Derrida's 'The Purveyor of Truth' and constitutional reading

In this article the author explores Jacques Derrida’s reading in ‘The Purveyor of Truth’ of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Purloined Letter’. In his essay, Derrida proposes a reading which differs markedly from the interpretation proposed by Lacan in his Seminar on ‘The Purloined Letter’. To appreciate Derrida’s reading, which is not hermeneutic-semantic in nature like that of Lacan, it is necessary to look at the relation of Derrida’s essay to his other texts on psychoanalysis, more specifically insofar as the Freudian death drive is concerned. The present article explores this ‘notion’ as elaborated on by Freud in Beyond the Pleasure Principle as well as Derrida’s reading of this text. It also investigates the importance of the ‘notion’ of the death drive as well as the significance of Derrida’s reading of The Purloined Letter for constitutional interpretation

Detection chain and electronic readout of the QUBIC instrument

The Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) Technical Demonstrator (TD) aiming to shows the feasibility of the combination of interferometry and bolometric detection. The electronic readout system is based on an array of 128 NbSi Transition Edge Sensors cooled at 350mK readout with 128 SQUIDs at 1K controlled and amplified by an Application Specific Integrated Circuit at 40K. This readout design allows a 128:1 Time Domain Multiplexing. We report the design and the performance of the detection chain in this paper. The technological demonstrator unwent a campaign of test in the lab. Evaluation of the QUBIC bolometers and readout electronics includes the measurement of I-V curves, time constant and the Noise Equivalent Power. Currently the mean Noise Equivalent Power is ~ 2 x 10⁻¹⁶ W/√Hz

Marie Bonaparte, Sigmund Freud Correspondance intégrale 1925-1939

Cette rencontre sera « le plus grand événement de ma vie », note l’arrière-petite-nièce de Napoléon Ier, princesse de Grèce et de Danemark. Durant quatorze années, ils échangeront près de neuf cents lettres jusqu’à la mort du fondateur de la psychanalyse, en 1939. Conservé à la bibliothèque du Congrès à Washington, cet ensemble de lettres est le dernier grand corpus de correspondance freudienne encore inédit. Passionnante de bout en bout, foisonnant d’informations sur l’introduction de la psychanalyse en France, cette correspondance raconte un monde appelé à disparaître au cœur duquel deux protagonistes des plus étonnants évoluent. Car entre la princesse venue pour soigner sa dépression et l’un des savants les plus influents de son siècle, une amitié naît, qui dépasse bientôt le cadre de l’analyse. Leurs échanges donnent à voir un Freud tour à tour séduit, amusé, parfois lassé de cette patiente qui n’a de cesse de vouloir vivre pleinement sa vie amoureuse et questionne les conceptions freudiennes sur la femme à une époque où la quête du plaisir féminin reste profondément subversive. « La dernière des Bonaparte », comme elle aimait à se qualifier, loin d’être la disciple dévote que l’on a parfois décrite, témoigne au fil des pages d’une liberté de pensée audacieuse. Quels que soient leurs désaccords, Freud verra en elle une élève loyale. De fait, elle ne le trahira jamais et mettra sa fortune au service de la Société psychanalytique de Paris (SPP), qu’elle contribua à créer et, avec l’aide de nombreux soutiens, se portera à son secours pour l’aider à quitter l’Autriche nazie en 1938
