Interaction of a quantum dot with an incompressible two-dimensional electron gas
We consider a system of a incompressible quantum Hall liquid in close
proximity to a parabolic quantum dot containing a few electrons. We observe a
significant influence of the interacting electrons in the dot on the excitation
spectrum of the incompressible state in the electron plane. Our calculated
charge density indicates that unlike in the case of an impurity, interacting
electrons in the dot seem to confine the fractionally charged excitations in
the incompressible liquid.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Spin Hot Spots in vertically-coupled Few-electron Quantum Dots
The effects of spin-orbit (SO) coupling arising from the confinement
potential in single and two vertically-coupled quantum dots have been
investigated. Our work indicates that a dot containing a single electron shows
the lifting of the degeneracy of dipole-allowed transitions at B=0 due to the
SO coupling which disappears for a dot containing two electrons. For coupled
dots with one electron in each dot, the optical spectra is not affected by the
coupling and is the same as the dot containing one electron. However, for the
case of two coupled dots where one partner dot has two interacting electrons
while the other dot has only one electron, a remarkable effect is observed
where the oscillator strength of two out of four dipole-allowed transition
lines disappears as the distance between the dots is decreased
Imbalanced Ensemble Classifier for learning from imbalanced business school data set
Private business schools in India face a common problem of selecting quality
students for their MBA programs to achieve the desired placement percentage.
Generally, such data sets are biased towards one class, i.e., imbalanced in
nature. And learning from the imbalanced dataset is a difficult proposition.
This paper proposes an imbalanced ensemble classifier which can handle the
imbalanced nature of the dataset and achieves higher accuracy in case of the
feature selection (selection of important characteristics of students) cum
classification problem (prediction of placements based on the students'
characteristics) for Indian business school dataset. The optimal value of an
important model parameter is found. Numerical evidence is also provided using
Indian business school dataset to assess the outstanding performance of the
proposed classifier
Curve Crossing Problems: Analytically solvable model
We propose an exactly solvable model for the two state curve crossing
problems. Our model assumes the coupling to be a delta function. It is used to
calculate the effect of curve crossing on electronic absorption spectrum and
resonance Raman excitation profile.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
