We examined the information disclosed in annual reports and corporate social responsibility reports from a sample of the companies listed on the Euronext Stock Exchange over a three-year period. The purpose of the research is to support the idea that the quality of social and environmental information provided by companies is increasing as time passes and in relation to the present economic conditions. We conducted an exploratory study whose results are analysed and discussed in terms of financial and economic evolution within the present world crisis. They give us the possibility to design a new facet of the overall framework for reporting social and environmental information by combining theoretical requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards with their implementation in the reporting practice of European companies.social, environmental, reporting, corporate responsibility, companiesâ practice

Recently, risk reporting has gained interest in financial reporting practice, regulation, and internationalresearch. Social and environmental reporting is seen to benefit shareholders more byreducing risk than by increasing return. The researchers showed that the annual report is themost favoured channel of disclosure, along with presentation to investors. The general messageis that, as far as annual reports go, quantified, verifiable disclosures have the most credibilityand relevance. Our paper is meant to develop an analysis of specific requirements regardingrisks and uncertainties reported into the financial statements according to different standards(US-GAAP, IFRS, and European Directives) and their connection to social and environmentalinformation that an entity should disclose. Education for sustainability â a prerequisite for post-crisis economic competitiveness with possible inference for Romania
The need to integrate sustainability among the skills of specialists in economics
and its accreditation for the university curricula was recognized in academic literature
for over twenty years. Based on literature review the study outlines the idea that although
there is significant interest in the concept of sustainability for economic education,
particularly for the accounting domain, as demonstrated by the wide range of topics dealt
with in a number of high quality journals, the dispersion is extremely high, the subjects
are not treated consistently and the research impact is not reflected in practice. The
paper presents then a documentary based research on the deepening the subjects
included in the curricula of masterâs programs in a number of European universities,
central or collateral dealing with aspects of sustainability. In the last part of the article a
study is depicted in order to present a picture of the possible involvement of Romanian
students, graduated of economic studies, regarding the aspects of sustainability
(environment, society and corporate responsibility), impacting the future evolution of the
Romanian economy
New Perspectives on Corporate Reporting: Social-Economic and Environmental Information
In recent times the demand for disclosure of listed companies has dramatically increased and the failures of large companies listed on the most important stock exchanges have placed extra pressure on listed companies and standard setters for the increase in the quality of corporate reporting (Beretta, Bozzolan, 2004, pp. 303-305). Our research aims the participation to the professional judgment construction through conducting a survey of existing studies on corporate socio-economic and environmental disclosure. We focus on fundamental research which is related to inductive accounting theory and uses scientific methods for identification of corporate reporting theoretical and practical difficulties in European and international economic entities. To accomplish our objective, we take into consideration the studies on socio-economic and environmental reporting, already conducted at European and international level, the financial reporting experience and the Romanian experience on this area. We analyze the status of development in corporate reporting and environmental reporting standards and focus on the issues requested and their implications. Also, the paper allows new approaches regarding quality information reporting and its implementation into entities financial statements, ensuring premises for future research

The need to integrate sustainability among the skills of
specialists in economics and its accreditation for the university curricula
was recognized in academic literature for over twenty years. Using the
literature review and documentation, the present paper identifies the key
factors in the assessment of the current state of the scientific research
and the practice of European universities. The prime responsibility is for
economic universities to adjust curricula to meet these demands. In this
sense, the paper constructs a debate on the organisation and the
projection of a strategy in developing the economic education towards
sustainability in higher economic education in Romania
