In this project, I would like to convey the reality of a patriarchal society through fiction and more specifically, fantasy. This project focuses on the lives of the four major characters representing a patriarchal family. It also focuses on the struggles that each of the characters have between following their own passion and the social expectations. The two themes used in this project are individual against society and male gender roles with the hegemonized patriarchal value as the basis. These values became the burden that men have to take in order to be accepted by the society. To portray this reality through fiction, I am using the realistic fantasy, a sub-genre of fantasy, as the genre of the four stories

Deck of Lives

This study is accomplished to assist the readers of the novel project that is created to understand more about the elements in the novel Deck of Lives. The purpose of this novel is to educate people about the psychological aspects, what cause it and the results, and to support those who have similar psychological disorder. Using the theory of Death Instinct by Freud and Borderline Psychological Disorder, this novel will show the story and the attitudes of the main character. As a conclusion, one cause of the psychological aspects is the neglect and abuse, whether it is emotional, verbal, or physical done by the parents. This will help the readers to understand more of what to do to children to avoid such psychological aspect

The Organization of Words in Mental Lexicon: Evidence From Word Association Test

Both in psychology and linguistics studies, memory is one of the core of interests amongst researchers. In linguistics, memory is the place where language processes consisting of language perception, storage, and access of words take place. Words, in memory, are stored in complex, clear, well-organized, and ordered networks called nodes, which can be represented by World Wide Web. This word organization in psycholinguistics is referred to mental lexicon. This study aims to investigate what kind of nodes representation stored in mental lexicon of foreign language learners. Word Association Test (WAT), the well-known study method in both psychology and linguistics studies, is employed by using English Swadesh word list as the stimulus to elicit the lexical relation amongst words. The basic principle of the test is giving a stimulus to respondents and asking them to give the very first word coming out of their mind. Respondents are undergraduate students of English Literature a university in Indonesia. Findings of this research support the previous findings stating that non-native speakers tend to make syntagmatic relation, which is mostly dominated by collocation association. Interestingly, the finding also shows that the words network in mental lexicon involves a dynamic development based on experience and perception of the respondents

Serbuk arang tempurung kelapa dalam bentuk briket telah dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar pengganti yang alami khususnya untuk keperluan rumah tangga dan USAha kecil. Sebagai bahan bakar, sifat termal arang termpurung kelapa adalah penting dan bergantung pada struktur dan komposisinya yang juga dipengaruhi oleh parameter proses pembentukannya yang meliputi proses pirolisis, pengilingan, pencampuran, pencetakan hingga pengeringan. Integration of TGF-β-induced Smad signaling in the insulin-induced transcriptional response in endothelial cells.

Insulin signaling governs many processes including glucose homeostasis and metabolism, and is therapeutically used to treat hyperglycemia in diabetes. We demonstrated that insulin-induced Akt activation enhances the sensitivity to TGF-β by directing an increase in cell surface TGF-β receptors from a pool of intracellular TGF-β receptors. Consequently, increased autocrine TGF-β signaling in response to insulin participates in insulin-induced angiogenic responses of endothelial cells. With TGF-β signaling controlling many cell responses, including differentiation and extracellular matrix deposition, and pathologically promoting fibrosis and cancer cell dissemination, we addressed to which extent autocrine TGF-β signaling participates in insulin-induced gene responses of human endothelial cells. Transcriptome analyses of the insulin response, in the absence or presence of a TGF-β receptor kinase inhibitor, revealed substantial positive and negative contributions of autocrine TGF-β signaling in insulin-responsive gene responses. Furthermore, insulin-induced responses of many genes depended on or resulted from autocrine TGF-β signaling. Our analyses also highlight extensive contributions of autocrine TGF-β signaling to basal gene expression in the absence of insulin, and identified many novel TGF-β-responsive genes. This data resource may aid in the appreciation of the roles of autocrine TGF-β signaling in normal physiological responses to insulin, and implications of therapeutic insulin usage

ABSTRAK Flat surface wooden joint mostly used with axis joining system. For uncovered construction, this model is not quite good, since it has to be supported by the use of steel or iron to avoid moist pocckets. By this research it is proved that the distance of flat surface wooden joint which is around 1-1.5 cm may influence the speed of draining until around 5 M%. The placement of joining tool which is on top-down system can reduce water infiltration. The drying process under 20M% can be achieved faster compared to other positions. Keywords

The needs of information in the glob31ization gets higher, therefore need a break through in order to get information easily. Along with that matter, many methods are used to develop tinowtedqe and information for public which are followed by the intormetion technology in the management of knowledge. In the eauzetion, library is the source of information which makes the users get rettence of knowledge completely, eCisily, eccuretety, and fast. The use of library website is a part of the information system. This research iies a purpose which is measuring the library website quality by the users. Dimension of measurement which is used in this research are 1 )information quality 2) interaction and quality of information system as well as 3)the usability from human computer interaction. The formation of dimension is known as the webqual enetvsis (Bames and Vidgen, 2003) This research is conducted by distributing questionere to the users of university library (university students) in the amount of 150 respondent, factor of analysis fund which is used in order to get factor which plays an important role in the use and quality of the library website

The Use of Pictured Stories in Improving Students Vocabulary Achievement

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was any significant improvement of the studentsâ vocabulary achievement at the eighth grade of SMP Tunas Harapan, Kedaton, Bandar Lampung after they were taught by using pictured stories and to investigate the process of teaching vocabulary by using pictured stories. This research used one group pre test post test design. The sample of this research was VIII A at Tunas Harapan, Kedaton, Bandar Lampung, in academic year 2010/2011. Objective vocabulary test was used as the instrument of the research. The data were analyzed by using repeated measure t- test in which the significance was determined by p<0.05. The result suggested that the difference of the mean score from pretest and posttest was 16.4. Under SPSS test, the difference was significant, in which the p value was 0.000, which was less than 0.05. This indicates the significant improvement of students vocabulary achievement. In addition the teaching learning process using pictured stories indicates that can improve the students involvement and students activeness in the process of teaching learning vocabulary

Hubungan Gaya Kepemimpinan Selling dengan Kepuasan Kerja Karyawan Bagian Frontliner pada Metro Plaza Pasar Swalayan Pekanbaru

The aim of this research is to know the leadership style and work satisfaction of frontliner employee at Metro Plaza Pasar Swalayan Pekanbaru.This research takes place in Metro Plaza which located at Harapan Raya street no 201 Pekanbaru. This is qualitative research with case study data; investigate the correlation between selling leadership style and work satisfaction of frontliner employee at Metro Plaza pasar Swalayan Pekanbaru, population of this research is the frontliner employee in the and of year 2012, they are 80 persons. Sample taken is the whole population by using sensus technique. Analyzing the data using correlation rank spearman formula.The finding of the research shows that tenponses of respondent about work satisfaction in category agree, where some frontliner employees feel satisfy with the leadership that applied at Metro Plaza Pasar Swalayan Pekanbaru, responses of the respondent about selling leadership style in category good, for most of employess agree with leadership style applied by the company.The result of correlation between selling leadership style and work satisfaction of frontliner employee using rank spearman formula shows that there are great and positive correlation.Keywords: Leadership, Selling Leadership style, work satisfactio
