Searching for Stability as we Age: The PCA-Biplot Approach
Principal component analysis (PCA) has been successfully applied to gait data; however, interpretation of the components is challenging. An alternative is to use a graphical display called biplot that gives insights into relationships and trends of data sets. Our goal was to demonstrate the sensitivity of gait variables to aging in elderly women with PCA-biplot. One hundred fifty-one elderly females (71.6±5.0 yrs), 152 adults (44.7±5.4 yrs) and 150 young (21.7±4.1 yrs) participated in the study. Gait spatial and temporal parameters were collected using a computerized carpet. PCA-biplot, discriminant analysis and MANOVA were used in the analysis. PCA-biplot revealed that elderly females walked with lower velocity, shorter step length, reduced swing time, higher cadence, and increased double support time compared to the other two groups. The greatest distances between the groups were along the variable step length with the elderly group showing a decrease of 8.4 cm in relation to the younger group. The discriminant function confirmed the importance of principal component 2 for group separation. Because principal component 2 was heavily weighted by step length and swing time, it represents a measure of stability. As women age they seek a more stable gait by decreasing step length, swing time, and velocity. PCA-biplot highlighted the importance of the variable step length in distinguishing between women of different age groups. It is well-known that as we age we seek a more stable gait. The PCA-biplot emphasized that premise and gave further important insights into relationships and trends of this complex data set
The VISCACHA survey : IV. The SMC West Halo in 8D
The structure of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is very complex, in particular in the periphery that suffers more from the interactions with the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). A wealth of observational evidence has been accumulated revealing tidal tails and bridges made up of gas, stars, and star clusters. Nevertheless, a full picture of the SMC outskirts is only recently starting to emerge with a 6D phase-space map plus age and metallicity using star clusters as tracers. In this work, we continue our analysis of another outer region of the SMC, the so-called West Halo, and combined it with the previously analysed Northern Bridge. We use both structures to define the Bridge and Counter-bridge trailing and leading tidal tails. These two structures are moving away from each other, roughly in the SMC–LMC direction. The West Halo form a ring around the SMC inner regions that goes up to the background of the Northern Bridge shaping an extended layer of the Counter-bridge. Four old Bridge clusters were identified at distances larger than 8 kpc from the SMC centre moving towards the LMC, which is consistent with the SMC–LMC closest distance of 7.5 kpc when the Magellanic Bridge was formed about 150Myr ago; this shows that the Magellanic Bridge was not formed only by pulled gas, but it also removed older stars from the SMC during its formation. We also found age and metallicity radial gradients using projected distances on sky, which are vanished when we use the real 3D distances
MODELING OF SPATIAL DATABASE FOR GEOTECNICAL DATA: Modelagem de banco de dados espaciais para dados geotécnicos
Geotechnical data is often produced and managed by several producers in isolation, in their own formats and standards, which aim to meet the unique needs of specific users. In the Federal District in Brazil there is a large amount of geotechnical data from academic research, public and private sector, but the Government of the Federal District does not have adequate geotechnical information management despite using of that information constantly. This work presents a conceptual model of a geotechnical database, more specifically for field investigations and laboratory tests. For modeling the object modeling technique for geographic application, adopted by the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Federal District (IDE / DF), was used and compatible with the specifications approved by the National Cartography Commission, which defines data structure standards for large-scale topographic surveys facilitating the sharing of spatial data, interoperability and the rationalization of resources between producers and users of data and information map between different institutions. This approach will allow the implementation of the geotechnical data model proposed at SDB/DF and its future integration with National Spatial Data Bank (NSDB).Os dados geotécnicos frequentemente são produzidos e gerenciados por diversos produtores de forma isolada, em formatos e padrões próprios, os quais visam atender única e exclusivamente às necessidades individuais de usuários específicos. No Distrito Federal existe uma grande quantidade de dados geotécnicos oriundos de pesquisas acadêmicas, órgãos executores de obras e do setor privado, mas o Governo do Distrito Federal não dispõe de uma gestão de informações geotécnicas adequada apesar de utilizar constantemente essas informações. Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta modelo conceitual de banco de dados geotécnicos, mais especificamente para investigações de campo e ensaios de laboratório. Para a modelagem foi utilizado a Técnica de Modelagem de Objetos para Aplicações Geográficas, adotado pela Infraestrutura de Dados Espaciais do Distrito Federal (IDE/DF), e compatível com as especificações homologadas pela Comissão Nacional de Cartografia, que define padrões de estrutura de dados para levantamentos topográficos de grandes escalas facilitando o compartilhamento de dados espaciais, a interoperabilidade e a racionalização de recursos entre os produtores e usuários de dados e informação cartográfica entre diferentes instituições. Essa abordagem permitirá a implantação do modelo de dados geotécnicos proposto na IDE/DF e a sua integração futura com a Infraestrutura Nacional de Dados Espaciais (INDE)
Juventudes, coletivos e participação social no processo de descolonização
This study aims to provide a contribution on decolonization from a discussion on youth, youth participation and protoganism of youth groups in Paraíba. The methodology was that of projects, carried out a documentary and bibliographic survey, held events with the project population and applied a questionnaire with participating collectives, of the extension project carried out in 2019. The results were related to the capillarity of collectives as spaces for mediation of youth protagonism, as relevant contributions in the discussion about the public sphere, social participation and protagonism, as aspects/themes that are fundamental to discuss youth, as a social category, which in turn activates the claim against the processes of contemporary colonialism around an action of decolonization, through youth protagonism.Este estudio tiene como objetivo proporcionar una contribución sobre la descolonización a partir de una discusión sobre la juventud, la participación juvenil y el protoganismo de los grupos juveniles en Paraíba. La metodología fue la de proyectos, se realizó un levantamiento documental y bibliográfico, se realizaron eventos con la población del proyecto y se aplicó un cuestionario con los colectivos participantes, del proyecto de extensión realizado en 2019. Los resultados se relacionaron con la capilaridad de los colectivos como espacios de mediación del protagonismo juvenil, como aportes relevantes en la discusión sobre la esfera pública, la participación y el protagonismo social, como aspectos / temas fundamentales para discutir la juventud, como categoría social, que a su vez activa la reivindicación frente a los procesos del colonialismo contemporáneo en torno a una acción de descolonización, a través del protagonismo juvenil.Cette étude vise à contribuer à la recherche sur la décolonisation. À cette fin, il traite de la jeunesse, de la participation et du protagonisme des collectifs de jeunes dans l'État de Paraíba (Brésil). La méthodologie adoptée a été celle des projets, à partir desquels une enquête documentaire et bibliographique a été réalisée. En ce qui concerne la génération de données, il est considéré le contexte de la tenue d'événements avec la population du projet et l'application d'un questionnaire avec les collectifs participants, dans ce cas, du projet d'extension réalisé en 2019. Les résultats ont été liés à la capillarité des collectifs en tant qu'espaces de médiation du protagonisme des jeunes, dans ce cas, des contributions pertinentes dans la discussion sur la sphère publique, la participation sociale et le protagonisme ; et comme ayant des aspects/thèmes qui sont fondamentaux pour discuter des questions de la jeunesse comme une catégorie sociale, qui en retour active la revendication contre les processus du colonialisme contemporain autour d'une action de décolonisation, par le biais du protagonisme des jeunes.Este estudo objetiva contribuir com as pesquisas acerca da descolonização. Para tanto, discute sobre juventudes, participação e protagonismo juvenil de coletivos da juventude do estado da Paraíba (Brasil). A metodologia adotada foi a de projetos, a partir da qual realizou-se um levantamento documental e bibliográfico. Com relação a geração dos dados, considera-se o contexto de realização de eventos com a população do projeto e a aplicação de questionário com coletivos participantes, no caso, do projeto de extensão realizado em 2019. Os resultados foram relacionados à capilaridade dos coletivos como espaços de mediação de protagonismo juvenil, nesse caso, de contribuições relevantes na discussão sobre a esfera pública, a participação social e o protagonismo; e como tendo aspectos/temáticas que são fundamentais para discutir sobre as questões das juventudes enquanto categoria social, que em contrapartida ativa a reivindicação contra os processos de colonialismo contemporâneo em torno de uma ação de descolonização, pela via do protagonismo juvenil
Chemical analysis of eight giant stars of the globular cluster NGC 6366
The metal-rich Galactic globular cluster NGC6366 is the fifth closest to the Sun. Despite its interest, it has received scarce attention, and little is known about its internal structure. Its kinematics suggests a link to the halo, but its metallicity indicates otherwise. We present a detailed chemical analysis of eight giant stars of NGC6366, using high-resolution and highquality spectra (R > 40 000, S/N > 60) obtained at the VLT (8.2 m) and CFHT (3.6 m) telescopes. We attempted to characterize its chemistry and to search for evidence of multiple stellar populations. The atmospheric parameters were derived using the method of excitation and ionization equilibrium of Fe I and Fe II lines and from those atmospheric parameters we calculated the abundances for other elements and found that none of the elements measured presents star-to-star variation greater than the uncertainties. We compared the derived abundances with those of other globular clusters and field stars available in the literature. We determined a mean [Fe/H] = −0.60 ± 0.03 for NGC6366 and found some similarity of this object with M71, another inner halo globular cluster. The Na–O anticorrelation extension is short and no star-to-star variation in Al is found. The presence of second generation stars is not evident in NGC6366
The bed bath according to the undergraduate nursing students' perspective
Objective: The aim was to identify the meaning of bed bath for the undergraduate nursing students as well as their feelings when performing it. Method: This is a descriptive study, with qualitative approach. The scenarios were a public hospital and a state university. The participants were 14 nursing students. Data was collected through a questionnaire and treated according to the Thematic Content Analysis. Results: Several meanings of the bed bath for the participants were identified, such as "care", "interpersonal relationship", "assessment of the general state", "privacy invasion" and "identification/fulfillment of human basic needs", provoking both positive and negative feelings/sensations. Conclusion: Bed bath needs to be done by trained personnel with a therapeutic approach through the use of sensitivity, avoiding a mechanistic practice and aiming wellness and faster recovery of the patient
Factors associated with drug use among adolescents
The study aimed to identify factors associated to drug use in adolescents. For this purpose, it has been observed 133 adolescents registred in ninth grade in two municipal schools in Viçosa, who answered an individual questionnaire validated by PAHO / WHO, applied by members of the Uncensored Extension Project of the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). Substance use and family structure were evaluated. Statistical tools were: Epi-Info 7.0 StatCalc, Pearson's chi-square test, Poisson regression and SPSS version 23.0 and Stata 9.0 programs. The sample had an average of 15 years old, that 26.3% reported drug use, thus, 65,4% related family history of drug use and low education. Other aspects of family structure included: good family perception, absence of violence and family mental disorder by 78.2%, 82.7% and 75.9% of adolescents, respectively. Only males persisted as a factor associated with drug use, with 2.4 times higher use (PR 2.39; 95% IC 1.19-4.78; p = 0.014). Therefore, only the male gender showed a higher risk for drug use, and further studies are needed to evaluate factors associated with drug use, aiming to promote public health
O USO DO BIM EM SISTEMAS MEP E SOLARES: PANORAMA DA PRODUÇÃO CIENTÍFICA RECENTE
Os problemas relacionados à sustentabilidade na construção civil podem ser vistos inicialmente pela ausência de um maior aproveitamento das informações inerentes de cada disciplina do projeto em uma edificação, afetando desde a etapa de execução com alterações de cronograma, custos e até escopo. Os sistemas conhecidos por complementares - mecânicos, elétricos e hidrossanitários (MEP) - compõem parte importante da obra, sendo foco de atenção por profissionais e empresas do setor de arquitetura, engenharia e construção (AEC). Assim também, a avaliação dos resultados energéticos a partir das características de envoltória da edificação, em especial a energia solar fotovoltaica é alvo de grande apelo à indústria da construção para melhores índices ligados à sustentabilidade. É sob este contexto, que esta pesquisa objetiva analisar o panorama da produção científica sobre a utilização da modelagem da informação da construção (do inglês BIM) em sistemas solares fotovoltaicos e sistemas elétricos, nos bancos de dados Science Direct, IEEE, Scopus e Web of Science. A pesquisa é considerada de natureza descritiva, com abordagem qualitativa, ao realizar técnicas de estudo por revisão sistemática. Os resultados permitiram entender a produção científica sobre o tema, com destaque à ordenação do processo BIM, as possibilidades e barreiras encontradas e a pouca abrangência direta ao tema com destaque ao Green-BIM e coordenação MEP
