Integrity testing of brush seal in shroud ring of T-700 engine
A split-ring brush seal was fabricated, installed between two labyrinth-honeycomb shroud seals, and tested in the fourth-stage turbine of a T-700 engine. The annealed Haynes 25 bristles rubbed directly against the nonconditioned, irregular Rene 80 turbine blade shroud surface. A total of 30 hr of cyclic and steady-state data were taken with surface speeds to 335 m/s (1100 ft/s) and shroud temperatures to 620 C (1150 F). Wear appeared to be rapid initially, with an orange flash of hot brush fragments during the first engine startup, to minimal after 10 hr of operation. The brush survived the testing but experienced some bristle pullouts and severe bristle wear; some turbine interface wear and possible material transfer was noted. Future design concerns center on tribological behavior at the interface with or without lubricants
Monitorowanie stężenia pirymetaminy w surowicy krwi u niemowląt z wrodzonym zarażeniem Toxoplasma gondii – obserwacje własne
The study objective was to determine plasma concentration of pyrimethamine in 24 infants aged 1–5 months, treated for congenital toxoplasmosis. Pyrimethamine was used in a single daily dose at an amount of 0.35–0.98 mg/kg daily, with sulfadiazine (50–100 mg/kg/day) in divided doses 2–3 times a day, and folinic acid given twice a week (7.5 mg). This regimen was continued for 2–6 months, then Fansidar® was administered. Pyrimethamine concentration in plasma was measured using high-performance liquid chromatography method (HPLC). A total of 70 tests were performed. Concentration of pyrimethamine ranged from 0.01 to 1.2 μg/ml. In 14 children (58 tests) the concentration of pyrimethamine achieved therapeutic value. In 7 patients (8 tests) the concentration was below therapeutic level, and in 3 patients (4 tests) above therapeutic level. In 11/24 (46%) children transient moderate neutropenia was observed. Modification of therapy was necessary in 12 patients. Monitoring of pyrimethamine concentration in plasma improves safety and effectiveness of the therapy and is useful in obtaining correct individual dose of the drug. Neutropenia is the most common side-effect of pyrimethamine observed even when using the recommended dose

Coexistence of Toxoplasma gondii and Cytomegalovirus infections in infants
Coexistence of Toxoplasma gondii and Cytomegalovirus infection in 3 dystrophic newborns is discussed. Also the not very characteristic course of the infection is stressed

Longitudinal study of children with passively acquired antitoxoplasma antibodies
A group of 20 children born to mothers, suspected of active toxoplasma infection during gestation, was analysed. Multispecialistic examinations carried out in children for the period of 2-3 years have shown that the specific antibodies were acquired transplacentally. This enabled to exclude an active infectious process in children
