Asymptotic estimates on the time derivative of entropy on a Riemannian manifold

We consider the entropy of the solution to the heat equation on a Riemannian manifold. When the manifold is compact, we provide two estimates on the rate of change of the entropy in terms of the lower bound on the Ricci curvature and the spectral gap respectively. Our explicit computation for the three dimensional hyperbolic space shows that the time derivative of the entropy is asymptotically bounded by two positive constants.Comment: 15 page

CsCl-type compounds in binary alloys of rare-earth metals with gold and silver

    Get PDF
In binary alloys of silver with Sm, Tb, Ho, and Tm, and of gold with Y, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, and Tm, intermediate phases containing stoichiometric proportions of the two metals were found to crystallize into the CsCl (B2)-type structure. The lattice parameters of these phases are reported and a correlation has been found between these lattice parameters and the trivalent ionic radii of the rare-earth metals

Disordered Kondo Nanoclusters: Effect of Energy Spacing

Exact diagonalization results for Kondo nanoclusters alloyed with mixed valence impurities show that tuning the {\it energy spacing}, Δ\Delta, drives the system from the Kondo to the RKKY regime. The interplay of Δ\Delta and disorder gives rise to a Δ\Delta versus concentration T=0 phase diagram very rich in structure, where regions with prevailing Kondo or RKKY correlations alternate with domains of ferromagnetic order. The local Kondo temperatures, TKT_K, and RKKY interactions depend strongly on the local environment and are overall {\it enhanced} by disorder, in contrast to the hypothesis of ``Kondo disorder'' single-impurity models.Comment: 4pages 4 figuresDisordered Kondo Nanoclusters: Effect of Energy Spacin
