Transfinite Lyndon words
In this paper, we extend the notion of Lyndon word to transfinite words. We
prove two main results. We first show that, given a transfinite word, there
exists a unique factorization in Lyndon words that are densely non-increasing,
a relaxation of the condition used in the case of finite words.
In the annex, we prove that the factorization of a rational word has a
special form and that it can be computed from a rational expression describing
the word
Effect of engine, tank and propellant specific cost on single stage recoverable booster economics
Reusable first stages using hydrogen-oxygen, hydrogen-fluorine
and kerosine-oxygen are compared with non-reusable stages using a solid
in addition to the liquid combinations. The criterion used for comparison
is the minimum specific cost of the "loaded and ready for launch"
stage cost per unit of stage payload mass. A closed form relationship
is used in which the empty stage mass without payload is taken to scale
in part proportional to propellant mass, and in part to mass flow rate.
The stage specific cost is proportional to specific cost of engine (or
nozzle) tank and propellant. In the second part the hydrogen-oxygen
combination is consiaered,in more detail. The sensitivity of the
results to changes in various specific costs including that of refurbishing
are described.
Throughout, the stage velocity increments are compared in the
3000-6000 metres/second range with losses
Design of experiment study of the parameters that affect performance of three flow plate configurations of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell
Low temperature hydrogen fuel cells are electrochemical devices which offer a promising alternative to traditional power sources. Fuel cells produce electricity with a reaction of the fuel (hydrogen) and air. Fuel cells have the advantage of being clean; only producing water and heat as by products. The efficiency of a fuel cell varies depending on the type; SOFC with CHP for example, can have a system efficiency of up to 65%.
What the Authors present here is a comparison between three different configurations of flow plates of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell, the manufacturerâs serpentine flow plate and two new configurations; the maze flow plate and the parallel flow plate. A study of the input parameters affecting output responses of voltage, current, power and efficiency of a fuel cell is performed through experimentation. The results were taken from direct readings of the fuel cell and from polarisation curves produced. This information was then analysed through a design of experiment to investigate the effects of the changing parameters on different configurations of the fuel cellâs flow plates.
The results indicate that, in relation to current and voltage response of the polarisation curve and the corresponding graphs produced from the DOE, the serpentine flow plate design is a much more effective design than the maze or parallel flow plate design. It was noted that the parallel flow plate performed reasonably well at higher pressures but over all statically the serpentine flow plate performed better
Continuity of Functional Transducers: A Profinite Study of Rational Functions
A word-to-word function is continuous for a class of languages~
if its inverse maps _languages to~. This notion
provides a basis for an algebraic study of transducers, and was integral to the
characterization of the sequential transducers computable in some circuit
complexity classes.
Here, we report on the decidability of continuity for functional transducers
and some standard classes of regular languages. To this end, we develop a
robust theory rooted in the standard profinite analysis of regular languages.
Since previous algebraic studies of transducers have focused on the sole
structure of the underlying input automaton, we also compare the two algebraic
approaches. We focus on two questions: When are the automaton structure and the
continuity properties related, and when does continuity propagate to
superclasses
Polishness of some topologies related to word or tree automata
We prove that the B\"uchi topology and the automatic topology are Polish. We
also show that this cannot be fully extended to the case of a space of infinite
labelled binary trees; in particular the B\"uchi and the Muller topologies are
not Polish in this case.Comment: This paper is an extended version of a paper which appeared in the
proceedings of the 26th EACSL Annual Conference on Computer Science and
Logic, CSL 2017. The main addition with regard to the conference paper
consists in the study of the B\"uchi topology and of the Muller topology in
the case of a space of trees, which now forms Section
Extractive Adversarial Networks: High-Recall Explanations for Identifying Personal Attacks in Social Media Posts
We introduce an adversarial method for producing high-recall explanations of
neural text classifier decisions. Building on an existing architecture for
extractive explanations via hard attention, we add an adversarial layer which
scans the residual of the attention for remaining predictive signal. Motivated
by the important domain of detecting personal attacks in social media comments,
we additionally demonstrate the importance of manually setting a semantically
appropriate `default' behavior for the model by explicitly manipulating its
bias term. We develop a validation set of human-annotated personal attacks to
evaluate the impact of these changes.Comment: Accepted to EMNLP 2018 Code and data available at

INCREASING CONCENTRATION IN THE U.S. HARD WHEAT MILLING INDUSTRY
This research shows that increased concentration in the U.S. wheat milling industry has not led to noncompetive pricing in upstream or downstream markets. Increased concentration has helped to reduce the marketing margin by $0.65 for every 100 pounds of flour produced. This is about 7% of the average marketing margin.Crop Production/Industries, Industrial Organization,
