Unsteady Diffuser Vane Pressure and Impeller Wake Measurements in a Centrifugal Pump
Unsteady surface pressure measurements on a vaned diffuser of a centrifugal pump, and wake measurement of the flow exiting a centrifugal impeller into a vaneless diffuser are presented. Frequency spectra and ensemble averages are given for the unsteady measurements. Two different impellers were used, the pump impeller of the HPOTP (High Pressure Oxygen Turbopump) of the SSME (Space Shuttle Main Engine) and a two-dimensional impeller. The magnitude of the unsteady total pressure measured in the stationary frame at the impeller exit was found to be of the same order of magnitude as the total pressure rise across the pump. The magnitude of the unsteady diffuser vane pressures was observed to be significantly different on suction and pressure side of the vane, attaining its largest value on the suction side near the leading edge while decreasing along the vane
Rotordynamic Forces on Centrifugal Pump Impellers
The asymmetric flow around an impeller in a volute exerts a force upon the impeller. To study the rotordynamic force on an impeller which is vibrating around its machine axis of rotation, the impeller, mounted on a dynamometer, is made to whirl in a circular orbit within the volute. The measured force is expressed as the sum of a steady radial force and an unsteady force due to the eccentric motion of the impeller. These forces were measured in separate tests on a centrifugal pump with radically increased shroud clearance, a two-dimensional impeller, and an impeller with an inducer, the impeller of the HPOTP (High Pressure Oxygen Turbopump) of the SSME (Space Shuttle Main Enginer). Yang-Lee Theory for a Nonequilibrium Phase Transition
To analyze phase transitions in a nonequilibrium system we study its grand
canonical partition function as a function of complex fugacity. Real and
positive roots of the partition function mark phase transitions. This behavior,
first found by Yang and Lee under general conditions for equilibrium systems,
can also be applied to nonequilibrium phase transitions. We consider a
one-dimensional diffusion model with periodic boundary conditions. Depending on
the diffusion rates, we find real and positive roots and can distinguish two
regions of analyticity, which can identified with two different phases. In a
region of the parameter space both of these phases coexist. The condensation

Comment on piNN Coupling from High Precision np Charge Exchange at 162 MeV
In this updated and expanded version of our delayed Comment we show that the
np backward cross section, as presented by the Uppsala group, is seriously
flawed (more than 25 sd.). The main reason is the incorrect normalization of
the data. We show also that their extrapolation method, used to determine the
charged piNN coupling constant, is a factor of about 10 less accurate than
claimed by Ericson et al. The large extrapolation error makes the determination
of the coupling constant by the Uppsala group totally uninteresting.Comment: 5 pages, latex2e with a4wide.sty. This is an updated and extended

Zeroth Law compatibility of non-additive thermodynamics
Non-extensive thermodynamics was criticized among others by stating that the
Zeroth Law cannot be satisfied with non-additive composition rules. In this
paper we determine the general functional form of those non-additive
composition rules which are compatible with the Zeroth Law of thermodynamics.
We find that this general form is additive for the formal logarithms of the
original quantities and the familiar relations of thermodynamics apply to
these. Our result offers a possible solution to the longstanding problem about
equilibrium between extensive and non-extensive systems or systems with
different non-extensivity parameters.Comment: 18 pages, 1 figur
Where are the missing members of the baryon antidecuplet?
We analyze what consequences has the observation of exotic pentaquark baryons
on the location of the non-exotic baryons belonging to the antidecuplet. We
suggest that there must be a new nucleon state at 1650-1690 MeV and a new Sigma

Extraction of the D13(1520) photon-decay couplings from pion- and eta-photoproduction data
We compare results for the D13(1520) photon-decay amplitudes determined in
analyses of eta- and pion-photoproduction data. The ratio of helicity
amplitudes (A_3/2 / A_1/2), determined from eta-photoproduction data, is quite
different from that determined in previous analyses of pion-photoproduction
data. We consider how strongly the existing pion-photoproduction data constrain
both this ratio and the individual photon-decay amplitudes.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
An updated analysis of NN elastic scattering data to 1.6 GeV
An energy-dependent and set of single-energy partial-wave analyses of
elastic scattering data have been completed. The fit to 1.6~GeV has been
supplemented with a low-energy analysis to 400 MeV. Using the low-energy fit,
we study the sensitivity of our analysis to the choice of coupling
constant. We also comment on the possibility of fitting data alone. These
results are compared with those found in the recent Nijmegen analyses. (Figures

The energies and residues of the nucleon resonances N(1535) and N(1650)
We extract pole positions for the N(1535) and N(1650) resonances using two
different models. The positions are determined from fits to different subsets
of the existing , and data
and found to be 1515(10)--i85(15)MeV and 1660(10)--i65(10)MeV, when the data is
described in terms of two poles. Sensitivity to the choice of fitted data is
explored. The corresponding and residues of these poles
are also extracted.Comment: 9 page
Analysis of resonance multipoles from polarization observables in eta photoproduction
A combined analysis of new eta photoproduction data for total and
differential cross sections, target asymmetry and photon asymmetry is
presented. Using a few reasonable assumptions we perform the first
model-independent analysis of the E0+, E2- and M2- eta photoproduction
multipoles. Making use of the well-known A3/2 helicity amplitude of the
D13(1520) state we extract its branching ratio to the eta-N channel,
Gamma(eta,N)/Gamma = (0.08 +- 0.01)%. At higher energies, we show that the
photon asymmetry is extremely sensitive to small multipoles that are excited by
photons in the helicity 3/2 state. The new GRAAL photon asymmetry data at
higher energy show a clear signal of the F15(1680) excitation which permits
extracting an F15(1680)->eta,N branching ratio of (0.15 +0.35 -0.10)%.Comment: 14 pages of LATEX including 7 postscript figure
