    Measurement of \cal{B}(D^+ --> mu^+ nu) and the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+f_{D^+}

    Full text link
    In 60 pb-1 of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector, we find 8 D+ to mu+ nu event candidates that are mostly signal, containing only 1 estimated background. Using this statistically compelling sample, we measure preliminary values of B(D+ to mu+ nu) = (3.5 +- 1.4 +- 0.6)*10^{-4}, and determine f_{D+} =(201+- 41+- 17) MeV.Comment: 17 pages postscript, also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CONF/2004/, Presented at ICHEP Aug 16-22,2004, Beijing, Chin

    Update of the measurement of the cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons

    Full text link
    We have updated our measurement of the cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons, our publication "Measurement of sigma(e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons) at E_{c.m.} = 3773 MeV", arXiv:hep-ex/0512038, Phys.Rev.Lett.96, 092002 (2006). Simultaneous with this arXiv update, we have published an erratum in Phys.Rev.Lett.104, 159901 (2010). There, and in this update, we have corrected a mistake in the computation of the error on the difference of the cross sections for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons and e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> DDbar. We have also used a more recent CLEO measurement of cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> DDbar. From this, we obtain an upper limit on the branching fraction for psi(3770) -> non-DDbar of 9% at 90% confidence level.Comment: 3 pages, 0 figures. This is an erratum to Phys.Rev.Lett.96:092002,2006. Full text link
    From electron-positron collision data collected with the CLEO detector operating at CESR near \sqrt{s}=10.6 GeV, improved measurements of the branching fractions for tau decays into three explicitly identified hadrons and a neutrino are presented as {\cal B}(\tau^-\to\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-\nu_\tau)=(9.13\pm0.05\pm0.46)%, {\cal B}(\tau^-\to K^-\pi^+\pi^-\nu_\tau)=(3.84\pm0.14\pm0.38)\times10^{-3}, {\cal B}(\tau^-\to K^-K^+\pi^-\nu_\tau)=(1.55\pm0.06\pm0.09)\times10^{-3}, and {\cal B}(\tau^-\to K^-K^+K^-\nu_\tau)<3.7\times10^{-5} at 90% C.L., where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.Comment: 10 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, to appear in Phys. New Measurements of Upsilon(1S) Decays to Charmonium Final States

    Full text link
    Using substantially larger data samples collected by the CLEO III detector, we report on new measurements of the decays of Upsilon(1S) to charmonium final states, including J/Psi, psi(2S), and chi_cJ. The latter two are first observations of these decays. We measure the branching fractions as follows: B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=(6.4+-0.4+-0.6)x10^-4, B(Y(1S)--> psi(2S)+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.41+-0.11+-0.08, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c1+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.35+-0.08+-0.06, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c2+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.52+-0.12+-0.09, and B(Y(1S)--> chi_c0+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)<7.4% at 90% confidence level. We also report on the momentum and angular spectra of J/Psi's in Upsilon(1S) decay. The results are compared to predictions of the color octet and color singlet models.Comment: 27 pages postscript,also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/, submitted to PR

    The Search for eta(1440) --> K^0_S K^pm \pi^mp in Two-Photon Fusion at CLEO

    Full text link
    We analyze 13.8 \rm fb^{-1} of the integrated e^+e^- luminosity collected at 10.6 GeV center-of-mass energy with the CLEO II and CLEO II.V detectors to study exclusive two-photon production of hadrons with masses below 1.7{\rm \ GeV/c^2} decaying into the K^0_S K^\pm \pi^\mp final state. We observe two statistically significant enhancements in the \eta(1440) mass region. These enhancements have large transverse momentum which rules them out as being due to pseudoscalar resonances but is consistent with the production of axial-vector mesons. We use tagged two-photon events to study the properties of the observed enhancements and associate them with the production of f_1(1285) and f_1(1420). Our non-observation of \eta(1440) is inconsistent by more than two standard deviations with the first observation of this resonance in two-photon collisions by the L3 experiment. We present our estimates for 90% confidence level upper limits on the products of two-photon partial widths of pseudoscalar hadrons and their branching fractions into K^0_S(\pi^+\pi^-)K^\pm\pi^\mp.Comment: 24 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2004/, submitted to PR

    Measurement of Absolute Hadronic Branching Fractions of D Mesons and e^+e^- --> D barD Cross Sections at E_cm = 3773 MeV

    Full text link
    Using 55.8 pb^-1 of e^+e^- collisions recorded at the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at CESR, we determine absolute hadronic branching fractions of charged and neutral D mesons using a double tag technique. Among measurements for three D^0 and six D^+ modes, we obtain reference branching fractions B(D^0 -> K^- pi^+)=(3.91 +- 0.08 +- 0.09)% and B(D^+ -> K^- pi^+ pi^+)=(9.5 +- 0.2 +- 0.3)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Final state radiation is included in these branching fractions by allowing for additional, unobserved, photons in the final state. Using a determination of the integrated luminosity, we also extract the cross sections sigma(e^+e^- -> D^0 \bar D^0)=(3.60 +- 0.07 +0.07-0.05) nb and sigma(e^+e^- -> D^+D^-)=(2.79 +- 0.07 +0.10-0.04) nb.Comment: 9 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, submitted to PR

    Get PDF
    With the first data sample collected by the CLEO-c detector at the psi(3770) resonance we have studied four exclusive semileptonic decays of the D0 meson. Our results include the first observation and absolute branching fraction measurement for D0 --> rho- e+ nu_e and improved measurements of the absolute branching fractions for D0 decays to K- e+ nu_e, pi- e+ nu_e, and K*- e+ nu_e.Comment: 9 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, submitted to PR

    Study of the q^2-Dependence of B --> pi ell nu and B --> rho(omega)ell nu Decay and Extraction of |V_ub|

    Full text link
    We report on determinations of |Vub| resulting from studies of the branching fraction and q^2 distributions in exclusive semileptonic B decays that proceed via the b->u transition. Our data set consists of the 9.7x10^6 BBbar meson pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector. We measure B(B0 -> pi- l+ nu) = (1.33 +- 0.18 +- 0.11 +- 0.01 +- 0.07)x10^{-4} and B(B0 -> rho- l+ nu) = (2.17 +- 0.34 +0.47/-0.54 +- 0.41 +- 0.01)x10^{-4}, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the signal, and systematic due to residual form-factor uncertainties in the cross-feed modes, respectively. We also find B(B+ -> eta l+ nu) = (0.84 +- 0.31 +- 0.16 +- 0.09)x10^{-4}, consistent with what is expected from the B -> pi l nu mode and quark model symmetries. We extract |Vub| using Light-Cone Sum Rules (LCSR) for 0<= q^2<16 GeV^2 and Lattice QCD (LQCD) for 16 GeV^2 <= q^2 < q^2_max. Combining both intervals yields |Vub| = (3.24 +- 0.22 +- 0.13 +0.55/-0.39 +- 0.09)x10^{-3}$ for pi l nu, and |Vub| = (3.00 +- 0.21 +0.29/-0.35 +0.49/-0.38 +-0.28)x10^{-3} for rho l nu, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, theoretical, and signal form-factor shape, respectively. Our combined value from both decay modes is |Vub| = (3.17 +- 0.17 +0.16/-0.17 +0.53/-0.39 +-0.03)x10^{-3}.Comment: 45 pages postscript, also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS, submitted to PR

    Measurement of Interference between Electromagnetic and Strong Amplitudes in psi(2S) Decays to Two Pseudoscalar Mesons

    Full text link
    Using a sample of 3.08 million psi(2S) decays collected at sqrt{s} = 3.686 GeV with the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured the branching fractions for psi(2S) decays to pseudoscalar pairs pi+pi-, K+K-, and KsKl. We obtain B(psi(2S) -> pi+pi-) < 2.1 x 10^{-5} (90% C.L.), B(psi(2S) -> K+K-) = (6.3 +- 0.6(stat) +- 0.3(syst)) x 10^{-5}, and B(psi(2S) -> KsKl) = (5.8 +- 0.8(stat) +- 0.4(syst)) x 10^{-5}. The branching fractions allow extraction of the relative phase Delta = (95 +- 15) degrees and strength ratio R = (2.5 +- 0.4) of the three-gluon and one-photon amplitudes for these modes.Comment: 8 pages postscript,also available through this http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, Submitted to PR
