A hybrid approach for the treatment of persistent sciatic artery aneurysms

Persistent sciatic arteries are a rare but clinically significant vascular etiology of lower extremity arterial aneurysms leading to distal embolization and limb ischemia. We present the case of a 60-year-old man with a symptomatic persistent left sciatic artery aneurysm with a hypoplastic superficial femoral artery who was successfully treated with a hybrid open and endovascular technique. This consisted of a surgical bypass from the common femoral artery to the above-knee popliteal artery with prosthetic graft combined with retrograde endovascular embolization of the sciatic artery aneurysm
