Compact Yb+^+ optical atomic clock project: design principle and current status

We present the design of a compact optical clock based on the $^2S_{1/2} \rightarrow ^2D_{3/2}$ 435.5 nm transition in $^{171}$Yb$^+$. The ion trap will be based on a micro-fabricated circuit, with surface electrodes generating a trapping potential to localize a single Yb ion a few hundred $\mu$m from the electrodes. We present our trap design as well as simulations of the resulting trapping pseudo-potential. We also present a compact, multi-channel wavelength meter that will permit the frequency stabilization of the cooling, repumping and clear-out lasers at 369.5 nm, 935.2 nm and 638.6 nm needed to cool the ion. We use this wavelength meter to characterize and stabilize the frequency of extended cavity diode lasers at 369.5 nm and 638.6 nm.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. Foliar uptake of atmospheric nitrate by two dominant subalpine plants: insights from in situ triple-isotope analysis

Soper in the same issue/journalInternational audienceThe significance of foliar uptake of nitrogen (N) compounds in natural conditions is not well understood, despite growing evidence of its importance to plant nutrition. In subalpine meadows, N-limitation fosters the dominance of specific subalpine plant species, which in turn ensure the provision of essential ecosystems services. Understanding how these plants absorb N and from which sources is important to predict ecological consequences of increasing N deposition.• Here, we investigate the sources of N to plants from subalpine meadows with distinct landuse history in the French Alps, using the triple isotopes (Δ17O, δ18O, and δ15N) of plant tissue nitrate (NO3-). We use this approach to evaluate the significance of foliar uptake ofatmospheric NO3- (NO3-atm).• The foliar uptake of NO3-atm accounted for 4-16 % of the leaf NO3- content, and contributed more to the leaf NO3- pool after peak biomass. Additionally, the gradual 15N enrichment of NO3- from the soil to the leaves reflected the contribution of NO3-atm assimilation to plants’metabolism.• The present study confirms that foliar uptake is a potentially important pathway for NO3-atm into subalpine plants. This is of major significance as N emissions (and deposition) are predicted to increase globally in the future

International audienceOptical atomic clocks are the world's most accurateinstruments. Even though they are still voluminous instruments, there is a needfor on-field measurements campaigns. I will first give a brief state-of-the-artof optical atomic clocks, and then review existing approaches towards therealization of transportable atomic clocks. Characterizing the Content Related to Oral Health Education on TikTok

International audienceNeglecting oral hygiene in adolescents negatively affects dental caries and periodontal diseases, in addition to social and emotional well-being. Thus, the TikTok platform (ByteDance, Beijing, China)as a social media could be a powerful channel to provide health-related information and educational content. This study aims to assess the quality of the TikTok videos corresponding to #oralhealtheducation. Sixty-nine videos were identified. Three oral health professionals (OHP), three health education professionals (HEP), and ten of TikTok’s target audience watched and evaluated the videos from a qualitative questionnaire. OHP detected false or incorrect information in 11.6% (8/69) of the videos. At least two HEPs reported being unable to detect this type of content or whether the video met dental ethics standards in both the videos. Disagreement was observed among the professionals themselves. The evaluation indicated that TikTok’s target audience was satisfied with the products viewed with an average score of >2.5, unlike the professionals, whose average score was <2.5 on a scale of 0 to 5. Users are advised to think critically and to consider the content of TikTok oral health videos with caution. The involvement of health professionals in the writing and validation of the videos could be an added value to positively respond to the needs of the adolescents

Radioimmunoconjugates for treating cancer: recent advances and current opportunities

International audienceIntroduction: Radioimmunoconjugates have been used for 30 years to diagnose and treat cancer. For many years, the use of these therapeutic tools has been limited to haematological disorders, such as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, given that they have only had a moderate effect on solid tumours. Areas covered: Recently, several strategies have revived the potential therapeutic application for radioimmunoconjugates. In this review, the authors review the advances in immunological engineering to develop new tools like monoclonal antibodies and their derivatives. Then, the authors summarize the development of radionuclides, the use of recombinant antibodies, pretargeting approaches, and dose fractionation techniques, providing opportunities for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Expert opinion: Radioimmunoconjugates used in nuclear medicine have entered a new era of development. These advances give rise to a variety of opportunities in the management of various cancers, where the radiolabelled antibodies may be particularly useful in immuno-specific phenotypic imaging e.g. companion diagnostics. Concerning therapeutic applications, radioimmunoconjugates have demonstrated their efficacy in the treatment of both haematological malignancies and solid tumours. Recent procedural developments are of great interest in optimising oncological targeted therapies. In the field of cancer theranostics, we believe that radioimmunoconjugated compounds are likely to play a large part in near future. ARTICLE HISTOR
