On the correction of anomalous phase oscillation in entanglement witnesses using quantum neural networks
Entanglement of a quantum system depends upon relative phase in complicated
ways, which no single measurement can reflect. Because of this, entanglement
witnesses are necessarily limited in applicability and/or utility. We propose
here a solution to the problem using quantum neural networks. A quantum system
contains the information of its entanglement; thus, if we are clever, we can
extract that information efficiently. As proof of concept, we show how this can
be done for the case of pure states of a two-qubit system, using an
entanglement indicator corrected for the anomalous phase oscillation. Both the
entanglement indicator and the phase correction are calculated by the quantum
system itself acting as a neural network
Non-musical sound branding – a conceptualization and research overview
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to advance the understanding of sound branding by developing a new conceptual framework and providing an overview of the research literature on non-musical sound.
Design/methodology/approach
Using four mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive types of non-musical sound, the paper assesses and synthesizes 99 significant studies across various scholarly fields.
Findings
The overview reveals two areas in which more research may be warranted, that is, non-musical atmospherics and non-musical sonic logos. Moreover, future sound-branding research should examine in further detail the potentials of developed versus annexed object sounds, and mediated versus unmediated brand sounds.
Research limitations/implications
The paper provides important insights into critical issues that suggest directions for further research on non-musical sound branding.
Practical implications
The paper identifies an unexploited terrain of possibilities for the use of sound in marketing and branding.
Originality/value
The paper identifies a subfield within sound-branding research that has received little attention despite its inevitability and potential significance.

Enhanced DCP filter for Real-World Hazy Scenes
Haze is an atmospheric phenomenon that considerably degrades the visibility of out- door scenes. This happens due to atmosphere particles that absorb and disperse the sunshine. This paper introduces a unique single image visibility restoration algorithm that enhances visibility of such corrupted pictures. A unique edge-preserving decomposition-based technique is prepared to estimate transmission map for a haze image. Therefore, haze removal algorithmic rule has been taken from Koschmiedars law that includes a quick replacement-variation approach to dehaze and denoise at the same time. The proposed technique Enhanced DCP Filter (EDCPF) initially estimates a transmission map employing a windows adaptive technique that supported the dark channel. Restoration of foggy images is an important issue for the de-weathering in computer vision. A new method has been introduced for estimating the optical transmission in hazy scenes. Based on this estimation, the scattered light is eliminated to increase scene visibility and recover haze-free scenes
Seasonal Movements, Migratory Behavior, and Site Fidelity of West Indian Manatees along the Atlantic Coast of the United States as Determined by Radio-telemetry
The study area encompassed the eastern coasts of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina,
including inland waterways such as the St. Johns River (Fig. 1). Manatees inhabited the
relatively narrow band of water that lies between the barrier beaches and the mainland,
occasionally venturing into the ocean close to shore. Between Miami and Fernandina Beach,
Florida, 19 inlets provided manatees with corridors between the intracoastal waters and the
Atlantic Ocean; the distance between adjacent inlets averaged 32 km(SD = 24 km) and varied
from 3 to 88 km. Habitats used by manatees along this 900-km stretch ofcoastline varied
widely and included estuaries, lagoons, rivers and creeks, shallow bays and sounds, and ocean
inlets. Salinities in most areas were brackish, but ranged from completely fresh to completely
marine. The predominant communities of aquatic vegetation also varied geographically and
with salinity: seagrass meadows and mangrove swamps in brackish and marine waters along the
southern half of peninsular Florida; salt marshes in northeastern Florida and Georgia; benthic
macroalgae in estuarine and marine habitats; and a variety of submerged, floating, and emergent
vegetation in freshwater rivers, canals, and streams throughout the region.
Radio-telemetry has been used successfully to track manatees in other regions ofFlorida
(Bengtson 1981, Powell and Rathbun 1984, Lefebvre and Frohlich 1986, Rathbun et al. 1990)
and Georgia (Zoodsma 1991), but these early studies relied primarily on conventional VHF (very
high frequency) transmitters and were limited in their spatial and temporal scope (see O'Shea
and Kochman 1990 for overview). Typically, manatees were tagged at a thermal refuge in the
winter and then tracked until the tag detached, usually sometime between the spring and fall of
the same year. Our study differs from previous research on manatee movements in several
important respects. First, we relied heavily on data from satellite-monitored transmitters using
the Argos system, which yielded a substantially greater number of locations and more systematic
collection of data compared to previous VHF tracking studies (Deutsch et al. 1998). Second, our
tagging and tracking efforts encompassed the entire range of manatees along the Atlantic coast,
from the Florida Keys to South Carolina, so inferences were not limited to a small geographic
area. Third, we often used freshwater to lure manatees to capture sites, which allowed tagging
in all months of the year; this provided more information about summer movement patterns than
had previous studies which emphasized capture and tracking at winter aggregations. Finally, the
study spanned a decade, and success in retagging animals and in replacing transmitters allowed
long-term tracking ofmany individuals. This provided the opportunity to investigate variation in
seasonal movements, migratory behavior, and site fidelity across years for individual manatees.

Ecosystem Studies at Cedar Creek Natural History Area, III: Water Use Studies
Previous articles in this series (Lawrence et al. 1957-58, 1960) have dealt with the nature of ecosystems, history of the ecosystem analysis approach, and some of the objectives and the methods that have been used at the Cedar Creek Natural History Area of the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Academy of Science. The area, which was acquired in large part through a generous grant from the Fleischmann Foundation, is located in Anoka and Isanti Counties in east central Minnesota. The work has been generously supported by the Hill Family Foundation since the early summer of 1957.
One main objective has been to learn what becomes of the solar energy striking the landscape. It has been estimated from studies elsewhere that a rather large portion, probably over half of the energy which strikes a given level area, is expended in evaporation from non-living surfaces of open water and moist soil, and in transpiration from living plant surfaces. The combined vaporization is called evapotranspiration. The Cedar Creek area is especially well suited for studying these water losses, or uses as we shall consider them here, because such a large variety of surfaces occur in close proximity to one another, and because water surface is exposer in ponds and the water table is usually at the surface or within a few inches of the surface in willow, alder, and tamarack swamps
Data criticality
The data moment, we argue, is not a single event, but a multiplicity of encounters that reveal what we call ‘data criticality’. Data criticality draws our attention to those moments of deciding whether and how data will exist, thus rendering data critically relevant to a societal context and imbuing data with ‘liveliness’ and agency. These encounters, we argue, also require our critical engagement. First, we develop and theorize our argument about data criticality. Second, by using predictive policing as an example, we present six moments of data criticality. A description of how data is imagined, generated, stored, selected, processed, and reused invites our reflections about data criticality within a broader range of data practices
Sow body condition at weaning and reproduction performance in organic piglet production
The objective was to investigate the variation in backfat at weaning and its relations to reproduction results in organic sow herds in Denmark. The study included eight herds and 573 sows. The average backfat at weaning mean�13 mm; SD�4.2 mm) ranging from 10.5 to 17.3 mm among herds shows that it is possible to avoid poor body condition at weaning even with a lactation length of seven weeks or more. No main effect of backfat at weaning on reproduction performance was found, but the probability of a successful reproduction after weaning tended to decrease with decreasing backfat for first parity sows, whereas the opposite was the case for multiparous sows
