A Study On Correlation Between Fertility And Contraceptive Prevalence In Rural Community
Objectives: (1) To find the contraceptive prevalence in different reproductive age group females. (2) What is the correlation between fertility pattern and contraceptive prevalence. Study Design : Cross sectional descriptive study. Setting : Community Development block Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow district. Study universe : Married females in reproductive age group (15-49 Years). Study variables : Age, fertility, contraceptive prevalence, education and social class. Statistical analysis : Chi Square test. Result : Contraceptive prevalence was 29.7%. It was 6.5% for women aged 15-19 year to 45.2% for women aged 3539 years. The acceptors were analyzed based on the number of living children. 74% of the acceptors had 3 or more children as against 26% with 0 to 2 living children
Clinico-physiological profile of patients of pulmonary impairment after tuberculosis at a tertiary care centre
Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a unique infectious disease that more often results in permanent structural changes in the lung parenchyma. It is by virtue of these changes that the patients even after bacteriological cure continue to suffer the after effects of the disease. Objective of study was to assess the clinico-physiological profile of patients of pulmonary impairment after tuberculosis (PIAT) attending S. N. Medical College, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.Methods: Over the time period of 2 years, 350 patients of healed pulmonary tuberculosis were identified and studied about their clinico-physiological profile. This profile included age, sex, category of treatment, pulmonary function test pattern, exercising capacity, exercise tolerance and quality of life.Results: It was found that majority of the patients were males, >60 years of age and had taken Category-II treatment. Most of the patients were having an obstructive pattern on PFT, poor exercise tolerance and exercise capacity and a poor quality of life.Conclusions: Patients of healed pulmonary TB continue to experience respiratory symptoms owing to the permanent anatomical changes in the lung conferred by the disease

Impact of sintering temperature on room temperature magneto-resistive and magneto-caloric properties of Pr2/3Sr1/3MnO3
Magneto-resistive and magneto-caloric properties of polycrystalline
Pr2/3Sr1/3MnO3 have been studied as a function of sintering temperature (Ts)
between 1260-1450{\deg}C. Reitveld refinement of their X-ray diffraction (XRD)
patterns confirms their single phase crystalline structure with orthorhombic
Pbnm space group. The point of maximum value of temperature coefficient of
resistance (TCRmax) and Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with Ts.
Magneto-resistance (MR) and magnetic entropy ({\Delta}SM) increased markedly
with sintering temperature. This could be attributed to the observed sharpness
of both the magnetic and resistive transitions due to better grain
connectivity. Optimum results are obtained for the sample with Ts =
1400{\deg}C. MR at Tc of the same is found to be as large as 32% at 1T and 58%
at 5T magnetic fields. The maximum entropy change ({\Delta}SMmax) near its Tc
is 2.3Jkg-1K-1 and 7.8 Jkg-1K-1 upon 1T and 5T fields change respectively.
These characteristics [MR (32% 1T, 58% 5T) and reasonable change in magnetic
entropy (7.8Jkg-1K-1, 5T)] generate possibility that the optimized compound can
be used as a potential magnetic refrigerant close to room temperature.Comment: 19 pages text + fig
Growth of carbon nanotubes on quasicrystalline alloys
We report on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes on quasicrystalline alloys.
Aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) on the conducting faces of
decagonal quasicrystals were synthesized using floating catalyst chemical vapor
deposition. The alignment of the nanotubes was found perpendicular to the
decagonal faces of the quasicrystals. A comparison between the growth and tube
quality has also been made between tubes grown on various quasicrystalline and
SiO2 substrates. While a significant MWNT growth was observed on decagonal
quasicrystalline substrate, there was no significant growth observed on
icosahedral quasicrystalline substrate. Raman spectroscopy and high resolution
transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results show high crystalline nature
of the nanotubes. Presence of continuous iron filled core in the nanotubes
grown on these substrates was also observed, which is typically not seen in
MWNTs grown using similar process on silicon and/or silicon dioxide substrates.
The study has important implications for understanding the growth mechanism of
MWNTs on conducting substrates which have potential applications as heat sinks
Multi-wavelength Diagnostics of the Precursor and Main phases of an M1.8 Flare on 2011 April 22
We study the temporal, spatial and spectral evolution of the M1.8 flare,
which occurred in NOAA AR 11195 (S17E31) on 22 April 2011, and explore the
underlying physical processes during the precursors and their relation to the
main phase. The study of the source morphology using the composite images in
131 {\deg}A wavelength observed by the SDO/AIA and 6-14 keV revealed a
multiloop system that destabilized systematically during the precursor and main
phases. In contrast, HXR emission (20-50 keV) was absent during the precursor
phase, appearing only from the onset of the impulsive phase in the form of
foot-points of emitting loop/s. This study has also revealed the heated
loop-top prior to the loop emission, although no accompanying foot-point
sources were observed during the precursor phase. We estimate the flare plasma
parameters viz. T, EM, power-law index, and photon turn-over energy by forward
fitting RHESSI spectral observations. The energy released in the precursor
phase was thermal and constituted ~1 per cent of the total energy released
during the flare. The study of morphological evolution of the filament in
conjunction with synthesized T and EM maps has been carried out which reveals
(a) Partial filament eruption prior to the onset of the precursor emission, (b)
Heated dense plasma over the polarity inversion line and in the vicinity of the
slowly rising filament during the precursor phase. Based on the implications
from multi-wavelength observations, we propose a scheme to unify the energy
release during the precursor and main phase emissions in which, the precursor
phase emission has been originated via conduction front formed due to the
partial filament eruption. Next, the heated leftover S-shaped filament has
undergone slow rise and heating due to magnetic reconnection and finally

A STUDY OF RECOVERY FROM GENERAL ANAESTHESIA AFTER PREOPERATIVE ADMINISTRATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL
ABSTRACT Antimicrobials are used prophylactily in any major surgery to cover perioperative wound infection and other infectious complication ,that may have interaction with muscle relaxant used for general anesthesia and the aim of our study is drug interaction and behavioural response of newly introduced antibiotics used with rocuronium. Gentamicin shortened onset and duration of block after intubating dose of rocuronium and also prolonged duration of extubation after last dose of rocuronium where as meropenem and ceftriaxone did not alter onset, duration and recovery characterstics of rocuronium. . From our study we can conclude that meropenem and ceftriaxone but not gentamicin, can be used safely during general anesthesia. The near ideal muscle relaxant must span the range of short, intermediate and long acting duration (as required by surgical procedure),have rapid onset, be highly metabolized, have no cumulative or cardiovascular effect, to be independent of kidney for elimination, and be easily antagonized. The most commonly used clinical agentsatracurium, doxacurium, vecuronium, pancuronium and pipecuronium-demonstrate some, but not all, of these properties.
