Today, we have come to transact the business of this state in this historic chamber. Today we stand on the shoulders of many great leaders who have fought for the issues they championed. May we follow in their footsteps. Today we pray for Your gift of contentment, that we may not waste our time desiring more, but learn to use and enjoy what we have. We may not know everything, but we may know You and Your will. We need not be rich to be generous, nor have all wisdom to be understanding. Our influence may not be great, but it can be good. Our speech may not be eloquent, but it can be truthful and sincere. We cannot all have good looks, but we can have a good conscience, and having that, we shall have peace of mind and need fear no man. May we be kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as You, for Christ's sake, have forgiven us. AMEN. Pledge of allegiance to the Flag. might be forgiven for the evil that clings to us and to be raised from the dead, that we might be justified before You for the life to come and might dwell in Your eternal peace. You have ordained the governing authorities to subdue evil for this life and to promote what is good, that there might be justice in our world and peace for this life. We pray for Your blessing upon this Session of the Nevada State Senate. Grant to its members such character, honor and sense of purpose, that what they do might be a means to justice, security and peace for our State and its citizens. We ask for all these things according to Your will, praying in the Name of the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. AMEN. Happy Valentine’s Day! On this day that we celebrate the wonders of love, I’m reminded of Jesus ’ answer when a leader asked Him which was the greatest commandment. Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. ” (Matthew 22:37-40) Let us pray. O God, help us to always love in these two directions. Even now. Even here. AMEN. Pledge of allegiance to the Flag. Assemblyman Conklin moved that further reading of the Journal be dispensed with, and the Speaker and Chief Clerk be authorized to make the necessary corrections and additions. Motion carried

On this President's Day, I am reminded of something that President Lincoln is reported to have said. "Common-looking people are the best in the world; that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them. " Lord, as I look out over this room, I am convinced that we must be the best in the world! Well, we may be common-looking, but the tasks before us are anything but common. Please grant us the wisdom, patience, unity, and love to get it done. I pray in the Name of the Savior we need. AMEN. Here we are on our last Thursday of this session. The day is named after the Norse god Thor who was the god of sky and thunder. Well, confined in this building, we haven’t seen too much sky, but we have had plenty of thunder! Lord, we look forward to soon being finished and back in the outdoors and back home. So please give us peace and calm and sanity so we can finish well. I pray in the Name of the Prince of Peace. AMEN. Pledge of allegiance to the Flag. Let us pray. Almighty God, Benevolent Creator, in Your loving plan, You created the world and all in it. With your care, You protect and guide all life in its journey through history and to its fullness. We graciously pray that those who have the responsibility in governing and protecting with just and prudent laws, foster a sense of well-being among the people in Nevada. May this Body legislate with sensitivity for the welfare and true needs of our people. Always influenced by a keen thirst for justice and rightness, may they appreciate the dignity and uniqueness of every person. May they have confidence in what is good and fitting, an eagerness and ability to work together in harmony even through honest disagreement. Strengthened by their collaboration and bonded by their camaraderie, may they support one another in the arduous and challenging moments of decision. Through Your gift of love, may they gain personal peace in their lives and joy in their tasks. We ask this in His Name. AMEN. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag led by Bishop Randolph R. Calvo, Roma
