Cardiac hemangioma of the right atrium in a neonate : fetal management and expedited surgical resection
Cardiac hemangioma is a rare tumor with a reported incidence of 1-2%. We describe
the case of a neonate with a right atrial mass that was diagnosed prenatally. The
fetus developed a supraventricular tachycardia and was delivered by cesarean
section in the 35th week of gestation. The infant underwent surgery after 24 hours to
remove the mass which was diagnosed as a cardiac capillary-cavernous

Thermodynamic and Dynamic Anomalies for Dumbbell Molecules Interacting with a Repulsive Ramp-Like Potential
Using collision driven discrete molecular dynamics (DMD), we investigate the
thermodynamics and dynamics of systems of 500 dumbbell molecules interacting by
a purely repulsive ramp-like discretized potential, consisting of steps of
equal size. We compare the behavior of the two systems, with and steps. Each system exhibits both thermodynamic and dynamic anomalies, a
density maximum and the translational and rotational mobilities show anomalous
behavior. Starting with very dense systems and decreasing the density, both
mobilities first increase, reache a maximum, then decrease, reache a minimum,
and finally increase; this behavior is similar to the behavior of SPC/E water.
The regions in the pressure-temperature plane of translational and rotational
mobility anomalies depend strongly on . The product of the translational
diffusion coefficient and the orientational correlation time increases with
temperature, in contrast with the behavior of most liquids
Magnetic structure and phase diagram in a spin-chain system: CaCoO
The low-temperature structure of the frustrated spin-chain compound
CaCoO is determined by the ground state of the 2D Ising model on
the triangular lattice. At high-temperatures it transforms to the honeycomb
magnetic structure. It is shown that the crossover between the two magnetic
structures at 12 K arises from the entropy accumulated in the disordered
chains. This interpretation is in an agreement with the experimental data.
General rules for for the phase diagram of frustrated Ising chain compounds are

Molecular dynamics simulations of oxide memristors: crystal field effects
We present molecular-dynamic simulations of memory resistors (memristors)
including the crystal field effects on mobile ionic species such as oxygen
vacancies appearing during operation of the device. Vacancy distributions show
different patterns depending on the ratio of a spatial period of the crystal
field to a characteristic radius of the vacancy-vacancy interaction. There are
signatures of the orientational order and of spatial voids in the vacancy
distributions for some crystal field potentials. The crystal field stabilizes
the patterns after they are formed, resulting in a non-volatile switching of

Three osculating walkers
We consider three directed walkers on the square lattice, which move
simultaneously at each tick of a clock and never cross. Their trajectories form
a non-crossing configuration of walks. This configuration is said to be
osculating if the walkers never share an edge, and vicious (or:
non-intersecting) if they never meet. We give a closed form expression for the
generating function of osculating configurations starting from prescribed
points. This generating function turns out to be algebraic. We also relate the
enumeration of osculating configurations with prescribed starting and ending
points to the (better understood) enumeration of non-intersecting
configurations. Our method is based on a step by step decomposition of
osculating configurations, and on the solution of the functional equation
provided by this decomposition
Estimating age of spotted and spinner dolphins (Stenella attenuata and Stenella longirostris) from teeth
This paper is an account of preparation and examination techniques and criteria used to estimate age in decalcified and stained tooth thin sections from spinner and spotted dolphins. A dentinal growth layer group (GLG),
composed of two thin light and two thicker dark-stained layers, is deposited annually. The GLG component layers are variably visible, but the "ideal" pattern and successive thinning of dentinal GLGs are used as a guide to determine GLG limits. Age-specific thicknesses of dentinal GLGs found in Hawaiian spinner dolphin teeth seem to be applicable to teeth of spotted dolphins and can be used as an aid in locating GLG boundaries. Cementa1 GLGs are composed of a dark-stained and alightly stained layer and usually are
deposited at a rate of one per year, but may be deposited every other year or two or three times per year. Two slightly different methods of counting dentinal GLGs are presented, along with guidelines for determining whether
dentinal or cementa1 GLG counts provide the best estimate of age for a specimen. (PDF contains 23 pages.
Recovery of Interdependent Networks
Recent network research has focused on the cascading failures in a system of
interdependent networks and the necessary preconditions for system collapse. An
important question that has not been addressed is how to repair a failing
system before it suffers total breakdown. Here we introduce a recovery strategy
of nodes and develop an analytic and numerical framework for studying the
concurrent failure and recovery of a system of interdependent networks based on
an efficient and practically reasonable strategy. Our strategy consists of
repairing a fraction of failed nodes, with probability of recovery ,
that are neighbors of the largest connected component of each constituent
network. We find that, for a given initial failure of a fraction of
nodes, there is a critical probability of recovery above which the cascade is
halted and the system fully restores to its initial state and below which the
system abruptly collapses. As a consequence we find in the plane of
the phase diagram three distinct phases. A phase in which the system never
collapses without being restored, another phase in which the recovery strategy
avoids the breakdown, and a phase in which even the repairing process cannot
avoid the system collapse
A hermeneutic inquiry into user-created personas in different Namibian locales
Persona is a tool broadly used in technology design to support communicational interactions between designers and users. Different Persona types and methods have evolved mostly in the Global North, and been partially deployed in the Global South every so often in its original User-Centred Design methodology. We postulate persona conceptualizations are expected to differ across cultures. We demonstrate this with an exploratory-case study on user-created persona co-designed with four Namibian ethnic groups: ovaHerero, Ovambo, ovaHimba and Khoisan. We follow a hermeneutic inquiry approach to discern cultural nuances from diverse human conducts. Findings reveal diverse self-representations whereby for each ethnic group results emerge in unalike fashions, viewpoints, recounts and storylines. This paper ultimately argues User-Created Persona as a potentially valid approach for pursuing cross-cultural depictions of personas that communicate cultural features and user experiences paramount to designing acceptable and gratifying technologies in dissimilar locales
