Performance monitoring of MPC based on dynamic principal component analysis
A unified framework based on the dynamic principal component analysis (PCA) is proposed for performance monitoring of constrained multi-variable model predictive control (MPC) systems. In the proposed performance monitoring framework, the dynamic PCA based performance benchmark is adopted for performance assessment, while performance diagnosis is carried out using a unified weighted dynamic PCA similarity measure. Simulation results obtained from the case study of the Shell process demonstrate that the use of the dynamic PCA performance benchmark can detect the performance deterioration more quickly compared with the traditional PCA method, and the proposed unified weighted dynamic PCA similarity measure can correctly locate the root cause for poor performance of MPC controller
A Game-theoretic Framework for Revenue Sharing in Edge-Cloud Computing System
We introduce a game-theoretic framework to ex- plore revenue sharing in an
Edge-Cloud computing system, in which computing service providers at the edge
of the Internet (edge providers) and computing service providers at the cloud
(cloud providers) co-exist and collectively provide computing resources to
clients (e.g., end users or applications) at the edge. Different from
traditional cloud computing, the providers in an Edge-Cloud system are
independent and self-interested. To achieve high system-level efficiency, the
manager of the system adopts a task distribution mechanism to maximize the
total revenue received from clients and also adopts a revenue sharing mechanism
to split the received revenue among computing servers (and hence service
providers). Under those system-level mechanisms, service providers attempt to
game with the system in order to maximize their own utilities, by strategically
allocating their resources (e.g., computing servers).
Our framework models the competition among the providers in an Edge-Cloud
system as a non-cooperative game. Our simulations and experiments on an
emulation system have shown the existence of Nash equilibrium in such a game.
We find that revenue sharing mechanisms have a significant impact on the
system-level efficiency at Nash equilibria, and surprisingly the revenue
sharing mechanism based directly on actual contributions can result in
significantly worse system efficiency than Shapley value sharing mechanism and
Ortmann proportional sharing mechanism. Our framework provides an effective
economics approach to understanding and designing efficient Edge-Cloud
computing systems
Tuning a binary ferromagnet into a multi-state synapse with spin-orbit torque induced plasticity
Inspired by ion-dominated synaptic plasticity in human brain, artificial
synapses for neuromorphic computing adopt charge-related quantities as their
weights. Despite the existing charge derived synaptic emulations, schemes of
controlling electron spins in ferromagnetic devices have also attracted
considerable interest due to their advantages of low energy consumption,
unlimited endurance, and favorable CMOS compatibility. However, a generally
applicable method of tuning a binary ferromagnet into a multi-state memory with
pure spin-dominated synaptic plasticity in the absence of an external magnetic
field is still missing. Here, we show how synaptic plasticity of a
perpendicular ferromagnetic FM1 layer can be obtained when it is
interlayer-exchange-coupled by another in-plane ferromagnetic FM2 layer, where
a magnetic-field-free current-driven multi-state magnetization switching of FM1
in the Pt/FM1/Ta/FM2 structure is induced by spin-orbit torque. We use current
pulses to set the perpendicular magnetization state which acts as the synapse
weight, and demonstrate spintronic implementation of the excitatory/inhibitory
postsynaptic potentials and spike timing-dependent plasticity. This
functionality is made possible by the action of the in-plane interlayer
exchange coupling field which leads to broadened, multi-state magnetic reversal
characteristics. Numerical simulations, combined with investigations of a
reference sample with a single perpendicular magnetized Pt/FM1/Ta structure,
reveal that the broadening is due to the in-plane field component tuning the
efficiency of the spin-orbit-torque to drive domain walls across a landscape of
varying pinning potentials. The conventionally binary FM1 inside our
Pt/FM1/Ta/FM2 structure with inherent in-plane coupling field is therefore
tuned into a multi-state perpendicular ferromagnet and represents a synaptic
emulator for neuromorphic computing.Comment: 37 pages with 11 figures, including 20 pages for manuscript and 17

A New Retail System Based on RFID and 3D Dense Face Alignment
Here we show a New Retail System based on Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) and 3D Dense Face Alignment(3DDFA). We found that by combining RFID and 3DDFA, goods can be located and recognized by RFID and customers can also be located through 3DDFA. For binding the goodsā positions with customersā positions together, we proposed a Fuzzy Matching Algorithm. It reaches an accuracy of 0.83 without interface. Through the algorithm, the New Retail System can detect the position of goods and customers in real time even with interference like goods stacking and customers wearing masks. Additionally, customersā preference for goods is also obtained through the algorithm. We anticipate our essay to be a starting point to apply RFID and 3DDFA to New Retail. For instance, we track the location of customers and goods in real time to facilitate monitoring and straightforward settlement
