Method and device for the non-invasive monitoring and identification of drug effects and interactions
A method for use in detecting and monitoring effects experienced by a subject taking a first drug, drug A, and at least one other substance, substance B, the method comprising: (a) obtaining a plurality of measured values of a physiological characteristic of the subject over a time period; (b) comparing the measured values to a predefined signature, the drug A signature, associated with the first drug, and thereby calculating a measure, Adiff, of the difference between the measured values and the drug A signature; (c) comparing the measured values to a predefined signature, the substance B signature, associated with the at least one other substance, and thereby calculating a measure, Bdiff, of the difference between the measured values and the substance B signature; (d) comparing the measured values to a predefined signature, the DO signature, associated with a desired physiological state of the subject, and thereby calculating a measure, DOdiff, of the difference between the measured values and the DO signature; and (e) combining Adiff and DOdiff to produce an output
Assessing the functional ability of a person to perform a task
Presented is a system and method for assessing the functional ability of a person to perform a task. The system comprises: a task identification unit adapted to identify the task to be performed by the person; and a task complexity unit adapted to obtain a task-specific complexity signal representative of a required level of functional ability to perform the identified task. A functional ability unit is adapted to obtain a functional ability signal representative of a determined functional ability of the person. An assessment unit is adapted to determine an ability of the person to perform the identified task based on the task-specific complexity signal and the functional ability signal
Automatic Dynamic Expression Synthesis for Speech Animation
Although a large amount of research has been done in speech animation, both 2D and 3D, one shortcoming of current speech animation methods is that they cannot generate dynamic expressions automatically. In this paper, an automatic technique for synthesizing novel dynamic expression for 3D speech animation is presented. After a Phoneme-Independent Expression Eigen-Space (PIEES) is extracted from expressive facial motion capture data by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), texture synthesis methods are used to synthesize novel dynamic expression from the PIEES. Control for expression intensity dynamics is also provided for animators via expression intensity curves
