Planning of spatial distribution of population in Israël (Abstract). — The problem of an optimum spatial distribution of population — a theoretical issue for the most countries— became a very practical problem for Israël which more than trebled its population since 1948, mostly by immigration. At the commencement of the Israeli State, — 1948 about 10 p. 100 of the total Jewich population of the country was concentrated within Tel-Aviv, Haifa and Jérusalem Metropolitan areas and about 80 p. 100 within the Central Coastal zone. The planned policy since 1948 aimedat réduction of population concentration in Coastal zone and tried to create an hierar-chical pattern of rural and régional urban centres. Country-wide plans for a désirable spatial distribution of population were several times elabotared and revised. The share of the three Metropolitan areas dropped by 1965 below of 50 p. 100. 20 new towns were erected as régional centres. The policy of planned «dispersai» of population is continued, encounters however more and more difficulties on its pace.Brutzkus Eliezer. Les Plans de répartition de la population en Israël.
