Delusional parasitosis (DP) is a psychiatric disorder which is characterized by wrong belief as the person's body is infested with parasites although there is not an medical evidence. Shared Psychotic Disorder was reported among 10% of cases with DP. Conventional and atypical antipschotics are both used in the treatment of DP. The data about use of atypical antipsycotics in DP is restricted by case reports and case series and there is no systematic research about this issue according to our knowledge. Oral or intramuscular depot form of risperidon is the most frequently used atypical antipsychotic agent in the treatment of DP. In this article, we aimed to present succesful treatment of two patients with DP who were presented as shared psychotic disorder by low dose risperidone

Objective: Communication difficulties are considered the most significant consequence of hearing loss. This study aimed to determine whether surgical face masks, which have been mandatory throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, have an effect on speech comprehension scores in geriatric lip-reading patients with hearing loss and to raise awareness of the need for solutions to this problem. Materials and Method: Patients with moderate and higher sensorineural or mixed bilateral symmetrical hearing loss who stated that they lip-read to better understand during communication were included in the study. The patients’ speech comprehension scores were gathered while the audiologist wore a surgical mask and then a transparent mask, respectively. Results: Twelve (33,3%) of the patients were female, and 24 (66.7%) were male. The mean age of the patients was 66.64±1.53 years. The mean speech comprehension scores of the patients when the audiologist was wearing a surgical mask (38.25±14.33) and a transparent mask (67.81 ± 14.30), respectively, were compared. The surgical mask significantly affected speech comprehension scores, and the Cohen d value of the effect size was 2.06. As such, the surgical face mask had a great effect on these patients’ speech comprehension scores. Conclusions: In elderly lip-reading patients who suffer from hearing loss, seeing the lip movements of the speaker, especially in hospital applications, promotes more effective communication. Transparent face masks can be considered a solution. © 2022, Geriatrics Society. All rights reserved

This study aimed to investigate acute effects of table tennis(physical+cognitive exercise), aerobic running (physical exercise), and chess (cognitive exercise) exercise sessions of veteran male athletes in their branches on the serum homocysteine (Hcy), insulin growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and cortisol (Cor) levels. Thirty veteran athletes [10 table tennis players (TT), 10 long-distance runners (LR), 10 chess players (CP)] and 10 sedentary controls (SC) between 50 and 65 years of age participated in the study. Blood samples were obtained before and immediately after exercise to determine serum Hcy, IGF-1, and Cor levels. According to their branch, each veteran athlete performed exercise sessions (70-75% of the participants' heart rate reserve) of 10-min of warm-up followed by 40-min of table tennis, aerobic running, or chess. TT and LR groups demonstrated significant increases in the serum IGF-1, Cor, and Hcy levels from pre to post-exercise (p0.05). LR group had a greater serum Cor increase than all exercise groups (p<0.05). The TT group showed significantly greater changes in serum Cor levels than the CP group (p<0.05). In conclusion, although a single bout of aerobic running and table tennis exercise induces a remarkable increase in all measured biomarkers, chess exercise only elicits an increase in Hcy levels. Although aerobic running is more effective in increasing Cor levels than other types of exercise, the current study's findings suggest that serum Hcy and IGF-1 levels in veteran male athletes are not affected by the type of exercise

Delusional parasitosis (DP) is a psychiatric disorder which is characterized by wrong belief as the person's body is infested with parasites although there is not an medical evidence. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of a series of novel hybrid molecules containing pyrazole and isoxazole rings ((3aS,4S,4aR,7aS,8S,8aS)-6-(4-(1-acetyl-5-(4-(aryl/heteroaryl))-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)phenyl)-3-methyl-4,4 a,8,8a-tetrahydro-3-aH-4,8-methanoisoxazo-lo [4,5-A isoindole-5,7(6H,7aH)-dione derivatives) were reported

Evaluation of elements in human dental tissue in terms of determination of postmortem interval: Experimental study

Despite many methods, there has not been a method yet that exactly determines PMI. This study aims to examine the relationship between the element levels in the dental tissue and the postmortem process in a corpse whose exact time of death is unknown and in the open field and to evaluate its use in determining the time of death by evaluating the increase-decrease-changes. For the study, the healthy and extracted third molars of the patients who applied to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Polyclinic for the extraction of their third molars for various reasons and whose third molars were extracted by the dentists were taken. The samples were divided into 6 groups, with 10 samples in each group. The teeth were left to decay in the open air in a jaw-like plastic model. Na, Mg, P, Ca, Fe, Mn, Co, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Si elements were measured using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer analysis method. In our study, it was determined that there were statistically significant changes in the Na, Mg, Fe, Co, Pb, Si elements in the tooth structure. For the Co and Na elements, 2 regression equations were created that can be used to predict the time of death. This work showed that postmortem tooth element concentration changes can be used to predict the time of death. As a result of experiments that will cover longer periods with more elements and be carried out in different environments, a great contribution will be made to the subject of estimation of time of death which is not clear yet.
