La crise du personnage dans "Elektra" de Richard Strauss et de Hugo von Hofmannsthal

Dans Elektra (1909), l opposition entre un poète raffiné qui défend une esthétique de la suggestion, et un compositeur terre à terre, attiré par le réalisme, se révèle dans toute sa complexité à travers le concept de personnage. Strauss accentue les caractéristiques principales du texte de Hofmannsthal, à savoir les contrastes et l atmosphère sombre, mais son orchestre massif engloutit le verbe du poète qui doit garantir la cohérence du personnage.
