Open orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of [C^3/Z_n]: localization and mirror symmetry
We develop a mathematical framework for the computation of open orbifold
Gromov-Witten invariants of [C^3/Z_n], and provide extensive checks with
predictions from open string mirror symmetry. To this aim we set up a
computation of open string invariants in the spirit of Katz-Liu, defining them
by localization. The orbifold is viewed as an open chart of a global quotient
of the resolved conifold, and the Lagrangian as the fixed locus of an
appropriate anti-holomorphic involution. We consider two main applications of
the formalism. After warming up with the simpler example of [C^3/Z_3], where we
verify physical predictions of Bouchard, Klemm, Marino and Pasquetti, the main
object of our study is the richer case of [C^3/Z_4], where two different
choices are allowed for the Lagrangian. For one choice, we make numerical
checks to confirm the B-model predictions; for the other, we prove a mirror
theorem for orbifold disc invariants, match a large number of annulus
invariants, and give mirror symmetry predictions for open string invariants of

Manejo químico de plantas daninhas tolerantes ao glyphosate em algodoeiro roundup ready flex
Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o controle de plantas daninhas tolerantes ao glyphosate por meio de diferentes sistemas de manejo químico em algodoeiro Roundup Ready Flex (RF). O experimento está sendo conduzido na área experimental do Instituto Mato-grossense do Algodão localizada no município de Sorriso-MT. A semeadura do algodoeiro cv. IMA 5675BG2RF foi realizada no espaçamento entrelinhas de 0,90 m com população de 90.000 plantas ha -1 . Os tratamentos foram constituidos pela aplicação de glyphosate (1.080 g e.a. ha -1 ), pyrithiobac-sodium (50,4 g i..a. ha -1 ) e trifloxysulfuron-sodium (3,75 g i.a. ha -1 ) em pós-emergência, de forma isolada ou associada aos 15, 35 e 55 dias após a semeadura (DAS) da cultura. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos completos casualizados, com três repetições. Aos 40 dias após a terceira aplicação em pósemergência, avaliaram-se variáveis relacionadas à fitotoxicidade (escala EWRC) dos tratamentos às plantas de algodoeiro e a porcentagem de controle das plantas (Euphorbia heterophylla, Richardia brasiliensis, Alternanthera tenella e Eleusine indica), por meio de notas visuais de 0 a 100%, em que zero representa ausência de injúrias e 100 a morte das plantas. Três aplicações de glyphosate realizadas aos 15, 35 e 55 DAS do algodoeiro RF apresentam controle satisfatório de todas as espécies infestantes, assim como a aplicação de glyphosate + trifloxysulfuron-sodium aos 15 DAS seguido de glyphosate aos 35 DAS e as associações glyphosate + pyrithiobac-sodium, glyphosate + trifloxysulfuron-sodium e pyrithiobac-sodium + trifloxysulfuron-sodium aplicadas aos 15 DAS seguidas de glyphosate aos 55 DAS. A associação tripla glyphosate + pyrithiobac-sodium + trifloxysulfuron-sodium aplicada aos 35 DAS proporciona excelente controle das plantas daninhas estudas após a aplicação de glyphosate isolado ou pyrithiobac-sodium + trifloxysulfuron-sodium aos 15 DAS

Characterizing horizontal variability and energy spectra in the Arctic Ocean halocline
Energy transfer from the atmosphere into the upper Arctic Ocean is expected to become more efficient as summer sea-ice coverage decreases and multiyear ice thins due to recent atmospheric warming. However, relatively little is known about how energy is transferred within the ocean by turbulent processes from large to small scales in the presence of ice and how these pathways might change in future. This study characterises horizontal variability in several regions of the Eurasian Arctic Ocean under differing sea-ice conditions. Historic along track CTD data collected by a Royal Navy submarine during summer 1996 allows a unique examination of horizontal variability and associated wavenumber spectra within the Arctic Ocean halocline. Spectral analysis indicates that potential energy variance under perennial sea-ice in the Amundsen Basin is O(100) less than within the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) of Fram Strait. Spectra from all regions show a transition in scaling at wavelengths of approximately 5 to 7 km. At scales greater than the transition wavelength to 50 km, energy spectra are consistent with a k-3 scaling (where k is wavenumber) and interior quasi-geostrophic dynamics. The scaling of spectra at these scales is extremely similar between regions suggesting similar dynamics and energy exchange pathways. The k-3 scaling is steeper than typically found in regions of mid latitude open ocean. At scales below the transition wavelength to 300 m, spectra are close to a k-5/3 scaling or flatter, indicating a change in dynamics, which is potentially due to internal waves dominating variability at small scales

Ectopic hbox12 Expression Evoked by Histone Deacetylase Inhibition Disrupts Axial Specification of the Sea Urchin Embryo
Dorsal/ventral patterning of the sea urchin embryo depends upon the establishment of a Nodal-expressing ventral organizer. Recently, we showed that spatial positioning of this organizer relies on the dorsal-specific transcription of the Hbox12 repressor. Building on these findings, we determined the influence of the epigenetic milieu on the expression of hbox12 and nodal genes. We find that Trichostatin-A, a potent and selective histone-deacetylases inhibitor, induces histone hyperacetylation in hbox12 chromatin, evoking broad ectopic expression of the gene. Transcription of nodal concomitantly drops, prejudicing dorsal/ventral polarity of the resulting larvae. Remarkably, impairing hbox12 function, either in a spatially-restricted sector or in the whole embryo, specifically rescues nodal transcription in Trichostatin-A-treated larvae. Beyond strengthen the notion that nodal expression is not allowed in the presence of functional Hbox12 in the same cells, these results highlight a critical role of histone deacetylases in regulating the spatial expression of hbox12
Experimental study of turbulent-jet wave packets and their acoustic efficiency
This paper details the statistical and time-resolved analysis of the relationship between the near-field pressure fluctuations of unforced, subsonic free jets (0.4 ≤ M ≤ 0.6) and their far-field sound emissions. Near-field and far-field microphone measurements were taken on a conical array close to the jets and an azimuthal ring at 20∘ to the jet axis, respectively. Recent velocity and pressure measurements indicate the presence of linear wave packets in the near field by closely matching predictions from the linear homogenous parabolized stability equations, but the agreement breaks down both beyond the end of the potential core and when considering higher order statistical moments, such as the two-point coherence. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), interpreted in terms of inhomogeneous linear models using the resolvent framework allows us to understand these discrepancies. A new technique is developed for projecting time-domain pressure measurements onto a statistically obtained POD basis, yielding the time-resolved activity of each POD mode and its correlation with the far field. A single POD mode, interpreted as an optimal high-gain structure that arises due to turbulent forcing, captures the salient near-field–far-field correlation signature; further, the signatures of the next two modes, understood as suboptimally forced structures, suggest that these POD modes represent higher order, acoustically important near-field behavior. An existing Green's-function-based technique is used to make far-field predictions, and results are interpreted in terms of POD/resolvent modes, indicating the acoustic importance of this higher order behavior. Dynamic screening of a localized hole during photoemission from a metal cluster
Recent advances in attosecond spectroscopy techniques have fueled the
interest in the theoretical description of electronic processes taking place in
the subfemtosecond time scale. Here we study the coupled dynamic screening of a
localized hole and a photoelectron emitted from a metal cluster using a
semi-classical model. Electron density dynamics in the cluster is calculated
with Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory and the motion of the
photoemitted electron is described classically. We show that the dynamic
screening of the hole by the cluster electrons affects the motion of the
photoemitted electron. At the very beginning of its trajectory, the
photoemitted electron interacts with the cluster electrons that pile up to
screen the hole. Within our model, this gives rise to a significant reduction
of the energy lost by the photoelectron. Thus, this is a velocity dependent
effect that should be accounted for when calculating the average losses
suffered by photoemitted electrons in metals.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure
Lagrangian Floer superpotentials and crepant resolutions for toric orbifolds
We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials
for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we
study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which
states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold
and that of its toric crepant resolution coincide after
analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating
this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable
formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relations between open
(orbifold) Gromov-Witten invariants. We also discover a geometric explanation
(in terms of virtual counting of stable orbi-discs) for the specialization of
quantum parameters to roots of unity which appears in Y. Ruan's original CRC
["The cohomology ring of crepant resolutions of orbifolds", Gromov-Witten
theory of spin curves and orbifolds, 117-126, Contemp. Math., 403, Amer. Math.
Soc., Providence, RI, 2006]. We prove the open CRC for the weighted projective
spaces using an equality between open
and closed orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants. Along the way, we also prove an

Possible observation of parametrically amplified coherent phasons in K0.3MoO3 using time-resolved extreme-ultraviolet ARPES
We use time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (tr-ARPES) in the
Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) to measure the time- and momentum-dependent
electronic structure of photo-excited K0.3MoO3. Prompt depletion of the Charge
Density Wave (CDW) condensate launches coherent oscillations of the amplitude
mode, observed as a 1.7-THz-frequency modulation of the bonding band position.
In contrast, the anti-bonding band oscillates at about half this frequency. We
attribute these oscillations to coherent excitation of phasons via parametric
