Grassmann Integral Representation for Spanning Hyperforests
Given a hypergraph G, we introduce a Grassmann algebra over the vertex set,
and show that a class of Grassmann integrals permits an expansion in terms of
spanning hyperforests. Special cases provide the generating functions for
rooted and unrooted spanning (hyper)forests and spanning (hyper)trees. All
these results are generalizations of Kirchhoff's matrix-tree theorem.
Furthermore, we show that the class of integrals describing unrooted spanning
(hyper)forests is induced by a theory with an underlying OSP(1|2)

Explicit characterization of the identity configuration in an Abelian Sandpile Model
Since the work of Creutz, identifying the group identities for the Abelian
Sandpile Model (ASM) on a given lattice is a puzzling issue: on rectangular
portions of Z^2 complex quasi-self-similar structures arise. We study the ASM
on the square lattice, in different geometries, and a variant with directed
edges. Cylinders, through their extra symmetry, allow an easy determination of
the identity, which is a homogeneous function. The directed variant on square
geometry shows a remarkable exact structure, asymptotically self-similar.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure

Destruction of a protected habitat by an invasive alien species: the case of Cydalima perspectalis (Walker, 1859) in the box tree formations of Liguria (North-West Italy) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
The box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis (Walker, 1859), an invasive alien species of Asian origin associated with box trees, gained immediate attention in Europe due to the damage caused to ornamental stands and its rapid spread. However, its effects on natural box tree formations remained poorly investigated, especially in Southern Europe. In Liguria (North-West Italy), attacked xerotermophilous box tree formations on rocky substrate, a protected habitat (5110) after the Natura 2000 EU 92/43 Directive, seriously endangering its long-term survival. Since detection in 2013, this species defoliated almost the whole area covered by habitat 5110, until experiencing a population crash after depleting its only trophic resource. We present here the evolution of the invasion and the population dynamics of this invasive alien species in Liguria during the years 2016-2017
General duality for abelian-group-valued statistical-mechanics models
We introduce a general class of statistical-mechanics models, taking values
in an abelian group, which includes examples of both spin and gauge models,
both ordered and disordered. The model is described by a set of ``variables''
and a set of ``interactions''. A Gibbs factor is associated to each variable
and to each interaction. We introduce a duality transformation for systems in
this class. The duality exchanges the abelian group with its dual, the Gibbs
factors with their Fourier transforms, and the interactions with the variables.
High (low) couplings in the interaction terms are mapped into low (high)
couplings in the one-body terms. The idea is that our class of systems extends
the one for which the classical procedure 'a la Kramers and Wannier holds, up
to include randomness into the pattern of interaction. We introduce and study
some physical examples: a random Gaussian Model, a random Potts-like model, and
a random variant of discrete scalar QED. We shortly describe the consequence of

Only the best for my kids: An extended TPB model to understand mothers’ use of food labels
Despite the evidence that mothers’ food purchasing behavior impacts the quality of children's diet, few studies have explored psycho-social factors influencing how mothers choose the food to buy for their children. To fill this gap, this study tested an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model to predict mothers’ tendency to seek information on food labels before purchasing food for children. Participants included 311 Italian mothers who completed a self-report questionnaire measuring their information-seeking behavior, TPB variables, anticipated regret and healthy-eater identity. Results from a Multiple Correspondence Analysis showed that mothers’ information-seeking behavior involved a continuum of choices ranging from selecting conventional or prepackaged foods to choosing to read the food label before making a purchase. Besides, a Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling analysis showed that information-seeking behavior was positively predicted by intention (β = 0.309, p < 0.001) and healthy-eater identity (β = 0.195, p < 0.001). In turn, intention was positively affected by attitude (β = 0.208, p < 0.001), subjective norms (β = 0.155, p < 0.01), perceived behavioral control (β = 0.124, p < 0.05), anticipated regret (β = 0.193, p < 0.001), and healthy-eater identity (β = 0.191, p < 0.001). These findings emphasize that future initiatives could usefully target attitude, anticipated regret and self-identity to encourage mothers’ informed food choices for their children
Effect of Noise on Patterns Formed by Growing Sandpiles
We consider patterns generated by adding large number of sand grains at a
single site in an abelian sandpile model with a periodic initial configuration,
and relaxing. The patterns show proportionate growth. We study the robustness
of these patterns against different types of noise, \textit{viz.}, randomness
in the point of addition, disorder in the initial periodic configuration, and
disorder in the connectivity of the underlying lattice. We find that the
patterns show a varying degree of robustness to addition of a small amount of
noise in each case. However, introducing stochasticity in the toppling rules
seems to destroy the asymptotic patterns completely, even for a weak noise. We
also discuss a variational formulation of the pattern selection problem in
growing abelian sandpiles.Comment: 15 pages,16 figure

We reply to criticism by Patrascioiu and Seiler [hep-lat/9502019] of our
results [Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 1891 (1995), hep-lat/9411009] on asymptotic
scaling in the two-dimensional -model, which were based on a

A General Limitation on Monte Carlo Algorithms of Metropolis Type
We prove that for any Monte Carlo algorithm of Metropolis type, the
autocorrelation time of a suitable ``energy''-like observable is bounded below
by a multiple of the corresponding ``specific heat''. This bound does not
depend on whether the proposed moves are local or non-local; it depends only on
the distance between the desired probability distribution and the
probability distribution for which the proposal matrix satisfies
detailed balance. We show, with several examples, that this result is
