    The title complex, [CuCl2(C9H13N3)], is mononuclear and contains a five-coordinate CuII atom. The geometry of the CuII atom can be described as tetra­gonal-pyramidal derived from the calculation of the value τ = 0.102. The three N atoms of the pyridine and ethane-1,2-diamine ligands and one Cl atom belong to the basal plane and the other Cl atom represents the axial position of the pyramid. The Cu atom is displaced by 0.2599 (2) Å from the basal plane towards the axial Cl atom. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked into chains by inter­molecular N—H⋯Cl and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds

    High visibility on-chip quantum interference of single surface plasmons

    Quantum photonic integrated circuits (QPICs) based on dielectric waveguides have been widely used in linear optical quantum computation. Recently, surface plasmons have been introduced to this application because they can confine and manipulate light beyond the diffraction limit. In this study, the on-chip quantum interference of two single surface plasmons was achieved using dielectric-loaded surface-plasmon-polariton waveguides. The high visibility (greater than 90%) proves the bosonic nature of single plasmons and emphasizes the feasibility of achieving basic quantum logic gates for linear optical quantum computation. The effect of intrinsic losses in plasmonic waveguides with regard to quantum information processing is also discussed. Although the influence of this effect was negligible in the current experiment, our studies reveal that such losses can dramatically reduce quantum interference visibility in certain cases; thus, quantum coherence must be carefully considered when designing QPIC devices.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in pet dogs in Kunming, Southwest China

    BACKGROUND: Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, which infects almost all warm-blooded animals, including humans, with a worldwide distribution. However, little is known of T. gondii seroprevalence in pet dogs in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, southwest China. The objective of this investigation was to estimate the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection in pet dogs in this area. METHODS: A total of 611 serum samples were collected from 7 pet hospitals in Kunming, and assayed for T. gondii antibodies by the indirect haemagglutination (IHA) using a commercially-marked kit. RESULTS: 132 (21.6%) pet dogs were positive for T. gondii antibodies, and the seroprevalence ranged from 17.3% to 34.7% among different sampling regions, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The T. gondii seroprevalence in female and male dogs were 20.8% and 22.4%, respectively, the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The seroprevalence ranged from 17.5% to 23.6% among different age groups, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05), and there were no interactions in statistics (P > 0.05) between gender and age of pet dogs in the region. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of the present survey indicate high T. gondii seroprevalance in pet dogs in Kunming, southwest China, posing significant public health concern. It is necessary to enhance integrated strategies and measures to prevent and control T. gondii infection in pet dogs in this area

    The title complex, [Cu2(CH3COO)4(C16H12N2O2)2], forms a dimer of the paddle-wheel type located on a crystallographic inversion centre. The two CuII atoms [Cu⋯Cu = 2.7254 (11) Å] are bridged by four acetate anions. The geometry of the polyhedron around the metal centre can be described as tetra­gonal-pyramidal derived from the calculation of the value τ = 0.0018. The apical positions of the tetra­gonal-pyramidal copper coordination polyhedra are occupied by the N atoms of 2-(2-fur­yl)-1-(2-furylmeth­yl)-1H-benzimidazole ligands. In the crystal structure, mol­ecules are linked into a chain by inter­molecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds parallel to [010]. Two furan rings are disordered over two positions in ratios of 0.55:0.45 and 0.69:0.31

    Epidemiology and immunoprotection of nephropathogenic avian infectious bronchitis virus in southern China

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In last three years, 96 suspected poultry farms from different provinces in China were diagnosed for avian infectious bronchitis (IB) survey. Finally, 221 IBV strains were confirmed by dwarf embryo test and RT-PCR assay. By virus recovery trials, 187 of the isolates caused the birds died or distressed from nephritis, which was accordant with the clinical record.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Based on epidemiology analysis of recent field isolates of nephropathogenic IB in vaccinated farms in China, YL6 strain were used for vaccination and evaluated by antibody titer and challenge tests. The immunoprotection test indicated that the practical application of vaccine based on the recent field strains could finely facilitate controlling the nephropathogenic IB.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Our study was aim at setting a guide for safeguard against nephropathogenic IBV-caused disease in China.</p
