This research aims to define the concept of modernity, and the most prominent features of modernist methodology in dealing with heritage and the history, including religion and culture, and to reveal briefly the history of the emergence of modernism , then to show the most prominent foundations of modernism from which all modernist theories and ideas were launched. The research also showed that the basis of the problem of modernism is the animosity between scientists of empirical science and the church through the church’s domination of its myths over scientists. The study concluded that the basis of modernism was built on maximising the human mind and starting from it on the basis that it is the criterion of absolute truth, and that man is the only source for acquiring knowledge through research and experiment, without the need , they claim, for any external source such as the divine religion, as well it stems from the sanctification of science and it separates of religion from the areas of lif

Combining TDoA and AoA with a particle filter in an outdoor LoRaWAN network

Internet of Things (IoT) applications that value long battery lifetime over accurate location-based services benefit from localization via Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) such as LoRaWAN. Recent work on Angle Of Arrival (AoA) estimation with LoRa enables us to explore new optimizations that decrease the estimation error and increase the reliability of Time Difference Of Arrival (TDoA) methods. In this paper, particle filtering is applied to combine TDoA and AoA measurements that were collected in a dense urban environment. The performance of this particle filter is compared to a TDoA estimator and our previous grid-based combination. The results show that a median estimation error of 199 m can be obtained with a particle filter without AoA, which is an error reduction of 10 % compared to the grid-based method. Moreover, the median error is reduced with 57 % if AoA measurements are used. Hence, more accurate and reliable localization is achieved compared to the performance of other baseline methods

Background: Later years of life are accompanied by many physical, emotional and environmental changes which may impact on the well-being of the individual. Many factors are known to influence the subjectivewell-being of older adults, but most, if not all of this information was the result of studies in the Western world. This study aimed at obtaining and documenting the predictors of subjective well-being (SWB) among older Ghanaians. Methods: Data for the study was obtained from the WHO SAGE study. The single item measure of life satisfaction was used to determine subjective wellbeing. Descriptive statistics as well as logistic regression analysis were carried out to determine the predictors of SWB.Results: A total of 4724 individuals aged 50 years and above responded to the questionnaires. Of these 50.4% were males. Following multivariate logistic regression analysis, age, sex, educational level, income and ethnicbackground were found to significantly affect the SWB of older Ghanaians. Being male was associated with higher level of SWB (OR=1.68; CI: 1.39 – 2.03). For those 50 years and above, being younger (50-59 years) was also associated with a high level of SWB (OR=17.72; CI: 10.13-30.98). Earning a low income and having low educational level were both associatedwith low levels of SWB (OR=0.304; CI: 0.22-0.42; and OR=0.47; CI: 0.37-0.60 respectively). Ewes (p=0.027), Grumas (p=0.002) and  Mole-Dagbons (p=0.04) had significantly higher SWB compared to the other ethnic groups. Conclusion: Among older Ghanaians, factors that positively influence SWB are younger age, male sex, high educational level and high income. Keywords: Subjective well-being, Life satisfaction, Older Ghanaians, SAGE study, Predictor

The impact of the shareholders\u27 rights on the revenues of the banking services: A case study from the Iraqi private commercial banks

The research aimed to measure the type and direction of the relationship between the shareholders \u27 rights and the revenues of the banking services for a sample of Iraqi private commercial banks, which were selected in the style of the cluster sample. The two selected banks were: the Iraqi Islamic Bank for Investment and Development, and the Kurdistan International Bank for Investment and Development. After accomplishing the process of the quantitative analysis for the data of the two banks, the null hypothesis was accepted. This shows the absence of the relationship between the total shareholders\u27 rights and revenues of banking services. The researcher has also come up with the conclusion that the Iraqi banking sector suffers from imbalances in the structure of funding, as the Central Bank of Iraq has imposed on the banks to increase their capital continuously in a manner that does not reflect their normal development, in addition to the failure of the bank to withhold the profits during the period under investigation and for unknown reasons. This was confronted by a recommendation that the Central Bank of Iraq should determine the rates of increase in the capital of Iraqi banks based on the results of their work and refrain from pursuing the current approach of imposing a random and previously assigned increase on all banks

A Metric for Anonymity based on Subjective Logic

    No full text
Anonymity metrics have been proposed to evaluate anonymity preserving systems by estimating the amount of information displayed by these systems due to vulnerabilities. A general metric for anonymity that assess the latter systems according to the mass and quality of information learned by an attacker or a collaboration of attackers is proposed here. The proposed metric is based on subjective logic, a generalization of evidence and probability theory. As a consequence, we proved based on defined scenarios that our metric provide a better interpretation of uncertainty in the measure and it is extended to combine various sources of information using subjective logic operators. Also, we demonstrate that two factors: trust between collaborating attackers and time can influence significantly the metric result when taking them into consideration
