    Tennis Tournament in Indianapolis

    No full text
The negative was not accompanied by any identification but it appears to be a tennis tournament. A group of people are standing on the tennis court, players are holding tennis rackets and some others appear to be officials. One player is holding a trophy. There are also people on the sidelines watching the event. The only clue can be found on a tag worn by a young girl on the far right displaying the initials C.I.T.A. This stands for the Central Indiana Tennis Association and the event was probably one of their tournaments. The group was founded in 1940 and is still in existence. The clothing style of the women in the image dates this event to ca. 1940.The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990. This digital image was created from that copy. The copy prints and negatives are stored in Microfiche Number order
