Lepton flavour violating decay of 125 GeV Higgs boson to channel and excess in
A recent search for the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays of the Higgs
boson, performed by CMS collaboration, reports an interesting deviation from
the standard model (SM). The search conducted in the channel and shows an excess of
signal events with 19.7 fb data at a center-of-mass energy
TeV. On the other hand, a search performed by CMS collaboration for
the SM Higgs boson produced in association with a top quark pair ()
also showed an excess in the same-sign di-muon final state. In this work we try
to find out if these two seemingly uncorrelated excesses are related or not.
Our analysis reveals that a lepton flavour violating Higgs decay
() can partially explain the excess in the same sign
di-muon final state in the search, infact brings down the excess
well within 2 error of the SM expectation. Probing such non-standard
Higgs boson decay is of interest and might contain hints of new physics at the
electroweak scale.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures and 3 table

AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY ON PRAMEHA (DIABETES MELLITUS) IN KOLKATA
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most leading causes of death and disability worldwide among the lifestyle disorders where dietary and lifestyle factors play a major role. Prameha is a classical metabolic disorder of tissue and cellular level. Unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are the leading causes of the lifestyle disorders; Prameha is also among them as mentioned by Acharya Charaka. A survey study was carried out to study the prevalence of Prameha patients and associated risk factors in the light of epidemiological aspect. 120 diabetic patients from OPD of Institute of Post Graduate Ayurvedic Education and Research, Kolkata, were selected randomly according to their registered address as residents of Kolkata. A survey proforma along with consent form was prepared and detailed history of each patient fulfilling the subjective criteria of Prameha and objective criteria of Diabetes Mellitus were taken. On considering data of Santarpana nidana, maximum patients were taking excess carbohydrate (90%); dairy products (82.5%); fried and fatty diet (68.33%); sweets and sugarcane preparations (79.16%); junk and fast foods (82.5%) in excessive quantity and 51.66% patient were found to be with increased BMI. Factors observed related to lifestyle are Divaswapna (60%) and Asyasukham (65%). Udvega (stress) were found in 88.33% of patients. This study revealed that prevalence of carbohydrate rich diet; dairy products; junk food and increased BMI are found dominant in diabetes patients in Kolkata. Avoidance of these faulty dietary habits and sedentary lifestyle, further progression of the diabetes along with its complications can be inhibited
Carboxylated acyclonucleosides: synthesis and RNase A inhibition
Strategically designed carboxylated acyclonucleosides have been probed as a new class of RNase A inhibitors. Several experimental and theoretical studies have been performed to compile relevant qualitative and quantitative information regarding the nature and extent of inhibition. The inhibition constant (Ki) values were determined using a UV-based kinetics experiment. The changes in the secondary structure of the enzyme upon binding with the inhibitors were obtained from circular dichroism studies. The binding constants for enzyme-inhibitor interactions were determined with the help of fluorescence spectroscopy. Docking studies were performed to reveal the possible binding sites of the inhibitors within the enzyme. The cytosine analogues were found to possess better inhibitory properties in comparison to the corresponding uracil derivatives. An increment in the number of carboxylic acid groups (-COOH) in the inhibitor backbone was found to result in better inhibition
The Troubling Emergence of Hallucination in Large Language Models -- An Extensive Definition, Quantification, and Prescriptive Remediations
The recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have garnered
widespread acclaim for their remarkable emerging capabilities. However, the
issue of hallucination has parallelly emerged as a by-product, posing
significant concerns. While some recent endeavors have been made to identify
and mitigate different types of hallucination, there has been a limited
emphasis on the nuanced categorization of hallucination and associated
mitigation methods. To address this gap, we offer a fine-grained discourse on
profiling hallucination based on its degree, orientation, and category, along
with offering strategies for alleviation. As such, we define two overarching
orientations of hallucination: (i) factual mirage (FM) and (ii) silver lining
(SL). To provide a more comprehensive understanding, both orientations are
further sub-categorized into intrinsic and extrinsic, with three degrees of
severity - (i) mild, (ii) moderate, and (iii) alarming. We also meticulously
categorize hallucination into six types: (i) acronym ambiguity, (ii) numeric
nuisance, (iii) generated golem, (iv) virtual voice, (v) geographic erratum,
and (vi) time wrap. Furthermore, we curate HallucInation eLiciTation (HILT), a
publicly available dataset comprising of 75,000 samples generated using 15
contemporary LLMs along with human annotations for the aforementioned
categories. Finally, to establish a method for quantifying and to offer a
comparative spectrum that allows us to evaluate and rank LLMs based on their
vulnerability to producing hallucinations, we propose Hallucination
Vulnerability Index (HVI). We firmly believe that HVI holds significant value
as a tool for the wider NLP community, with the potential to serve as a rubric
in AI-related policy-making. In conclusion, we propose two solution strategies
for mitigating hallucinations
NMR Derived Model of GTPase Effector Domain (GED) Self Association: Relevance to Dynamin Assembly
Self-association of dynamin to form spiral structures around lipidic vesicles during endocytosis is largely mediated by its ‘coiled coil’ GTPase Effector Domain (GED), which, in vitro, self-associates into huge helical assemblies. Residue-level structural characterizations of these assemblies and understanding the process of association have remained a challenge. It is also impossible to get folded monomers in the solution phase. In this context, we have developed here a strategy to probe the self-association of GED by first dissociating the assembly using Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) and then systematically monitoring the refolding into helix and concomitant re-association using NMR spectroscopy, as DMSO concentration is progressively reduced. The short segment, Arg109 - Met116, acts as the nucleation site for helix formation and self-association. Hydrophobic and complementary charge interactions on the surfaces drive self-association, as the helices elongate in both the directions resulting in an antiparallel stack. A small N-terminal segment remains floppy in the assembly. Following these and other published results on inter-domain interactions, we have proposed a plausible mode of dynamin self assembly
Did Anything Good Come Out of the Pandemic? COVID-19-Stress Induced Self-Regulatory Sustainable Apparel Consumption among the Millennials in the U.S.
Based on the theoretical frameworks of cognitive dissonance theory, regulatory focus theory, and the compensatory consumer behavior model, we proposed and tested a conceptual model delineating the relationships between COVID-19-stress, commitment to the environment, and intentions for sustainable apparel consumption in terms of intentions for purchasing sustainable apparel and divesting apparel (e.g., handing down or donating apparel). Conducting an online survey (n = 312) with the national millennial population of the U.S., we found that COVID-19-stress positively influenced (i) commitment to the environment and (ii) purchase intentions for sustainable apparel; commitment to the environment positively influenced (iii) purchase intentions for sustainable apparel and (iv) intentions for divesting apparel. Although COVID-19-stress did not influence intentions for divesting apparel directly, commitment to the environment mediated the relationships between COVID-19-stress and both purchase intentions for sustainable apparel and intentions for divesting apparel. We suggest that COVID-19-stress triggered self-regulatory sustainable apparel consumption intentions due to a heightened commitment to the environment to protect the environment amid the pandemic. Based on the findings of our study, we recommend the sustainable apparel brands and marketers promote how sustainable apparel consumption can protect the environment to make the environment and human beings less susceptible to the future outbreaks of pandemics
