    Get PDF

Developmental trajectories of pitch-related music skills in children with Williams syndrome

The study of music cognition in Williams syndrome (WS) has resulted in theoretical debates regarding cognitive modularity and development. However, no research has previously investigated the development of music skills in this population. In this study, we used the cross-sectional developmental trajectories approach to assess the development of pitch-related music skills in children with WS compared with typically developing (TD) peers. Thus, we evaluated the role of change over time on pitch-related music skills and the developmental relationships between music skills and different cognitive areas. In the TD children, the pitch-related music skills improved with chronological age and cognitive development. In the children with WS, developmental relationships were only found between several pitch-related music skills and specific cognitive processes. We also found non-systematic relationships between chronological age and the pitch-related music skills, stabilization in the level reached in music when cognitive development was considered, and uneven associations between cognitive and music skills. In addition, the TD and WS groups differed in their patterns of pitch-related music skill development. These results suggest that the development of pitch-related music skills in children with WS is atypical. Our findings stand in contrast with the views that claim innate modularity for music in WS; rather, they are consistent with neuroconstructivist accountsThis study was supported by Project Grant 2012V/PUNED/0008 from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Spai

From the three-phase grid, the batteries are charged through a three-level neutral-point-clamped ac-dc converter in cascade with a three-level dual active bridge converter. The system provides galvanic isolation and allows bidirectional power flow. A simple control strategy to charge the batteries is presented, based on the regulation of the commonand differential-mode components of the batteries’ charging currents. With this control approach, each battery bank can be charged independently, allowing it to reach full battery bank capacity, even under different battery initial state-of-charge values or different battery nominal capacities. Moreover, the proposed control system also regulates the total dc-link voltage and the dc-link voltage balance in both dc-links of the system. The simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed implementation and control system approach. This work was supported by the Ministerio de Economía, Competitividad, Spain, under Grant DPI2017-89153-P (AEI/FEDER, UE).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

From the three-phase grid, the batteries are charged through a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) ac-dc converter in cascade with a three-level NPC dualactive-bridge converter. The system provides galvanic isolation and allows bidirectional power flow. A simple control strategy to charge the batteries is considered, based on the regulation of the common- and differential-mode components of the batteries charging currents. In addition, the proposed control system regulates the total dc-link voltage and the dc-link voltage balance in the two systems dc-links. This work is particularly focused on the comparison of the charger performance under two competitive ac-dc converter modulations, in terms of the ac-side voltage harmonic content, the number of switching transitions, the dc-link voltage balance, and the charging current control capacity. Simulation results with the performance comparison are provided and the merits and demerits of each option are highlighted. This publication is part of Grant DPI2017-89153-P, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF A way of making Europe.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Communicating and Collaborating with Others through Digital Competence: A Self-Perception Study Based on Teacher Trainees’ Gender

Digital competence in teaching can be understood as the set of skills, attitudes and abilities to use technologies critically and creatively, both in the personal and professional environment. Likewise, it is one of the eight key competencies for lifelong learning. In this paper, in line with the Common Digital Competence Framework (DigComp), we analyze the self-perception of teacher trainees’ digital competence to communicate and collaborate with other people. Additionally, we state the existence of statistically significant differences from a gender perspective (women/men). In this sense, we have carried out non-experimental quantitative research that has a descriptive nature. To this end, we used a questionnaire as an instrument for collecting information, with a total sample of 698 pre-service teachers in Andalusia (Spain). The results show that teacher trainees have an intermediate level in terms of their abilities to communicate and collaborate with other people through digital technologies. At the same time, significant differences are highlighted regarding participants’ gender, which implies that gender can still be considered a limitation in the use of ICTs, thereby decreasing participants’ digital competence. Finally, this study sheds light on the need to improve future teachers’ digital competence.Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Spanish Government through the University Teacher Training Programme (F.P.U.) This study aims to analyze the impact of management variables (Service Quality, Perceived Value and General Satisfaction) and variables of disability itself (origin and type of disability) on the future intentions to attend again of disabled athletes. This is a particularly interesting study taking into account the limited existing literature, the inclusion of disability variables in the analysis and due to the combination of traditional regression models and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis models (fsQCA). The sample of this study consisted of 231 disabled athletes participating in 14 sports competitions during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. The hierarchical regression model suggests that management variables seem more relevant than those related to the disability itself. Meanwhile, based on the results of the fsQCA model, the only necessary condition for future intentions to return to the event is not having a visual impairment, while the most explanatory sufficient condition results from the combination of having a disability from birth, high perceived value, high general satisfaction and high service quality
