Coupled ππ, KK¯ scattering in P-wave and the ρ resonance from lattice QCD
We determine elastic and coupled-channel amplitudes for isospin-1 meson-meson
scattering in -wave, by calculating correlation functions using lattice QCD
with light quark masses such that MeV in a cubic volume of . Variational analyses of large matrices of correlation
functions computed using operator constructions resembling ,
and , in several moving frames and several lattice
irreducible representations, leads to discrete energy spectra from which
scattering amplitudes are extracted. In the elastic scattering region
we obtain a detailed energy-dependence for the phase-shift, corresponding to a
resonance, and we extend the analysis into the coupled-channel
region for the first time, finding a small coupling between the
channels.We thank our colleagues within the Hadron Spectrum Collaboration, and in particular, thank B´alint Jo´o for his help. The software codes Chroma [43], QUDA [34, 35], QPhiX [44], and QOPQDP [32, 33] were used to compute the propagators required for this project. The contractions were performed on clusters at Jefferson Laboratory under the USQCD Initiative and the LQCD ARRA project. ππ →πγ∗ amplitude and the resonant ρ →πγ∗ transition from lattice QCD
We present a determination of the -wave
transition amplitude from lattice quantum chromodynamics. Matrix elements of
the vector current in a finite-volume are extracted from three-point
correlation functions, and from these we determine the infinite-volume
amplitude using a generalization of the Lellouch-L\"uscher formalism. We
determine the amplitude for a range of discrete values of the energy
and virtuality of the photon, and observe the expected dynamical enhancement
due to the resonance. Describing the energy dependence of the amplitude,
we are able to analytically continue into the complex energy plane and from the
residue at the pole extract the transition
form factor. This calculation, at MeV, is the first to
determine the form factor of an unstable hadron within a first principles

Dioxin-Induced Changes in Epididymal Sperm Count and Spermatogenesis
A single in utero exposure to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) on gestation day 15 decreased epididymal sperm count in adult rats and thus was used to establish a tolerable daily intake for TCDD. However, several laboratories have been unable to replicate these findings. Moreover, conflicting reports of TCDD effects on daily sperm production suggest that spermatogenesis may not be as sensitive to the adverse effects of TCDD as previously thought. We performed a PubMed search using relevant search terms linking dioxin exposure with adverse effects on reproduction and spermatogenesis. Developmental exposure to TCDD is consistently linked with decreased cauda epididymal sperm counts in animal studies, although at higher dose levels than those used in some earlier studies. However, the evidence linking in utero TCDD exposure and spermatogenesis is not convincing. Animal studies provide clear evidence of an adverse effect of in utero TCDD exposure on epididymal sperm count but do not support the conclusion that spermatogenesis is adversely affected. The mechanisms underlying decreased epididymal sperm count are unknown; however, we postulate that epididymal function is the key target for the adverse effects of TCDD.Uma única exposição in utero a 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) no 15º dia de gestação diminuiu a contagem de esperma epididimal em ratos adultos e por isso foi utilizada para estabelecer uma dosagem diária tolerável para TCDD. No entanto, diversos laboratórios não conseguiram reproduzir esses resultados. Além disso, relatórios conflitantes dos efeitos de TCDD na produção diária de esperma sugere que espermatogênese pode não ser tão sensível aos efeitos adversos do TCDD como antes se pensava. Foi feita uma pesquisa no PubMed usando termos de pesquisa relevantes, relacionados à exposição à dioxina com efeitos adversos na reprodução e na espermatogênese. Exposição em desenvolvimento ao TCDD é consistentemente relacionada à diminuição da contagem da cauda epididimal de esperma, mas não apoia a conclusão de que a espermatogênese é afetada. Os mecanismos por trás da diminuição da contagem de esperma epididimal são desconhecidos; no entanto, contestamos que a função epididimal é a chave para efeitos adversos do TCDD
Quark-mass dependence in decays
We study the quark-mass dependence of decays, based on a
dispersion-theoretical framework. We rely on the quark-mass-dependent
scattering phase shift for the pion-pion -wave extracted from unitarized
chiral perturbation theory. The dispersive representation then takes into
account the final-state rescattering among all three pions. The described
formalism may be used as an extrapolation tool for lattice QCD calculations of
three-pion decays, for which can serve as a paradigm case.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures; v2: added two references, version published in

Factors Affecting Infestation by Triatoma infestans in a Rural Area of the Humid Chaco in Argentina: A Multi-Model Inference Approach
Vector-borne transmission of Chagas disease remains a major public health problem in parts of Latin America. Triatoma infestans is the main vector in the countries located in the South American Cone, particularly in the Gran Chaco ecoregion where residual insecticide control has achieved only a moderate, irregular impact. To contribute to improved control strategies, we analyzed the factors associated with the presence and abundance of T. infestans in 327 inhabited houses in a well-defined rural area with no recent vector control interventions in the humid Argentine Chaco. Bugs were found mainly in domiciles, kitchens, storerooms, and chicken coops and nests, particularly where adequate refuge and animal hosts (humans, dogs, cats or poultry) were available. Domiciles constructed from mud were the most often infested, but brick-and-cement domiciles, even in good conditions, were also found infested. Availability of refuge and hosts for T. infestans are key targets for vector control. Ten-fold variations in domestic infestation observed across neighboring villages, and differences in the relevant factors for T. infestans presence with respect to other areas of the Gran Chaco region suggest that host management, building techniques and insecticide use need to be tailored to the local environment, socio-economic characteristics, and climatic conditions
B →Vℓ+ℓ− in the Standard Model from light-cone sum rules
We present , , , and
form factors from light-cone sum rules (LCSR) at
for twist-2 and 3 and for
twist-4 with updated hadronic input parameters. Three asymptotic light-cone
distribution amplitudes of twist- (and ) are determined, necessary for
the form factors to obey the equations of motion. It is argued that the latter
constrain the uncertainty of tensor-to-vector form factor ratios thereby
improving the prediction of zeros of helicity amplitudes of major importance
for angular observables. We provide easy-to-use fits to the
LCSR results, including the full error correlation matrix, in all modes at low
as well as combined fits to LCSR and lattice results covering the entire
kinematic range for , and . The error
correlation matrix avoids the problem of overestimating the uncertainty in
phenomenological applications. Using the new form factors and recent
computations of non-factorisable contributions we provide Standard Model
predictions for as well as and
at low dilepton invariant mass. Employing our form factor results we extract the CKM element
from the semileptonic decays and

A conceptual governance framework for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction integration
Climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) have similar targets and goals in relation to climate change and related risks. The integration of CCA in core DRR operations is crucial to provide simultaneous benefits for social systems coping with challenges posed by climate extremes and climate change. Although state actors are generally responsible for governing a public issue such as CCA and DRR integration, the reform of top-down governing modes in neoliberal societies has enlarged the range of potential actors to include non state actors from economic and social communities. These new intervening actors require in-depth investigation. To achieve this goal, the article investigates the set of actors and their bridging arrangements that create and shape governance in CCA and DRR integration. The article conducts a comprehensive literature review in order to retrieve main actors and arrangements. The article summarizes actors and arrangements into a conceptual governance framework that can be used as a backdrop for future research on the topic. However, this framework has an explorative form, which must be refined according to site- and context-specific variables, norms, or networks. Accordingly, this article promotes an initial application of the framework to different contexts. Scholars may adopt the framework as a roadmap with which to corroborate the existence of a theoretical and empirical body of knowledge on governance of CCA and DRR integration
A pair of tess planets spanning the radius valley around the nearby mid-m dwarf ltt 3780
We present the confirmation of two new planets transiting the nearby mid-M
dwarf LTT 3780 (TIC 36724087, TOI-732, , , =0.374 R, =0.401 M, d=22 pc). The two planet candidates are identified in a single TESS sector and are validated with reconnaissance spectroscopy, ground-based photometric follow-up, and high-resolution imaging. With measured orbital periods of days, days and sizes R, R, the two planets span the radius valley in period-radius space around low mass stars thus making the system a laboratory to test competing theories of the emergence of the radius valley in that stellar mass regime. By combining 63 precise radial-velocity measurements from HARPS and HARPS-N, we measure planet masses
of M and M, which indicates that LTT 3780b has a bulk composition consistent with being Earth-like, while LTT 3780c likely hosts an extended H/He envelope.
We show that the recovered planetary masses are consistent with predictions from both photoevaporation and from core-powered mass loss models. The brightness and small size of LTT 3780, along with the measured planetary parameters, render LTT 3780b and c as accessible targets for atmospheric characterization of planets within the same planetary system and spanning the radius valley
Traditional medicinal plant use in Northern Peru: tracking two thousand years of healing culture
This paper examines the traditional use of medicinal plants in Northern Peru, with special focus on the Departments of Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Cajamarca, and San Martin. Northern Peru represents the center of the old Central Andean "Health Axis," stretching from Ecuador to Bolivia. The roots of traditional healing practices in this region go at least as far back as the Moche period (AC 100–800). Although about 50% of the plants in use reported in the colonial period have disappeared from the popular pharmacopoeia, the plant knowledge of the population is much more extensive than in other parts of the Andean region. 510 plant species used for medicinal purposes were collected, identified and their vernacular names, traditional uses and applications recorded. The families best represented were Asteraceae with 69 species, Fabaceae (35), Lamiaceae (25), and Solanaceae (21). Euphorbiaceae had twelve species, and Apiaceae and Poaceae 11 species. The highest number of species was used for the treatment of "magical/ritual" ailments (207 species), followed by respiratory disorders (95), problems of the urinary tract (85), infections of female organs (66), liver ailments (61), inflammations (59), stomach problems (51) and rheumatism (45). Most of the plants used (83%) were native to Peru. Fresh plants, often collected wild, were used in two thirds of all cases, and the most common applications included the ingestion of herb decoctions or the application of plant material as poultices
