    Determination of electron-nucleus collision geometry with forward neutrons

    There are a large number of physics programs one can explore in electron-nucleus collisions at a future electron-ion collider. Collision geometry is very important in these studies, while the measurement for an event-by-event geometric control is rarely discussed in the prior deep inelastic scattering experiments off a nucleus. This paper seeks to provide some detailed studies on the potential of tagging collision geometries through forward neutron multiplicity measurements with a zero degree calorimeter. This type of geometry handle, if achieved, can be extremely beneficial in constraining nuclear effects for the electron-nucleus program at an electron-ion collider

    We discuss the Pad\'e approximation to the ππ\pi\pi scattering amplitudes in 1--loop chiral perturbation theory. The approximation restores unitarity and can reproduce the correct resonance poles, but the approximation violates crossing symmetry and produce spurious poles on the complex ss plane and therefore plagues its predictions on physical quantities at quantitative level.     Phase diagram and optical conductivity of the one-dimensional spinless Holstein model

    The effects of quantum lattice fluctuations on the Peierls transition and the optical conductivity in the one-dimensional Holstein model of spinless fermions have been studied by developing an analytical approach, based on the unitary transformation method. We show that when the electron-phonon coupling constant decreases to a finite critical value the Peierls dimerization is destroyed by the quantum lattice fluctuations. The dimerization gap is much more reduced by the quantum lattice fluctuations than the phonon order parameter. The calculated optical conductivity does not have the inverse-square-root singularity but have a peak above the gap edge and there exists a significant tail below the peak. The peak of optical-conductivity spectrum is not directly corresponding to the dimerized gap. Our results of the phase diagram and the spectral-weight function agree with those of the density matrix renormalization group and the exact diagonalization methods.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures include

    Probing Gluon Saturation through Dihadron Correlations at an Electron-Ion Collider

    Two-particle azimuthal angle correlations have been proposed to be one of the most direct and sensitive probes to access the underlying gluon dynamics involved in hard scatterings. In anticipation of an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), detailed studies of dihadron correlation measurements in electron-proton and electron-ion collisions at an EIC have been performed. The impact of such measurements on the understanding of the different gluon distribution functions, as a clean signature for gluon saturation and to constrain saturation models further, has been explored. It is shown that dihadron correlation measurements will be one of the key methods to probe gluon saturation phenomena at a future EIC.Comment: 13 pages, 13 eps figure

    Hawking Radiation of Black p-Branes from Gravitational Anomaly

    We investigate the Hawking radiation of black pp-branes of superstring theories using the method of anomaly cancelation, specially, we use the method of [S. Iso, H. Umetsu and F. Wilczek, {\sl Phys. Rev. Lett.} {\bf 96}, 151302 (2006); {\sl Phys. Rev. D} {\bf 74}, 044017 (2006)]. The metrics of black pp-branes are spherically symmetric, but not the Schwarzschild type. In order to simplify the calculation, we first make a coordinate transformation to transform the metric to the Schwarzschild type. Then we calculate its energy-momentum flux from the method of anomaly cancelation of the above mentioned references. The obtained energy-momentum flux is equal to a black body radiation, the thermodynamic temperature of the radiation is equal to its Hawking temperature. And we find that the results are not changed for the original non-Schwarzschild type spherically symmetric metric.Comment: 19 pages Latex, some mistakes correcte

The idea of ‘connected societies’ was inspired by the Belt and Road Initiative1’ (BRI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Its core spirit is to enhance economic collaboration and cultural exchanges between Asia and Europe through resurrecting the legacies of the ancient Silk Road, both on land and across the sea, through which to create ‘a Community of Shared Future for Mankind’ (Xinhua, 2017). The BRI is by no means a universally accepted political and economic ideal. It has nevertheless opened up spaces for exploring a new global discourse of communication and development
