    Measuring Îł\gamma in B±→K±(KK∗)DB^\pm \to K^\pm (K K^*)_D decays

    We develop a method to measure the CKM angle Îł\gamma without hadronic uncertainties from the analysis of B±→K±D0B^\pm \to K^\pm D^0 and K^\pm \D0bar followed by singly Cabibbo-suppressed DD decays to non CP-eigenstates, such as K±K∗∓K^\pm K^{*\mp}. This method utilizes the interference between b→cuˉsb\to c\bar u s and b→ucˉsb\to u\bar c s decays, and we point out several attractive features of it. All the modes that need to be measured for this method are accessible in the present data.Comment: 8 page

    What can we learn from a measurement of sin(2 beta + gamma)?

    The constraints on the value of the CKM phase gamma that may be achieved by prospective measurements of sin(2 beta) and sin(2 beta + gamma) are discussed. Significant constraints require quite small errors, and may depend on assumptions about strong phases. The measurement of sin(2 beta + gamma) combined with other experiments could provide valuable limits on new physics in Bd-Bdbar mixing.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, RevTex 4, uses amsmath and graphic

    Determining Îł\gamma using B±→DK±B^\pm \to D K^\pm with multibody D decays

    We propose a method for determining Îł\gamma using B±→DK±B^\pm\to D K^\pm decays followed by a multibody DD decay, such as D→KSπ−π+D \to K_S \pi^-\pi^+, D→KSK−K+D \to K_S K^-K^+ and D→KSπ−π+π0D \to K_S \pi^-\pi^+\pi^0. The main advantages of the method is that it uses only Cabibbo allowed DD decays, and that large strong phases are expected due to the presence of resonances. Since no knowledge about the resonance structure is needed, Îł\gamma can be extracted without any hadronic uncertainty.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur

    Novel CP-violating Effects in B decays from Charged-Higgs in a Two-Higgs Doublet Model for the Top Quark

    We explore charged-Higgs cp-violating effects in a specific type III two-Higgs doublet model which is theoretically attractive as it accommodates the large mass of the top quark in a natural fashion. Two new CP-violating phases arise from the right-handed up quark sector. We consider CP violation in both neutral and charged B decays. Some of the important findings are as follows. 1) Large direct-CP asymmetry is found to be possible for B+- to psi/J K+-. 2) Sizable D-anti-D mixing effect at the percent level is found to be admissible despite the stringent constraints from the data on K-anti-K mixing, b to s gamma and B to tau nu decays. 3) A simple but distinctive CP asymmetry pattern emerges in decays of B_d and B_s mesons, including B_d to psi/J K_S, D+ D-, and B_s to D_s+ D_s-, psi eta/eta^prime, psi/J K_S. 4) The effect of D-anti-D mixing on the CP asymmetry in B+- to D/anti-D K+- and on the extraction of the angle gamma of the unitarity triangle from such decays can be significant.Comment: 32 pages, 5 figures, section V.A revised, version to appear in PR
