PSMA-targeted nanomedicines in enhancing treatment efficiency and improving patient outcomes. While the use of PSMA-targeted nano-drug delivery has demonstrated promising results, further investigation is required to comprehend the precise mechanisms of action, pharmacotoxicity, and long-term outcomes. By meticulous optimization of the combination of nanomedicines and PSMA ligands, a novel horizon of PSMA-targeted nanomedicine-based combination therapy could bring renewed hope for patients with advanced PCa

    Molecular cloning and preliminary function study of iron responsive element binding protein 1 gene from cypermethrin-resistant Culex pipiens pallens

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Insecticide resistance jeopardizes the control of mosquito populations and mosquito-borne disease control, which creates a major public health concern. Two-dimensional electrophoresis identified one protein segment with high sequence homology to part of <it>Aedes aegypti </it>iron-responsive element binding protein (IRE-BP).</p> <p>Method</p> <p>RT-PCR and RACE (rapid amplification of cDNA end) were used to clone a cDNA encoding full length IRE-BP 1. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR was used to evaluate the transcriptional level changes in the Cr-IRE strain <it>Aedes aegypti </it>compared to the susceptible strain of <it>Cx. pipiens pallens</it>. The expression profile of the gene was established in the mosquito life cycle. Methyl tritiated thymidine (<sup>3</sup>H-TdR) was used to observe the cypermethrin resistance changes in C6/36 cells containing the stably transfected IRE-BP 1 gene of <it>Cx. pipiens pallens</it>.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The complete sequence of iron responsive element binding protein 1 (IRE-BP 1) has been cloned from the cypermethrin-resistant strain of <it>Culex pipiens pallens </it>(Cr-IRE strain). Quantitative RT-PCR analysis indicated that the IRE-BP 1 transcription level was 6.7 times higher in the Cr-IRE strain than in the susceptible strain of 4th instar larvae. The IRE-BP 1 expression was also found to be consistently higher throughout the life cycle of the Cr-IRE strain. A protein of predicted size 109.4 kDa has been detected by Western blotting in IRE-BP 1-transfected mosquito C6/36 cells. These IRE-BP 1-transfected cells also showed enhanced cypermethrin resistance compared to null-transfected or plasmid vector-transfected cells as determined by <sup>3</sup>H-TdR incorporation.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>IRE-BP 1 is expressed at higher levels in the Cr-IRE strain, and may confer some insecticide resistance in <it>Cx. pipiens pallens</it>.</p

    General Situation of Beryllium Ore Resources and Research Status of Mineral Processing Technology in China

    Beryllium resources in China are concentrated in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan and Yunnan, mainly including two types: granite pegmatite and aerogenetic hydrothermal vein. Associated beryllium resources are the majority, while beryllium consumption depends heavily on imports. Thus, strengthening the technical research on beneficiation and comprehensive utilization of domestic beryllium resources, realizing its efficient and reasonable development are significant measures to ensure the safety of those resources. This paper introduces the current situation of domestic beryllium resources, including general situation, types, distribution, development and utilization, mineral processing technology and reagents, expounds the core problems and solutions in the process of beryllium ore beneficiation, and puts forward that the research on new high-efficiency flotation reagents is the technical key to improve the beneficiation index of beryllium ore. Simultaneously, in view of the reality of low grade and multiple coassociated valuable components of beryllium ore in China, it is pointed out that the cascade comprehensive utilization of resources is an important direction for the development of beryllium ore beneficiation

    Decrease in temporal gyrus gray matter volume in first-episode, early onset schizophrenia: an MRI study.

    BACKGROUND: Loss of gray matter has been previously found in early-onset schizophrenic patients. However, there are no consistent findings between studies due to different methods used to measure grey matter volume/density and influences of confounding factors. METHODS: The volume of gray matter (GM) was measured in 29 first episode early-onset schizophrenia (EOS) and 34 well-matched healthy controls by using voxel-based morphometry (VBM). Psychotic symptoms were assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). The correlations between the GM volume and PANSS scores, age of psychosis onset, duration of psychosis, and chlorpromazine (CPZ) equivalent value were investigated. RESULTS: Relative to healthy subjects, the patients with first episode EOS showed significantly lower GM volume in the left middle and superior temporal gyrus. The loss of GM volume negatively correlated with PANSS-positive symptoms (p = 0.002), but not with PANSS-negative symptoms, PANSS-general psychopathology, and PANSS-total score. No significant correlation was found between GM volume and age of psychosis onset, duration of psychosis, and CPZ equivalent value. CONCLUSION: Patients with first episode EOS have evidence of reduced GM in the left middle and superior temporal gyrus. Structural abnormalities in the left middle and superior temporal gyrus may contribute to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia

    LC-MS/MS analysis and evaluation of the anti-inflammatory activity of components from BushenHuoxue decoction

    Context: BushenHuoxue decoction (BSHXD) is a Chinese medicine prescription, which is composed of nine Chinese medical materials, used to treat osteoarthritis (OA). Objective: This study develops sensitive and convenient LC-MS/MS methods to analyze chemical components from BSHXD, and assess the anti-inflammatory activities thereof. Materials and methods: The chemical composition from BSHXD water extract was qualitative analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS). Twelve reference compounds were analyzed by UPLC-ESI-MS/MS. Anti-inflammatory activities of target components were assessed by ELISA at 20 and 100 μg/mL. Results: It is the first time that 88 compounds were qualitatively identified from BSHXD, of which 12 with potential in treating OA according to the literature were quantified. Within BSHXD the contents of quercetin, isopsoralen, icarisideII, osthole, and isoimperatorin increased remarkably compared with those in single herb which make up BSHXD, the contents were 0.1999, 0.4634, 0.0928, 0.5364, and 0.1487 mg/g. ELISA data displayed that BSHXD and the five compounds mentioned inhibited the expressions of TNF-α, IL-6 and NO released from LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cell, with maximum inhibition rates of 104.05% (osthole, 100 μg/mL), 100.03% (osthole, 100 μg/mL), and 93.46% (isopsoralen, 20 μg/mL), respectively. Discussion and conclusion: Content changes of 12 compounds in BSHXD and single herbs which comprise the prescription were measured and analyzed. Contents of five compounds increased may be explained by solubilization between drugs and chemical reaction. ELISA results reported that the increased contents of the five compounds could inhibit expression of the inflammatory factors
