Estimating Extreme 3D Image Rotation with Transformer Cross-Attention
The estimation of large and extreme image rotation plays a key role in
multiple computer vision domains, where the rotated images are related by a
limited or a non-overlapping field of view. Contemporary approaches apply
convolutional neural networks to compute a 4D correlation volume to estimate
the relative rotation between image pairs. In this work, we propose a
cross-attention-based approach that utilizes CNN feature maps and a
Transformer-Encoder, to compute the cross-attention between the activation maps
of the image pairs, which is shown to be an improved equivalent of the 4D
correlation volume, used in previous works. In the suggested approach, higher
attention scores are associated with image regions that encode visual cues of
rotation. Our approach is end-to-end trainable and optimizes a simple
regression loss. It is experimentally shown to outperform contemporary
state-of-the-art schemes when applied to commonly used image rotation datasets
and benchmarks, and establishes a new state-of-the-art accuracy on these
datasets. We make our code publicly available
Životni put jednog rabina
In five books, "We Survived: Yugoslav Jews on the Holocaust" (three of them translated into English), the testimonies of a small number of surviving members of the Jewish community about World War II were collected. The peculiarity of the circumstances in which the entire population of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was found is reflected in the fact that at the beginning of the war, the country was occupied by five invaders: Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania and the fascist satellite formation, the so-called. The Independent State of Croatia. These circumstances also led to different ways of surviving and rescuing Jews from these areas. The Jewish Historical Museum of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia / Serbia published these books with the help of donations and volunteer work of the editorial board in which seven of nine members survived the Holocaust. These books are an extraordinary collection of tragic and dramatic experiences about unique choices - the struggle for life, dignity, and freedom in partisans; about concentration camps, about refugee life under constant threat, about help and friendships. They are also a good basis for exploring the Holocaust and the history of Jews from the former Yugoslavia. Each testimony is enriched with a series of photographs and together with the text, they make unique documentation material. As the suffering of Jews on the territory of the former Yugoslavia is poorly known to the general public, these books have the task of filling that space. They thus become a memorial for all the victims whose many names are found only in memory. One of those memories is "The life story of a Rabbi" by Cadik Danon

The life course of one rabbi
Taking Texas Back: A Voter Turnout Analysis of South Texas.
For the Texas Democratic Party (TDP), the ability to win statewide elections hinges on the ability to raise turnout in South Texas. Voter turnout in South Texas is consistently lower than the state average in general elections. Impediments to voting, like a lack of resources in the region, complicated voting logistics, and more traditionally emphasized barriers to turnout (such as socioeconomic status) contribute to low turnout. The South Texas region, however, reported exceptionally high performance in primary elections, where incentive structures and competition operate well. Nonetheless, the typically cited problems cannot on their own explain low voter turnout in general elections. Low general election turnout primarily stems from two sources: a lack of local competitive races in general elections and the dominance of political factions in the region. These problems cause incentive structures that do a major disservice to the TDP. South Texas has been isolated based on assumptions that voters here simply are not engaged in politics. There is, however, a substantial untapped potential in South Texas for Democrats. Specific strategies to increase voter turnout in South Texas must directly address the underlying systemic problems of incentives and competition of political actors. The TDP must engage South Texas communities, encourage political activity from fresh sources, and increase its presence in the region. The TDP has an opportunity to substantially reshape politics in South Texas before the 2010 elections and to practice new and innovative methods of increasing general election turnout that would simultaneously build leadership capacity in the region
Evaluation of HDR tone mapping methods using essential perceptual attributes
The problem of reproducing high dynamic range images on media with restricted dynamic range has gained a lot of interest in the computer graphics community. There exist various approaches to this issue, which span several research areas including computer graphics, image processing color vision,, physiological aspects, etc. These approaches assume a thorough knowledge of both the objective and subjective attributes of an image. However, no comprehensive overview and analysis of such attributes has been published so far.
In this contribution, we present an overview about the effects of basic image attributes in high dynamic range tone mapping. Furthermore, we propose a scheme of relationships between these attributes, leading to the definition of an overall image quality measure. We present results of subjective psychophysical experiments that we have performed to prove the proposed relationship scheme. Moreover, we also present an evaluation of existing tone mapping methods (operators) with regard to these attributes. Finally, the execution of with reference and without a real reference perceptual experiments gave us the opportunity to relate the obtained subjective results.
Our effort is notjust useful to get into the tone mapping field or when implementing a tone mapping method, but it also sets the stage for well-founded quality comparisons between tone mapping methods. By providing good definitions of the different attributes, user-driven or fully automatic comparisons are made possible. (c) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
