Abstract

Background

Child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP), a subspecialty of psychiatry in Japan, is facing a serious workforce shortage. To resolve this situation, the Japanese government has organized a task force and has been working to increase psychiatrists' clinical skills to improve care for children and adolescents with mental health problems. Using an online questionnaire system, the authors have conducted a survey to investigate the perceptions, experiences, and interests of early-career psychiatrists in CAP.

Methods

The subjects of this study were 182 psychiatrists in Japan whose individual clinical experiences did not exceed 15 years. The authors of this study created an online questionnaire system and e-mailed the URL and login password to all subjects. Respondents anonymously answered the questions. Most questions required an answer indicating a level of agreement scored on a nine-point scale. Responding to the questionnaire was considered to constitute consent, and all respondents' privacy was carefully protected.

Results

The mean age and clinical psychiatric experience of the subjects were found to be 33.1 Β± 4.5 years and 5.43 Β± 3.5 years, respectively. On a nine-point scale (with nine being the highest), experience and interest in CAP measured 3.05 Β± 1.9 and 5.34 Β± 2.5, respectively; further, these two factors showed significant correlation (r = 0.437, p < 0.0001). The mean score for the early-career psychiatrists' confidence in their ability to diagnose and appropriately treat was notably low, at 3.13 Β± 1.9.

Conclusion

Our results demonstrated that early-career psychiatrists self-evaluated their CAP clinical experience as insufficient, and these clinicians' CAP experiences and interests correlated significantly. Therefore, in order to improve child and adolescent medical care, we need to expose young psychiatrists to sufficient CAP cases and explore the factors that could attract them to this field.</p

Improved technology elements of table carrot cultivation in the Volgograd region

During the period of field research to find ways to improve the elements of table carrot cultivation technology, we proposed a comprehensive resource-saving technology for the cultivation of carrot root crops on drip irrigation in the Lower Volga region. A hypothesis was put forward to increase the productivity and quality of table carrots through the use of new generation biological products and fertigation of crops using drip irrigation. The research program included a comparative assessment of the zoned table carrot variety Shantane (control) and promising Red Core and Santa Cruz hybrids, which belong to the same early maturity group. For this, mineral fertilizers were calculated in doses for the planned yields of 90, 110, and 130 t/ha, using drip irrigation. Biological preparations Agriful (concentration 3 and 4 l/ha) and Fertigrain Foliar (concentration 1.3 l/ha) were used, in addition, to their complex use together with mineral fertilizers

Exploiting Space and Location as a Design Framework for Interactive Mobile Systems

This article considers the importance of context in mobile systems. It considers a range of context-related issues and focus on location as a key issue for mobile systems. A design framework is described consisting of taxonomies of location, mobility, population, and device awareness. The design framework informs the construction of a semantic model of space for mobile systems. The semantic model is reflected in a computational model built on a distributed platform that allows contextual information to be shared across a number of mobile devices. The framework supports the design of interactive mobile systems while the platform supports their rapid development

Spectral-luminescent properties of derivatives of squaraine probes at interaction with the isolated rat liver cells

Aim. To find out approaches for studying cellular functional state using new fluorescent squaraine probes. Methods. Dependence of fluorescence parameters of squaraine and polymethine dyes on the properties of their microenvironment in biomembranes was studied by microspectrofluorimetry. The quantitative microfluorimetry of single cells was applied for the evaluation of probes accumulation in cells and for investigation of dynamics of dyes photobleaching. Results. The data obtained evidence that a chromophoric part of the squaraine dyes molecules is mainly localized in a more polar microenvironment in biomembranes, as compared to the cationic polymethine probes. Conclusions. Chromophore of anionic squaraine probe in native membranes is located in the upper membrane layer in the region of polar phospholipids heads, while the cationic probes can penetrate deeper into the membrane. The anionic squaraine probe SqSC4 was determined as the most photostable dye among the investigated probes

People versus information: The evolution of mobile technology

Abstract. This reports research on users ’ attitudes towards and use of GSM devices and discusses the implications these have for the future evolution of hand-held devices. It argues that current usage patterns suggest that there is unlikely to be a widespread convergence of information accessing devices and person to person communication devices. It also argues that the latter devices and their associated applications could provide much richer opportunities for communication behaviours than is currently available, and that therefore design efforts within the mobile HCI community should focus on this rather than on information use applications
