Electromagnetic analysis for large reflector antennas
A comparison is made between the measured E and H plane patterns of the 35 GHz offset paraboloidal reflector and the calculated patterns for the same reflector using the 200 points to describe the surface. The accuracy of the computer prediction is quite good considering that the only description of the surface was the coordinates of a finite number of points on the reflector. The results indicate the possibility of acceptable accuracy in the prediction of electromagnetic performance for arbitrarily distorted reflectors using the coordinates of a practical number of measured points. An optimization of the number and distribution of points, and experimental verification for a distorted reflector are planned
Integrating IR detector imaging systems
An integrating IR detector array for imaging is provided in a hybrid circuit with InSb mesa diodes in a linear array, a single J-FET preamplifier for readout, and a silicon integrated circuit multiplexer. Thin film conductors in a fan out pattern deposited on an Al2O3 substrate connect the diodes to the multiplexer, and thick film conductors also connect the reset switch and preamplifier to the multiplexer. Two phase clock pulses are applied with a logic return signal to the multiplexer through triax comprised of three thin film conductors deposited between layers. A lens focuses a scanned image onto the diode array for horizontal read out while a scanning mirror provides vertical scan
CWG: A FORTRAN program for mutual coupling in a planar array of circular waveguide-fed apertures
A FORTRAN program which calculates the mutual coupling between circular apertures in a conductive plane is documented. The program is quite general in that the apertures do not have to be the same sizes, nor do they have to be polarized in the same direction. In addition, several waveguide modes (TE and/or TM) may be specified in the apertures and the mutual coupling between all combinations of apertures and modes will be calculated. The program also allows multiple layers of homogeneous dielectrics to be placed over the aperture array. Outside the layered region, one can specify either a homogeneous half-space, or a perfect reflecting surface
A simple stripline design for uneven power split
A technique for the design of stripline or microstrip power dividers for unequal, but in-phase, power split is described. The output power ratio is determined by selecting the location of the input port in a manner analogous to the tap point for an electric power transformer. The technique yields a usable bandwidth of 7 to 8 percent and is attractive for tapered amplitude distribution networks for narrow band phased arrays

Visible and infrared linear detector arrays for the Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS)
The Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) instrument uses four separate focal plane assemblies consisting of line array detectors that are multiplexed to a common J-FET preamp using a FET switch multiplexing (MUX) technique. A 32-element silicon line array covers the spectral range from 0.41 to 0.70 microns. Three additional 64-element indium antimonide (InSb) line arrays cover the spectral range from 0.68 to 2.45 microns. The spectral sampling interval per detector element is nominally 9.8 nm, giving a total of 224 spectral channels. All focal planes operate at liquid nitrogen temperature and are housed in separate dewars. Electrical performance characteristics include a read noise of less than 1000 e(-) in all channels, response and dark nonuniformity of 5 percent peak to peak, and quantum efficiency of greater than 60 percent
